On Saturday night, Mad Men picked up top honors at The Director's Guild of America Awards when Alan Taylor won the statuette for Best Direction of a Drama Series for Mad Men's pilot episode, "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes."

Before taking on this project, Taylor had helmed countless episodes of some of HBO's most acclaimed series, such as Big Love, Deadwood, Sex and the City and The Sopranos (for which he won an Emmy last year). He has also taken on episodes of The West Wing and Lost.

In addition to his work in television, Taylor has directed the feature films Palookaville, The Emperor's New Clothes and Kill the Poor.
