I was so happy to see that Mad Men has been picked up for a second season. It is definitely one of the smartest new shows around. The cast is great and the plot is always thought provoking - I love the 60s setting. Keep up the good work!

default userpic

I love the show Mad Men. Wonderful storyline, acting and suspense. A real look at life in the corporate world during the 60s. Want more, more, more

default userpic

This is the best show on television! Brilliant! I was beginning to think TV had become a true vast wasteland. Thank you SO much.

One question, I have seen some discussion that the next season will jump ahead 2 years. Is this accurate, or will it start back where it left off, approximately Thanksgiving 1960?

Thanks,

Mary

default userpic

Mary - I've read where Matt Weiner has said it will not pick up exactly where it leaves off, but he's not sure exactly where it will begin.

default userpic

It was so hard to see the words "off season" in cold hard print. Good to hear the blogs will continue with new input on the AMC site to ease the withdrawal pangs. Kudos to everyone involved with the best show ever.

default userpic

I absolutely LOVE your show! I'm 51 years old and can really relate to the way things were back then. Sure, I was only 4 years old in 1960, but that time period built the foundation upon which I would chart my life. I do remember my father, grandfather, uncles, etc., dressing like the guys in the show; I remember pregnant women smoking and drinking (and somehow I turned out relatively normal!!); I remember drunk people driving like it's no big deal (where I lived, if a cop pulled them over, the cop would say "Okay buddy, just slow down, take it easy. Be careful and just go home and sleep it off"!) But the show really does bring back childhood memories. And that JON HAMM...oooohh! Fuggittaboutit, baby! He is SMOKIN' as Don Draper. Don is so handsome, charming, and talented but yet has turned out to be quite multi-dimensional. We see him as a man who has it all, but yet hides an inner torment.

Mr. Weiner, whatever you do, PLEASE do not take Don Draper out of my life now that you've introduced him to me! This show is fabulous and I'm particularly looking forward to seeing how the characters evolve (if everybody on the show doesn't end up dying of lung cancer...LOL!)!! Serious, bring us more of those GRRREEAT episodes!! Love ya!

default userpic

Mr. Weiner and Co...my poor husband just got over (sort of) his Sopranos Withdrawal...and I no sooner got him addicted to Mad Men! Here we go again! Hopefully, poised for at least 10 (at least 5 PLEASE) good juicy years of being entertained by Don, Roger, Joan, Betty, Mona, Pete, Peggy, Paul, Harry, Ken and we CAN'T WAIT! (But we will) WONDERFUL FANTASTIC SHOW!

default userpic

LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT...THAT SAYS IT ALL! TALENT DOES EXIST AND MAD MEN IS LOUSY WITH IT!

default userpic

I can't believe I forgot to mention good old Cooper (Burt)?? Bless his crazy excentric heart!!

default userpic

AFTER STUPID CAVEMEN SHOWS AND AWFUL ALL OTHER SHOWS BEING SO POORLY WRITTEN- I AM SO EXCITED TO SEE A SHOW I ADORE AND FEEL IS SO WELL WRITTEN. THE CHARACTERS ARE DEVELOPING AT A PACE THAT IS FAST- BUT NOT TOO FAST- KEEP IT SLOW SO WE NEVER HAVE TO RUN OUT OF SHOWS. DONT BREAK MY HEART AND STOP THE SHOWS-NOT POSSIBLE TO KEEP IT FOR MOST OF THE YEAR>? INTELLIGENT SHOW- STELLAR ACTORS AND THANK GOD FOR THURSDAYS!

PLEASE KEEP MAD MEN GOING ON AND ON- OODLES OF GREAT THINGS HAPPENING ALL AT ONCE- BRAVO- MY HATS OFF TO YOU ALL!

default userpic

eccentric, I mean (spelling?) I got excited! Mad Men does tend to get my heart racing!

default userpic

My Gosh! I even forgot about old conflicted, elegant, talented Sal (a few posts back)! Look forward to his upcoming conflicts and resolutions too...hope he finds contentment in his life.

default userpic

Wow, I love this show. Hate most television with a passion, except for anything done by Bryan Fuller and now, Matthew Weiner.

This show just sucks you in completely - first with sheer austere beauty and then with such compelling, multi-layered characterizations.

What a gem. I blog on the show at least once a week - mostly just drool...type..drool Jon Hamm...brilliant show...type type drool.

But it's amazing. Truly amazing. Hope some new fans climb aboard after being able to catch it on On Demand or online.

default userpic

It's the best, and I don't know how I'm going to survive without it until next June. Will there be reruns?

