Mad Men Wins Two Golden Globes

Mad Men beat out HBO's Big Love, FX Network's Damages, ABC's Grey's Anatomy, FOX's House, and the Showtime miniseries The Tudors for this year's Golden Globe for Best TV Drama. Also victorious was Jon Hamm who won a Golden Globe for Best Actor (Drama). Mad Men's series creator Matthew Weiner reflects upon the win:

It's an amazing experience to have an idea that you can barely put into words and then push through writing it, push five years up a hill to sell it, and then see it blossom into something better than you dreamed.
AMC General Manager and Executive Vice President Charlie Collier added,
We're thrilled to receive this incredible honor by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and thank them for recognizing us with this distinction.
Congratulations and thanks to Matthew Weiner for creating and writing such an outstanding series, and to Jon Hamm for bringing Don Draper to life in such a compelling way. We're incredibly proud of Mad Men and of the critical acclaim it's received, and want to extend our thanks and congratulations to the entire team that helped make the series such a success.
This is a truly momentous event for our network and a solid affirmation of our programming strategy of creating high-quality, scripted content that stands side-by-side with our extensive library of the best films of all time. We're looking forward to continuing to bring viewers distinctive, original programming with the launch of our newest series, Breaking Bad, this coming Sunday.

Congrats to two well-deserved wins! Mad Men was by far the best thing on television last year, and it's fantastic to see an excellent production validated and rewarded. People do appreciate intelligent entertainment. Now settle the writer's strike and bring us more please.
CONGRATULATIONS!
Mad Men in definitely the best show on Television this year. :)
CONGRATULATIONS! I am so excited by these wins for "Mad Men"...definitely the best show on television.
We all knew it was coming--the first of many awards for this exceptional television program! So sorry we couldn't see the acceptances on TV--this would be the very year they weren't televised! Congratulations to the entire cast and crew for the most rewarding viewing experience in recent memory, and especially to Jon, for his exquisite, award-winning portrayal of Don Draper!
One more thing--I want my DVD--what's taking so long??
Congrats to Jon Hamm...and 'Mad Men'!!!!!
Congratulations Matt Weiner and the whole Mad Men crew! Vindication for a fantastic effort! This is the best thing that could have happened for the show's future; I have been telling every one I know they must see this show and of course most had not even heard of it. After tonight's double victory, recognition will no longer be an issue.
Many congratulations to everyone! Y'all worked hard and deserve the recognition. Here's looking forward to Season 2!
anyone watching the morning shows today? not one of them will mention any of the tv award winners, i guess given that cable is so good and network is such garbage. the only tv award winner mentioned, of course is the most overhyped yet rather poor tina fey, who really isn't that good at what she does. that's a shame, people who actually really do a good job can't get credited. and network tv wonders why no one watches it
Of all the years for the Globes not to be shown...the year we miss Jon Hamm's stunning self cross the red carpet to grab his well-deserved Golden Globe.
Oh, well. There's always the Emmys. This show is so fantastic and high-quality that we can rest knowing more awards are surely forthcoming.
Congrats, Mad Men and Jon Hamm! Thanks so much for such an amazing summer!
Great job nabbing both awards for which the show was nominated. Can only believe that had more castmembers been recognized, more would have won ... thinking specifically of Christina Hendricks, Vinny Krautheiser, January Jones and John Slattery.
Also, is there a Mad Men DVD in our future??
ps - pls find a way to get Old Man Menken into Season 2 ... loved his scene in Season 1!
Congratulations to Matt and the whole Mad Men cast/crew! This series proves there are stories other than cops, lawyers and doctors in the human experience. Certainly the best thing on tv this season. I've been telling everyone I know about the show and it's a "must see".
I'm ecstatic, jumping for joy! I'm so glad to seen Mad Men and Jon Hamm get their just reward. Wish I could have seen it, please settle the strike so we can enjoy more of this outstanding show.
Congratulations. please bring the show back in its entirety IN PRIMETIME so others can catch on to what a well-deserving show this is.
YAY!
Congratulations to the show and to Jon Hamm. Im soooo glad for you, as I anxiously await the second season. How about repeating the On Demand availability so "others" can see what they're missing. Keep up the great work!
Congrats on the Golden Globe wins! I would have protested if Mad Men didn't win in their respective categories!! It just confirms what we all think of this fabulous show; that it's wonderful to watch and we savor every moment of it!! Keep up the good work!
Of all the possible moments to have a writer's strike! It robbed Mad Men of its moment in the spotlight. Especially for Jon Hamm. This is his moment! And it was sadly robbed. Sorry you all didn't get to take a bow in front of the world. You deserved it.
Congrats to Mad Men for winning 2 Golden Globes for best dramatic series, and especially to Jon Hamm for winning best actor. Was justly deserved !!!!!!! I feel bad that the writers strike robbed them of their "total" moment of glory. Can't wait till summer of 2008 for Season 2...especially since I am in the middle of a Nor'Eastern. We shall all be back for season 2.
Miss all of you, and I watch reruns when I find them
Ditto from me.
Well deserved !!!!
I am so happy for Matthew Weiner and for Jon Hamm.
It is such a bummer you two couldn't walk up in front of all and accept your awards the way it should be.
I have complete confidence you be doing that plenty in the future!
Keep up the great production and the great acting!
Love, Love, this show and to have it actually win is just icing on the cake! It is one of my all time favorite dramas ever. Congrats to everyone involved. Now where is the season DVD or could you please post full episodes online like other networks.
Yay Jon!!! We are so proud of you, we knew you would do it! And congrats to Matthew Weiner and the cast and crew. You all are amazing, we love you Jon! Thinking of you in St. Louis,
