While on the psychiatrist's couch in the finale episode, when you shifted your eyes to the side for those comments about Don, was that written, directed at the time or your idea?

Whoever it was, it really enhanced Betty's stature as a character, showing she was thinking about what she was saying, manipulating the situation, rather than stream-of-consciousness.

One more question. When Francine suggested to Betty that she might know how to react about Carlton's affair, was it because "the perfect wife" Betty knew how to do everything better than she did? Or did Francine think Don was having affairs and how did Betty handle it?

Miss JJ--Betty became so much more interesting as the season went along, great work!

How would you describe the connection between your character and Glenn?

Some of my favorite scenes were between Betty and Francine. What were some of your favorites from season 1?

Best wishes for continued success!

January,

Is it harder to play a Betty-type character who is repressed? Most of the conflict with Betty is unexpressed, except on occasion when she loses her composure (the slap, the birds). Most of the time you can only tell what she's thinking through her facial expressions, like when she glared at Don during the infidelity discussion, or her sideways glance at the psychiatrist. This is what makes Betty my favorite character. She says so much without words.

Keep up the good work!

As a UCLA science undergrad, I once ventured to North campus to try to take an introductory acting class. when I realized an audition in front of the class was required before the professor even gave the first lecture, I quickly slunk back to South campus with the rest of the techies. I've always wanted to ask a real actor:

How do you deal with the scrutiny that comes with your chosen profession? What kind of internal armor do you have that the rest of us lack?

I was particularly interested in your characterization of Betty Draper because of the corollary with my own mom, who lived a similar lifestyle. How would you describe her relationship with her children?

I just wanted to say I'm enjoying your portrayal of Betty.

Keep up the excellent work!

Have your grandparents or other older relatives given you feedback on what the late fifties/early sixties were like? What do they think about the Draper family in general, and about Betty in particular?

Did you watch a lot of Grace Kelly movies and study her to get that "look"? Because Betty definitely has it.

First and formost you are doing an excellent job, but does it bother you at all to play such a dense character. I mean Betty does not seem to "cook on the front burner" all the time.

January,

In 1960 Betty is 28, and Glen is 10. In ten years (depending on how Matt Weiner decides to progress through the decade) Betty will be 38, and Glen will be 20.

At that point (1970) how would you feel about some sort of relationship developing between Betty and Glen?

This is assuming that Don and Betty are still together but are still living in emotional limbo.

Hi January,

I was just wondering what is was like filming Mad men. Did you get on with all the cast members, was it a lot of fun to film etc?

Also what are your personal favourite tv shows? Are you a fan of Heroes?

If you've ever got a few spare minutes I'd love it if you could check out the fan site I run on your self, January Jones Source. The address is: http://www.fan-sites.org/january

Best wishes,

Angharad.

For me, Betty is the most interesting character on the show. This season she appears to be heading down a much darker path, or at least considering it. Don seems to worried about himself to even try and understand what is happening to her. My question is, do you think Betty is still in love with him?

How bad are the fake cigarettes you smoke in your scenes?