Here's a suggestion, to make it even more realistic, have you considered doing at least some (or, better yet, all) of the episodes next season in black and white instead of color? In 1960, I knew only one family that had a color tv, and only a few shows were in color. The rest of us watched everything in b & w for several more years.

default userpic

Season finale in my area tonight and I find myself waiting for it for days. Will have withdrawal waiting for Season 2, summer 2008. Please continue on demand showimgs and this blog as I am an addict to this show. Thanks sooooo much

default userpic

BEST show on TV.

The only show I am disappointed to miss on Thursday nights.

Hope the younger women see how things once were, and appreciate the strides women have made, in the workplace.

default userpic

No question, Madmen is the BEST drama on the tube in ages. Note: just listened to comments in media regarding 60s fashion. It is said that young men are starting to dress up in jacket, shirt & ties again. All because of MadMen. Proof that MadMen has had a profound influence on today's society. Congrats to writer/producers/actors. A superb production. Can't wait for next season. Thanks, guys & gals.

default userpic

i've posted a few times on these boards how poorly amc was marketing the show. within the last couple of weeks, the pub has started to kick in, with (finally) a "Must Watch" mention from EW, a huge photo spread featuring January Jones in the NYPost, and today's full page ad in the Times.

nice to see the show start to break out ... hopefully an off-season of reruns/marathons can generate the buzz for the start of season 2 next year.

don't be shy, amc!!!

default userpic

Well I go way back, when I was a kid we were the first ones on our block to get a tv, all the neighbors would come in and we'd watch a tiny snowy screen anxiously awaiting Howdy Doody. Not long after came monday nights I Love Lucy, Tuesday, Milton Berle, Saturday The Honeymooners and lets not forget Sid Caeser. Playhouse 90 on Sunday nights. This is often referred to as the Golden Age of Television. After all these years I still remember these shows and when they were on. I suspect that when I'm in the nursing home in Depends, I'll be remembering Thursday nights and MAD MEN.

default userpic

This show is so good about details-what about the family of the "real" Don Ropper?Wouldn't they try to find out what happened to him after the war? As a purple heart recepient wouldn't even the army show an interest in what happened to him?

default userpic

Ali -

The Purple Heart is for being a documented battle casualty. They give them out like candy to wounded soldiers in hospitals. That his name was on the box was probably because he was an officer.

The Army might care if he was a Congressional Medal of Honor winner but probably not otherwise.

default userpic

Weiner said some interesting things in a Multichannel News interview, posted yesterday. Multichannel.com - about time jumping the series. I don't want to say much more because of spoilers.

default userpic

I'm mad about MAD MEN !! Does anyone know when Season 1 is coming out on DVD? I am going to buy it and let everyone I know borrow it so they can see for themselves what a quality, well-written show looks like. I am 50ish and remember well my Dad wearing the suits and hats seen on Mad Men and my mom wearing the tight clothing and pointy (ugh) undergarments. And let's not forget girdles. I agree with the poster above who wants 10 more years of Mad Men. I hope Jon Hamm and Vincent Kartheiser receive Emmy nominations for their very strong performances - the rest of the cast is also top-notch. Great show, Matt.

default userpic

aidan7,

Thanks for the reference to the Multichannel News interview. VERY interesting.

default userpic

What Mad Men needs is publicity, publicity publicity!

It simply has not been given enough exposure.

Excellent show. I very rarely watch TV -- Mad Men is one of the few shows I tune into regularly.

I simply cannot say enough.

See you all next season...and bring on Season 1's DVD!

default userpic

It's 6:41 p.m. here in Los Angeles. I've got 3 hours and 19 minutes to go until the finale!

Then, it's onto rehab to treat my Mad Men withdrawal.

default userpic

Excellent writing takes time so I forgive you all for making your fans wait till summer 2008 for season 2. You have captivated my curiousity since episode 1. Kudos to ALL who are associated with this fabulous show. Can't wait for season 2. Thanks for great story telling and terrific television.

default userpic

OMG!!!!!!!!!!! What an episode! Can you BELIEVE Peggy. Guess we all thought wrong! A BOY!!!!! How 'bout how sad & lost Don was at the end. My heart broke when he found out about Adam. Geez, don't you LOVE how this show moves, doesn't stay stuck on a subject for long?! How 'bout Betty and the kid? Man, that was wild. She sure had nothing to say to her poor friend, pooring her heart out..guess really that is how is was back then though, don't revile your true thoughts...and Harry poor Harry...eatin' crow!AND PETE...Don stuck it too him! Yeah! Loved Don's presentation, huh! What the heck are we going to do till June...watch the leaves and snow fall...

default userpic

Season 1 DVD?

default userpic

This is my favorite show and the best on tv.

