Production Begins on Season 2 of Mad Men

The second season of the Golden Globe and Peabody Award-winning drama Mad Men has officially moved from the planning stage into reality this week with the beginning of production in Los Angeles. The series which will be broadcast in both high definition and standard definition will make its bow this July. While series creator Matthew Weiner has been customarily coy about divulging potential plot points for the upcoming season, he has revealed that John Slattery will be returning to the show as Roger Sterling.
Reminder: The first season of the series will be released on DVD July 1 and is available for pre-order for $10 off the retail price in the AMC Store. Fans can also look forward to the release of the compact disc Mad Men: Music from the Series, Vol. 1 on June 24 featuring thirteen songs featured in the show.

When does Man Men Season 2 start ?
Does this mean that Mad Men will no longer be filmed in New York City?
I am beyond excited!!!!
WAHOOO!!!
There's something to look forward to in the summer again!
Anybody know the exact date it starts?
Also, I see this year it'll be available in HD. Sounds great, but does any system show AMC in high-def? I've got DirecTV which doesn't, and doesn't show it coming soon. I don't think Dish TV or the cable systems have it either. Anyone know otherwise?
Comcast has just added AMC HD (at least here in Richmond, VA).
Looks like season 2 airs on October 18.
Looks like nobody is paying attention"
**When does Man Men Season 2 start ?**
JULY -- Read the headline: "Mad Men Returns for Season 2 in July 2008"
**Looks like season 2 airs on October 18.
NO. Read the details. Season 2 FINALE is October 18. There will be 13 eipsodes of Season 2.
Read before you write dumb questions.
And if you read reeeeeeeeeeally carefully... The SEASON 1 finale was October 18, 2007. That was announced when the show was renewed for a second season on September 20, 2007.
I'd guess that they can't/won't announce the Season 2 finale date until they figure out exactly when the Season 2 premiere date is.
Um, "July" doesn't really pin it down much, does it david? Narrows it to 31 days. Given that July is less than 6 weeks away, I think that the original poster probably wanted to know when in July.
I can't wait!!!!!!!!
Woodpecker et al,
As david pointed out, perhaps not entirely politely, if you do the math backwards from the finale on October 18, accounting for the fact that there will be no off-weeks, you'll arrive at the correct airdate for the season two premiere in late July. That's all I can say.
what year is this again? 2008 I heard.
Best of both possible worlds, I watch MM on BBC where there are no commercial breaks or other interruptions.
How DO you put up with all that rubbish?
Actually, Naldo, when Mad Men first aired here in the States, they paired each commercial break with a trivia snippet that gave some background information about the ad that was airing. It was kind of interesting, in a Pop-up Video kind of way. It certainly made the commercial breaks more palatable. With subsequent airings, though, the commercials were annoying, and there were more of them. But it gives you a minute to go to the bathroom, and maybe grab a snack or something to drink. You get used to it...
In my market, Charlotte, NC, Mad Men was avaialbe on demand on the HD Showcase channel without commercials. I think there was a few day delay on the availabilty though. So just watch it a week behind and you'll be golden.
Wow, isn't it lucky we all have david up there to keep us in line? Cool it man, we are all just here to gab and swap ideas not prove to each other how much more we know than all the others. oh well, just struck me wrong, I guess. Sorry if this post offends you, but you offended me. Hope you'll return with a few manners.
Well . . . I guess now we know . . . July 27th.

I am so excited for Season 2!!! I have no idea of the legalities, but I am a US armed forces member deployed overseas. Is it possible to DVD-R the episodes and get them sent to me??? Or does anyone know if AMC as a production company supports the troops in such a manner? I would be in 7th heaven to have the episodes sent as they come out. I can play them from my laptop easy enough. I'm so hooked on this show that I don't think I can get by on just the weekly snippits on the web after the episodes occur. Gotta have the real deal--Draper fix! THANKS!!!!!!
Can't wait for the season to begin. One of my favorite characters was Sal. Wanting to see how they will develop his character. Will he and Elliot meet again?. Would love to see that storyline expanded. Well done Writers and Producers! Mad Men is a sensation.
Don't forget to watch the Best Of Madmen this Sun 6/15 11:30 AM EDT,and at odd times the rest of w/o 6/15-21!
To re cap:
Season One Marathon, 7/20 Starts 12PM EDT
Season Two Start: 7/27, 10PM EDT
Interested in so many story lines: Is Rachel coming back, does Peggy keep the baby, does Pete get some of what he deserves, who does the new guy sleep with, do Paul and Joan... who's our lovable rogue Don's new love interest? SO juicy!
francine smoked like a chimney and i am curious if her baby will suffer from this? she even smoked when the baby was born in the nursery with Mrs. Draper... maybe some post-partum? they did not know of this then i am assuming and especially the devestating effects of smoking AND drinking while pregnant. i would like to see her character more. what so others think of this? will they portray the effects of the baby? but w/o knowing what is ''wrong?"
I seem to recall, kikkoman, Betty and Francine sitting there in the baby's nursery talking about how she wouldn't stop crying (or something or other) about how she was having some problem that Francine was worried about and discussing with Betty. I wonder if Betty smoked and drank during her pregnancies...funny, her kids seem ok. I do recall my mom told me she quit smoking during her pregnancies (1946 and 1950) and my brother and me seem ok...then again, she started back and smoked all during our growing up years as did my dad and I had chronic bronchitis most of my early adult years...for some reason I don't have it every winter as I did then. So, Francine was being reckless with her unborn baby's health, I think, since there must have been something known about the dangers of smoking-- even if it was just word of mouth--about how you shouldn't do it when pregnant or my mom would not have bothered to stop, I believe, she enjoyed it so much. I do recall there was a belief for a long time that the placenta was a "barrier" and bad stuff could not cross it, believe it or not! How they thought the nutrients could pass through the cord and not other things I can't imagine!