~Your family!
Congratulations to a well deserved cast and especially Jon, for giving us all goosebumps!
Thank you for this wonderful show! Congratulations!
DVD PLEASE!
Congratulations to everyone involved in this show! I'm SO thrilled that my favorite drama got the attention it deserved.
How wonderful. I have been pushing the show at everyone I know and now they will finally say, "maybe I should check this show out." Cannot wait until the next season hopefully this will cinch it.
Thank you AMC.
Let me also throw my hat in the ring to congratulate Mad Men & Mr. Hamm for the awards.
Now - when are the bleepin' DVDs coming out? My DVR is getting tired of holding all 13 ep's of Season 1!
Sopranos, The Wire, and now Mad Men. Thank you creative people who make these fine shows. That said, doesn't really remind me of my dog days in NYC advertising, probably because I was too far down the food chain.
Amazing news, congratulations! Glad the HFPA got it right. On to the SAGs!
I've been telling my friend to watch this show! It is outstanding and the awards were well deserved. Can't wait until season 2 .
I just read the good news about the double honors "Mad Men" brought home last night. When you win both awards for which you were nominated, that qualifies as a sweep!
Congratulations and deepest thanks, once again, for giving us a show of this depth and beauty. Jon Hamm is doing the work of his life, and I'm thrilled he's received this first recognition of it.
I'm in week two of a great job as a "creative" at the executive level of a midsize company. I wanted to share this: one of the deciding factors for me was the booze shelf in my boss's open office. On our 1-year anniversary he buys a bottle of our favorite libation and adds it to the stash.
"It can't sit out ON the desk, like in 'Mad Men'," he said. "But it's close."
This is absolutely the place for me. :)
congratulations-- to all on a very well deserved win-for once a well written and intelligent program gets the recognition it deserves----and more to come!!!
congrats to amc as well--for believing and acting on their belief that good taste and intellignece can be a part of popular programming
CONGRATULATIONS !!!! ......SEASON 2 ---PLEEEEEASE!!! SOON..........!
I worked at an ad agency in the 60s---right-on ...love the show !!!!!
Congratulations to the cast of Mad Men. It is a great show. In the early 60s I was a secretary in the advertising department of a prominent company and we used BBDO to manage our product advertising. I feel like I have a little of the inside of this show. It puts me right back in 60s and I am thoroughly enjoying it. Congratulations again... can't wait for season II.
Congratulations to Matthew Weiner and Jon Hamm! I wish we could have seen them go on stage and take a bow. Also wish we could have seen them and the rest of the cast walk the red carpet. There'll be more awards in their future, though, no doubt about it.
I'm going to say Congrats again, and then want to ask don't all of us regulars on this blog get a "free" DVD...LOL. Wouldn't that be nice?????
New England got 10 to 24 inches of snow during that Nor'Eastern I mentioned earlier so I am ready for summer and the new season. You can start sooner if you wish...we won't mind at all. See you Season 2, Episode 1
I agree this is the best show on TV! Congrats!...Can't wait for the new shows, keep 'em comin' for years, we will be watchin'
Thanks for making a great show, btw, office life really was like the show, I know, I worked in one.
Wouldn't mind receiving a free DVD.
Keep up the good work!
I knew from the first episode back in the heat of July that there was something very special about this show. I'm so glad that Mad Men and Jon Hamm got the recognition that they deserve. I'm only disappointed that more cast members were not nominated and that the great writing has not been "awarded" yet. The "bloggers" through the first season were both intelligent and hilarious. They deserve an award too....:)
I'm soooo thrilled they won this; especially mr hottie hamm
Congratulations to Jon Hamm and M. Weiner and company for a terrific season.
Now... Can we get the writer's strike over ASAP? As I recall, preparation for the new season was supposed to start in February.
Still watching for Season 1's DVDs.
Congratulations to Mad Men and Jon Hamm on their Golden Globe awards! Mad Men is the best show on television and I am so happy it got the recognition it deserves! I can't wait for the second season and the season 1 DVD release.
Congratulations to Hamm the most handsome man on tv. I only wish I could have seen him accept his award. He will do great things.
Finally, a television show that shows authenticity and actuality; characters, events, time period, relationships, et al.
I applaud the writers for continuously developing fresh, new scripts, love the actors that brilliantly bring the events to life, and most importantly - cannot wait to see "The Kennedy Years." I hope that you can at least take us through the end of the decade. Congratulations for standing out from the other shows. Well deserved.
What I wish is that the Mad Men group could have been able to be at the Golden Globes (no presentations or "glitz" because of the writers' strike...remember--crap) and we could have seen him GET his award. Too bad when he got to be where we could see him win, the Sopranos took over all the wins. I have nothing against the Sopranos and it deserved all it's wins when it was ON...but, now that it's OFF, let some of the other nominees have a chance! GO MAD MEN AT THE EMMYS AND WHATEVER OTHER AWARDS ARE STILL TO COME!
Congratulations Mad Men Cast, crew & writer on your Golden Globe win. Glad you are airing Mad Men on AMC from the beginning. Yeah... Can't wait for the DVD. Fano'Hamm
Also, Congratulations Jon Hamm on your SAG Award Nomination. I think you deserved it. Fano'Hamm
Congrats to all from the top to the bottom for your Golden Glob award....and to Jon Hamm on your best actor award. I am so sorry they did not have a golden globe show, so we all could have seen it presented to you. Unless they did and I missed it.
I learn so much from Mad Men, in many different aspects. For one it makes me appreciate the year I am in as a women for laws in our protection from sexual harrassement. I love wearing pants, jeans, and casual/comfortable clothes with birkenstock shoes and still be attractive to men.
I hope to see many, many more 22 week seasons to come. Peace and Happiness to all!
