Mad Men is the first plotted TV series I've watched religiously for several years. I'll certainly miss it until it returns next year.
I'm afraid that Peggy's "situation" at the end of the season finale seemed much too far-fetched for a series that seemed always to be "on the money". To me, Peggy has always had an underlying intellignece that should not be underestimated. I realize that she is somewhat naive at the same time, but I cannot fathom how she could carry a baby for nine months and still be totally unaware of her condition.
This was a jarring and disconcerting turn of events in what has otherwise been a stellar television series. I hope I'm missing something and this will make sense when the program returns.
Thank you -- still a loyal fan,
Daniel O'Brien
You must know that many, many working women are rooting for your character, Peggy. What do you like best about her?
(not a very sophisticated question but the one I really want to ask)
Dear Ms. Moss:
How could a young, naive secretary make a pass at her boss, see a doctor for The Pill, and jump into bed with Pete all on her first day at work?
Is Peggy really as inexperienced as we think she is?
She was very rude to the truckdriver on their date, as well as to Annie when doing the voiceover. She's got a lot to learn about dealing with people.
Anyway, thank you for doing such a superb job in such a great show.
She wasnt rude to the truckdriver...he DERSERVED it!!!!!! She is the type of girl that does not take bs from people..good for her. In regards to the pregnancy---it happens all the time--more than people think...she probably wanted to ignore it and she did until the bitter end...its on the news all the time!!
Prior to filming the season one finale, did the writers conceal from you the fact that Peggy's weight gain was due to pregnancy?
Peggy's character is difficult to believe, but as an unpopular girl and naieve about office politics she went into denial about this pregnancy. It was obvious she was packing on the weight, but she didn't want to admit to it. I remember those times and was about that age in 1960 and there were women/girls like that. It was too shameful to admit because you would of been considered a whore. Not a career builder to be pregnant or a yound working Mom.
Elisabeth,
Congratulations on your interpretation of Peggy, a smart young lady determined to get ahead in a man’s world yet naïve enough to cause possible setbacks in her career and personal life when she becomes involved with Pete, the pregnancy, and the birth of the baby.
How long did it take the costume and make-up people to get you all padded and fattened up as you gradually gained weight? Exactly how did they do it? What did they do to fill out your cheeks and give you a double chin? Was all that padding uncomfortable? How did it affect the delivery of your lines?
Looking forward to a newly slim and stylish Peggy in June!
Elisabeth, in a series overflowing with stellar actors, you are the absolute best. If it were up to me, an Emmy would be coming your way next year.
One thing I look forward to is the reaction of others at the office when Peggy returns — slimmed down. Also want to know who, if anyone, finds out about the baby. If the show jumps forward too much, we'll miss this. Mr. Weiner, please let us wallow in the reactions. Especially Pete's. Maybe just a re-cap show of this time period, so we don't miss anything?
Hi Elizabeth,
I agree with the other comments in this section that you have done a tremendous job in the role of Peggy.
I find it very refreshing to see true acting expertise as oppossed to all the emphasis on clevage and "butts". Great to see someone succeed without having to flaunt it like so many Brirney Spears wannabes!!!
Here is my question. I just watched episode 1 for the second time during the re-runs. Having last watched you during the season finale, I couldn't help notice how much slimmer you looked at the beginning of the show ( even in you face ).
Were you required to gain a lot of weight to make your role more easily accepted by the viewing public - or was your weight gain a miracle of Hollywood make-up?
Mad Men is a really great show! Wonderful performance as Peggy!!
Elisabeth, how does it feel to be in two of the best TV series in recent history?
Is John Hamm as hot in real life as he is on the show?
Elisabeth, what do you like and dislike about the 1960s? What did you learn about them?
Are these questions ever going to get answered?
Joe,
Sorry to keep you on pins and needles. We will indeed be posting reponses from all cast members. Responses from Rich Sommer, John Slattery, and January Jones are all live already. (Click the Mad Men logo at the top of this page and then just scroll down to the appropriate post.) Answers from the rest of the cast and Matthew Weiner will be posted over the coming months. Thanks for asking!
Ms Moss,
Do you miss starring on the west wing and do you believe the character of zoe to be somewhat unresolved?
And is new orleans mon amour going to get a release in the uk?