Does anyone know if it will be released on dvd soon?

default userpic

Dear creators and cast:

Thank you! You are all fantastic! I never been this hooked before.

I think I sat in the air the last episode.

I LOVE you! ("Pete", I´m looking your direction!)

And yes. What about DVDs? I want the mistakes.

default userpic

I Love the show and will definitely suffer withdrawal! I was only 10 in 1960, but the things I remember and the behavior of adults is spot on. The ensemble cast is amazing--they are young but sure know how to capture the mannerisms of people who are now old enough to be their parents and in many cases, grandparents. Don Draper's speeches to his clients can be mesmerizing. I would certainly buy into his pitches. Can hardly wait for Season 2--keep up the great writing and acting!!

default userpic

What is going on?

For the last 2 Thursday nights at 10 pm there is a Henry Fonda movie instead of the scheduled Mad Men episode. Fonda is great but why am I seeing that instead of the last two episodes of MM? Is it only my TV.

It's too much of a cliffhanger. Help, I need some relief.

default userpic

I don't usually post anything on comment boards etc BUT.......I can't help myself. Mad Men is a sleeper and simply outragious! The subtle (and not so at times) plots, the acting and the directions things go in are perfect. "The Wheel" was outstanding. Great work guys! We're all lucky to have this show.

default userpic

Peggy is one messed up biatch...yikes..how

is she going to return to work 20 pounds

lighter and explain the weight loss???

and I am actually admiring Betty right now. I don't think she could have told her friend anything.. she consoled her the best way she could.. What was she going to tell her.. to leave her cheating husband???

I love this show, my favorite. As the other blogger mentioned when Sopranos ended my husband needed to find a new obsession and he found Mad Men and got me hooked as well.

Ciao a tutti..

default userpic

A neighbor told me about Mad Men earlier in the summer. My husband and I were completely hooked after watching one episode. I missed the earlier episodes and hope they rerun all of them or will bring them out on DVD. More publicity is definitely needed. It is a wonderful show with superb acting. I don't know if I can wait until next summer.

default userpic

Mad Men is the best shows running - and touches most of us who lived through the prosperous 50's and undeveloped selves during the early 60's.

I vote Joan Holloway as one of the sexiest woman ever to appear on the screen. That scene of her walking through the office with Peggy in that awesome black/orange dress was unreal. She has a talent for moving each of her various sumptuous body parts independently and flirtatiously.

And I imagine that many men can relate to Don's sufferings - and his inability to work them through.

default userpic

The show is a true look into the past. Aside from the everyday, universal themes, I like the realistic fashion, and the gizmoes. The haircuts are a little off, they need more flat tops / grease. The guys should use sliderules, pocket protectors, manual adding machines, and other period equipment. I remember nuclear war paranoia, racial tension, civil rights, hippies, beatnicks, etc. that could fklavor future episodes. The extramarital sex, machoism, heavy smoking etc. is interesting but boring after a while...the gadgets, furniture, posters, old commercials are what I enjoy seeing

default userpic

This is for Pat who asked on 10/19 at 10:26 a.m. why A Henry Fonda movie was playing instead of Mad Men....

My cable provider is Comcast New Jersey and they sent a letter to us in September saying that they were switching two channels over to digital cable (requiring a new cable box, remote and higher rates as well). The changes were to go into effect on October 8th. The two channels being switched were Court TV and you guessed it---AMC!

I panicked at the thought of not seeing Don and Company for the last two episodes, and got set up with digital cable asap. We opted for the Digital Preferred plan and it wound up costing an extra $5.00 for the service plus $3.95 for each remote per month--came to an additional $12.90 for both TV Sets per month. We chose the DIGITAL PREFERRED package since it also had more channels and "On Demand" where you can go to the "TV ENTERTAINMENT" "On Demand" section and watch the last 5 or 6 episodes of Mad Men without any commercial interruption and at no additional charge; they've also got some interesting movies and other things there as well. FYI, the channel you are receiving on your AMC station is most probably Turner Classic Movies (TCM).I have one set left without the new service and that's what I'm getting there now. Hope this helps!

default userpic

West Coasters - I hate to admit it but I just could not wait last night for the finale. I turned to the posts here for some hints from those who had already seen the program in earlier time zones.

I won't do that again, but couldn't help myself.

I LOVE the writing, acting, LIGHTING, choreography. I notice it all and study it in the encore. I hope AMC will continue the encore presentation next season. It is so important for me to see it again right away to really drink in every drop.

Oh . . . and Sal . . . I love Sal and hope he finds a good next season waiting for him. Everyone is wonderful, simply wonderful.

