Mad Men Style Makes Waves at Fashion Week

Any Mad Men fans who followed the developments at last week's Fashion Week in New York City can be forgiven if they had the nagging impression that they were watching a rerun of AMC's award-winning show. It seems that the movers and shakers of Seventh Avenue have been similarly struck with a nostalgia for the styles of the late '50s and early '60s.
The connection wasn't lost on Ruth La Ferla of the New York Times who wrote, "A harbinger of the current romance with midcentury America surfaced on television late last summer with the debut of Mad Men, the hit drama on AMC set in the streamlined steel and glass landscape of Madison Avenue in 1960."
Other fashion writers spotted the trend as well. The blog The Fashion Informer shows off the latest designs from Michael Kors and speculates that he must "love Mad Men as much as we do." Writing about the same collection, Women's Wear Daily also speculated about the Mad Men connection, noting, "Whether the looks were influenced by Mad Men, had an up-to-the-minute cool austerity or were just right for the red carpet, looking feminine, polished and even 'done' is definitely back."
Elsewhere, designer Peter Som explicitly credited the influence of Mad Men on his collection. He remarked to The Pittsburgh Post Gazette that he is "playing with Mad Men." He goes on to note, "I love the late '50s and early '60s refinement."

We don't often get to use the word "voluptuous" - and here comes Christina Hendricks giving us just that opportunity. What a refreshing change from the usual scrawny clotheshorses.
