Hi Kartheiser! You are doing a fantastic job.Pete has to be my favorite character in anything right now. I am completly blown away! And Swedish, therefor my horrible English. Sorry.

My question(s) are, what are you going to do during the hiatus? Any plans for a movie or something?

Also, what´s your favorite thing about playing Pete?

If you didn´t get the role of Pete, but had to play someone else instead, who would you shoose?

What do you wish would happen with your character in season 2?

Private. I haven´t seen anything you have done yet, but I am thinking of it, since I am becoming a huge fan. What do you recommend of your own work?

That was a lot of questions. Thank you so much.

Mr. Kartheiser. First I have to agree with Edward. Pete is my favorite character and you are a terrific actor!

I have a couple of questions;

1. Anything embarrassing happening to you on set? Hopfully Matthew W. gets a menacing look in his face and save everything for bloopers on the DVD but you can never be sure, so I´m asking you instead:-)

2. What is you own favoritescene and episode? (My personal favorite scene is Pete staring out the window in the end of New Amsterdam. I will forever connect that Fitzgerald-song with Pete.)

Hello there! I agree with that written above, brilliant actor and all that...

1. This isn't so much a question as a request for loads and loads of extra material on the DVDs with (hopefully) some new interviews with you as well.

2. For those of us who live abroad (yep I'm Swedish too) and who aren't that familiar with the show yet, how would you explain Pete, i.e. in what context should we place his actions as a consequence of his background/ what is his ambition in life/ who is he really?

3. I imagine Mad Men has made you somewhat more of a household name than Angel ever did, have you experienced any "memorable" fan encounters because of it (read: have you run into any nutters)?

4. And finally, who on the set do you reckon is the most like you personality wise and have you made any friends for life?

This isn't really a question, more of a comment. Pete is a great character!! Thanks for making him a lot of fun. Are you channeling Ralph Reed when you play him?

default userpic

Hi There Mr. Kartheiser! I will ask you the same question I asked Mr. Slattery---How much fun IS it to play a real jerk? It must be a complete joy to go to work every day! I do think you deserve an Emmy and hope you and all of your colleagues are nominated next year! Good luck in coming seasons (many, I hope)

After the bachelor party, how did Pete find out where Peggy lived? Did he take 2 trains to get there? And was it on the evening of Friday, April Fools Day, 1960? Inquiring fans want to know! :)

default userpic

Jon Hamm mentioned Sam Elliott as one of the actors whose style he studied for his character. Do you have another actor in mind when you're creating Pete Campbell?

default userpic

I think you are amazing and deserve an Emmy.

-What do you wish will happen with Pete in season 2?

-What do you think of Peggy and Pete having a baby? (There are some speculation about Trudy´s not being able to get pregnant and the in-laws blaming poor Pete for it.

The fans really making up ways to torture your character:-) As long as he doesn´t die, I´m ok. He is my favorite character.)

-Peggy or Trudy? Who would be your choice?

About you; What do you prefer, Theater, shows or movies?

Thank you for reading.

Dear Vincent,

You did a wonderful job with Pete in S1. My question is whether you ultimately view Pete as a "good" guy or a "bad" guy. He's such an enigma so I just wondered when you are reading scripts and taking him on, what do you see as his defining characteristic? Self-preservation??

default userpic

You do a great job playing Pete--you make us hate him for the sleaze that he is, yet feel a little sorry for him and empathize with him for his frustration-- all at the same time.

default userpic

Vincent,

There is something very touching about Pete at times. He seems to be a confused, sad, lost little boy who needs a big hug! This is the other side of the coin from the conniving, self-important scoundrel he is most of the time.

Are you deliberately developing Pete to show both these sides of his character and personality, perhaps in preparation for a time in the future when Pete grows up and becomes a productive member of society and a smart, effective team player?

Whichever way Pete goes, he is lucky to be in your capable hands!

First let me start by saying what a HUGE fan I am. Second - my question - do you like the characters that you play, would these be guys that you would personally be friends with (I mean all of the characters you've played, not just Pete)? Last but not least, while you are considering which fan question to answer let me plead my case by saying that I have spent about $200.00 to be able to watch this first season just because you're in it. It was well worth it with just the first five minutes of The Hobo Code alone. LOL. Plus I am such a huge fan that I have a very nice portrait tattoo of you. Thank you for considering my question and for a wonderfull first season of Mad Men.

VK! Keep doing what you're doing. You are fantastic as Pete Campbell! The perfect Wile E. Coyote to Don Draper's Roadrunner. LOL. What or who was your main inspiration for this character? Do you like Pete; does he have any redeeming qualities?

default userpic

First off, I just want to say you delivered such a great performance as Pete Campbell I'd be really disappointed if you don't win an Emmy for it.

As for my questions:

1. What would you like to happen with your character in Season 2?

2. What is it about Pete that you like and dislike?

3. Had you lived in the 60s, could you have pursued a career in advertising?

BTW, I'd really like to know what your future projects are aside from Mad Men.

That's a lot of questions, I know, but you could just pick one...or two...or all. =P

Thanks.

Vincent K!

Hello and thank you for reading my question. I agree with the others. I love to hate Pete! He is a great character.

Q; You have played some unsympatic characters before. Have you ever gotten into trouble with "fans" for it? Like beaten up or they been rude to you? How have that been with Pete?

default userpic

Sorry, confusing question above...

Have anyone been mean to you because of the characters you play? (I´m from France)

I love the show. It's a gem in a sea of TV trash. Your characterization of Pete is awesome & I think you're an excellent actor. My question is...what did you do to prepare for the role, especially for the nuances of life 40+ years ago?

default userpic

Hey Vincent.

Gotta say up front that I think you're a superb actor. For how long I've followed your work you've always seem to nail your character just right. Ok that seems like a funny complement put another way but hey, wrote down what I first thought :)

I know we're suppose to ask you questions about the show but I gotta know, what are your thoughts about the WGA Strike? I read that you're a big supporter and just like to know your point of view.

default userpic

Hey vincent! i was just wondering which project did you enjoy doing the most? and how has things changed for you in the acting industry for the last 10 years?

default userpic

Hi Vincent! I was watching an "ER" rerun when I was off over Christmas and saw a young man with dark hair playing the part of a suicidal artist...couldn't figure out how I knew that voice, etc. Then it hit me...Pete Campbell! Love "Mad Men" and you are the character I most love to hate. You are despicable! and wonderful! Can't wait for Season 2.

default userpic

Hey there Vincent! The first movie I saw you in is Crime and Punishment in Suburbia, and I was a huge fan from the start. I also saw you in The Cherry Lane Theatre in NYC but didn't get to actually get your autograph which was a bummer. I believe that with Mad Men, you will finally get the recognition and exposure you deserve. I would put your acting in the caliber of James Dean, Leo DiCaprio, and other Oscar worthy stars.
You breathe such life into your characters and definitely deserve an Emmy on Mad Men!

My question is on Mad Men, there is this sinister side to Pete that reminds me of a young Anthony Perkins, especially when Pete is telling Peggy that hunting tale, and also when Pete tells Peggy he doesn't like her behavior in a club scene.
1) Is there a particular actor that has influenced you?
2) What other projects will you be doing (I hope another play in NYC)?