NOW . . . "where have all the writers gone? Long time passing? Where have all the writers gone? . . . "

Let's nurture all the writers of our world and take back TV.

Let's bring back intelligence. AMC just did it.

"Please, may we 'ave somemore, Sir?"

default userpic

We've been STARVING out here for so long, quality television, does it exist? Well, I'm no longer hungry, MAD MEN fills the void. I can't thank AMC enough for picking up this series, I literally stayed home for 13 Thursdays in a row, wouldn't leave the house, why?, MAD MEN is on. It's been years since a tv show has kept me home.

default userpic

More Roger Sterling next season. Please :)

default userpic

I agree, Roger Sterling and his dry wit, don't you dare get rid of him!

default userpic

i am addicted.i am waiting for more.i feel like i'm learning something while being entertained. i often wonder how i would react in the situations presented.

default userpic

As a 76 year old wife and mother, MAD MEN resurrected a period in my life that filled me with indescribable nostalgia. It brought home the mores and values that existed then and sad to say that to a large degree today continue to erode. I want to congratulate all of the cast that succeeded in genuinely recreating the gender roles that existed. It is an excellent and exceptional show and I look forward with pleasure to the 2008 season.

default userpic

Here's a question for the creators. Will a DVD be released? I've downloaded a few episodes on iTunes, but I'd prefer to have a DVD. Thanks in advance.

default userpic

Ditto from Mrs. A. I must get a DVD copy of before season 2. I missed the last 6 episodes and I must have my MM "fix" soon! Thanks, Elaine

ps Thanks Matt for replacing my craving for the Sopranos!!

default userpic

To the producers of Mad Men and AMC TV----

Congratulations on bringing quality back to television; who knows---it just might start a trend in that direction!

We all would appreciate a formal announcement on this site as to the release date of the first season DVD, similar to when you announced the renewal of the show for Season Two!

Many thanks from those of us who are Mad About Mad Men!!!!!!

default userpic

I was 18 in my first job after HS with an Ad Agency - you have it down - the smoking, the drinking, how women (girls)were treated and how we dressed - on the money.

Great acting and am thoroughly enjoying it. Will be hard to wait till next season.

default userpic

Hi Matthew W. Thank you for a fantastic show. You, the other creators and the actors are doing an amazing job.

My 3 questions are: How big of a "jump" is the show going to take? Timewise. I heard rumors that the second season will take place two years ahead.

My second question is really more a need of confirm. Peggy´s little boy: Is he Pete´s and is he alive? It´s a lot of speculation that Peggy had a baby with someone else and/or miscarried and the nurse brought her a baby that wasn´t her´s for whatever reason.

My third question is about DVDs. When will they be released? I want a lot of bloopers please:-)

Thank you again for this brilliant show. I love the way everyone is treating my favorite character, Pete. Dont go easier on him the second season please:-)

default userpic

Congratulations to the Creator,Cast,Writers,Producers and AMC! I have been a die hard fan since episode one. I was 10 yrs. old in 1960 but remember everything about the era and you are perfect. When I was 21 I was hired by

a BIG ad agency that is mentioned on Mad Men and you're spot on with that too. I LOVED working there. It was glamorous and exciting, just like the show. Very male oriented but at that time I didn't know any better but WOW can I see the chauvinism through these 2007 eyes now.

I have never written a fan letter but I am like everyone else on this blog..I'm smitten and hooked with this program. It's truely a talented ensemble cast but I LOVE Jon Hamm(Don),Betty, and Peggy. I have sung your praises to all my friends.

Can't wait for summer of 2008!

Thank you for a sweet nostolgiac quantam leap.

default userpic

A review in the Times prompted me to start watching Madmen and now, like all the other addicts, Thursday nights won't be the same. I was a Madison Avenue (Y&R)ad agency "girl" in the post-war 40's, and the show is right on target. I then became a 1950 bride and a stay-at-home mother. I'd be lying if I said it wasn't a letdown.

default userpic

I have two 1959 red Impalas sitting in the garage, and they're only slightly more authentic than MAD MEN! I keep having nagging little disconcerting sights, like the part in Betty's hair. It had to be *at least* as straight as Don's! And the women's hair could use more teasing and more hairspray.I was at a Dallas agency late in the decade and cast models from Braniff and the Apparel Mart - life was never lived so high as advertising in the 60's!

default userpic

I don't understand why viewers have to wait until Summer, 08. Now you have a momentum building, and I will still be as excited about the show as I am now but you may lose a lot of viewers because of the length of time. Also, you need more publicity. I work in a large office, and no one but me, as far as I know, has even heard of the show. If it was publicized more, there would be many more viewers than you already have. Hope Roger is on every week. I realize he works on Desperate Housewives, but hoping he is on every episode next year. Of course, still love that man,Don Draper.

