Site of the Week: Basket of Kisses

Roberta and Deborah Lipp hold the distinction of running the only website devoted to Mad Men that's also run by sisters. "My thoughts on the show are so endless," Roberta explains, "I had to start a blog about it." That blog is Basket of Kisses--named after a comment Peggy makes about a wastepaper basket filled with lipstick-marked tissues.
While you might think a website such as theirs would be less active in between seasons, Roberta and Deborah have been filling theirs with fresh posts daily. "I've been specializing in following news feeds," Deborah says. Roberta, on the other hand, focuses on the show's language and anachronisms. She notes, "We are unofficial, unaffiliated, and therefore, boldly irreverent."
The snarky duo recently live-blogged during a New York Times webcast interview with the cast, and when nothing else is going on, they've been known to write posts that pick apart the minutiae of each episode. "Every character has texture, and the layers get revealed, at times, with incredible subtlety," Roberta says. "In terms of finding blogging material, it is so easy."
For Deborah, the best part about the site is the community they have developed: "We love interacting with TV fans, with Mad Men fans, and hey, with each other," she says. "Roberta and I love to talk about our favorite shows. The blog was a way to get others to join the conversation too!"
