Talk Forum: What You're Saying

The Talk forum this week gave birth to a healthy discussion about Peggy's season one surprise. Missmee got the ball rolling by asking, "Am I the only one bothered by the fact that Peggy just all of the sudden has a baby? I think she would have known she was pregnant..and she wasn't that fat."

KDH was less worried about the "what" and more concerned with the "who" -- and had some interesting theories about "who" could have sired the child: "I think maybe Peggy could have tried to block out a traumatic event by 'ignoring' the pregnancy. The way she just lived her life like nothing was going on (pregnancy wise) is what made me think she was trying to 'erase' (at least mentally) the fact she was pregnant. It's just interesting to think of different outcomes. The baby could indeed be Pete's--or that old date from back home she was rude to--who knows?"

Patricia weighed in, and offered some era analysis to Peggy's situation: "Abortions were not legal in the 60's and being pregnant and single was shameful to society -- you were an outcast. Pete's baby? I'd almost bet the bank on it. However, with the concealing way the writers put in these excellent twists and turns, I wouldn't be surprised if it was another's we haven't been introduced to as yet. By watching the reruns I'm picking up on many clues that I had not noticed before. It's like seeing a movie you really like more than once."