default userpic

Betty, I agree with you, every time I mention Mad Men to anyone, they've never heard of it. I keep talking it up, hoping to spread the word. Mad Men is going to have to do more advertising!

default userpic

Maggie Siff coming back?

default userpic

skiperdee123: I read an interview with Matt Weiner (exec producer) who said that "everyone will be coming back." I'm sure that means Maggie Siff (Rachel) as well.

default userpic

I agree with everyone! I hate the words Season Finale and having to wait till Summer of 08! I don't think I'll survive!! Question for Matt Weiner: How do I get to be in the show? Do you need a good looking Asian for your time period show - we existed in the 60's you know! I'm not opposed to having a fling with Don Draper!! LOL!! Love the show!! Bring it back quickly and knock my socks off!!

default userpic

You have made what is going to become a classic show 47 years later than it's time. The characters are tailor made for their parts(bravo!). Their demeanors, clothes, offices, tables, you name it is perfect down to the last detail. Smoking was more common than nail biting in 1960. Philip Morris must be so proud of everyone in the cast puffing so eloquently. Robert Morse I remember well from the 60's(Guide for the married man w/Walter Matthau). He can sure teach Draper eh? Keep up the good work Mr. Weiner you struck gold with this show!!!!

default userpic

Why wans't January Jones (Betty) at the cast Wrap up party?

default userpic

Is it true that prior to turning to acting Jon Hamm was a high school English teacher?

default userpic

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS SHOW. PLEASE PLEASE

DO A LONG ALL DAY SHOWING OF EACH EPISODE

LIKE FX DID WITH DAMAGES THIS LAST WEEK.

MADMEN IS MY FAVORITE BAR NONE. I AM 56, AND JUST "COMING OF AGE" WHEN THIS PERIOD

BEGAN FOR REAL. I REMEMBER THOSE TIGHT SKIRTS AND PANTY HOSE.

I AM CONFUSED ABOUT PEGGY. DID SHE NOT KNOW SHE WAS PREGNANT? OR DID I MISS SOMETHING, PLEASE RERUN THE LAST COUPLE OF

SHOWS!!

default userpic

This is the best show I have viewed in a long time. The attention to detail is outstanding and the characters are top notch. I can not wait for season 2

default userpic

Last show was terrific and like everyone else I"m looking forward to season 2.

One quibble, though. Peggy is supposed to be smart. There was no effort for her to acknowledge, even privately before her own mirror, that she was gaining weight, that her breasts were changing, that she was not menstruating. This is a smart woman? (Duh!) Her rejection of the child was true to the character of this ambitious female, however.

We have Don's backstory. Now we need to know more about this young women who, at a time when women were encouraged to be stay at home mothers, she elects to enter the world of mad men!

default userpic

Absolutely am in love with this show!! Cannot bear waiting all through the winter without these characters. Goodness sakes, please continue to write the intriguing episodes that got us all hooked. Best show on TV, hands down. Is a window into the world of my parents while I was just a kid.

default userpic

This program is really like watching a film in segments; each episode could stand alone, thanks to dead-on writing, photography, casting, etc. I really appreciate being able to watch a program as intellectually stimulating as MADMEN. Although it doesn't help the ratings (I guess)it's sort of cool to be involved with a program that's "under the radar"...but I do spread the word!

default userpic

Re: the other thread with cast questions... No Bryan Batt? Christina Hendricks? Michael Gladis? Aaron Staton?

default userpic

Re: the other thread with cast questions... No Bryan Batt? Christina Hendricks? Michael Gladis? Aaron Staton?

default userpic

When does Season 2 air? It seems strange that it could actually be 7 or 8 months between seaons?

I love this show. Culturally educational, great writing, exceptional realization of unique characters. yea!

default userpic

I just saw Bryan Batt (Salvatore) on a seaon 1 episode of Rescue Me playing a probably gay photographer. He was funny!

default userpic

When will MAD MEN be released in DVD format. I want to buy it.

default userpic

The show is my parents' life. My dad was Don, even in looks. He worked with McCann Erickson in Chicago & BBDO in LA. from the mid-50s through the 60s. The smoking, martinis, philandering, big accounts, were all there.

I love the show's attention to detail. The writing, set design, costuming, make-up, acting: all are impeccable.

default userpic

Just wanted to echo the other posters' encouragement that the first season be released on DVD soon. If only before christmas--I would have my shopping done!
