The New Yorker on Marriage, Sex, Repression
From The New Yorker:
"Have any states yet legalized marriage between human beings and TV shows? If so, I’m going to throw a few things in a bag and run off with “Mad Men,” the new drama on AMC set in the world of advertising at the dawn of the sixties—and encompassing New York life, and marriage, and sex, and repression, and what America was and was not. It is gorgeous in every way."

the paintings are as brilliant as the first fourteen minutes I've seen of Mad Men...re-freshingly colorful stuff! Bravo! Would like to know who the artist is!
Tedious. As though this is supposed to shcck us, I knew this one was a dog, by the all the advertising. Methinks she protests too much.
DAMN, they looked AWESOME. There were so many cute sweaters that I wanted for myself on that show!!
When I was in high school I used to imagine that if I could've picked another time to have been alive in, it would've been the 40s. I later came to realize that despite the romantic notions I had about the era, as a "minority", I would have really struggled more than I had originally imagined.
Mad Men reminded me of naivete. What I hadn't counted on was the rampant sexism. Perhaps it was embellished for the purposes of entertainment but maybe it wasn't. At any rate, while I was watching and relished in the dialogue, there were moments when I wanted to stab my ears until they bled. The things that came out of the characters' mouths... Thank God for the women's lib movement.
In the end though-- it really did make for an amazing hour of TV. Gosh I wish I could be on TV.
I have never developed a taste for tv series until Mad Men. It is wonderful, great, sexy the best ever I love it. I love Peggy's character and her boss he is happening. Looking forward for Thursdays.
I keep hearing about how accurate the series is and how Cross pen is adding some of that accuracy to the series. So how come they are using century II pens which came about later? Also the cross pen desk set they use did not come about until 1966.
WHAT IDIOT MARKETER decided to use those sexist,Macho beer ads for this show? They think only MEN are watching this??Your marketing people who place the ads for MadMen are just as much idiots as the ones in the 50's--"Only men are watching this show, trot out the female-robot with beer aparatus, and the Levitra ads!"Get another ad agency for this show, they are killing it with those f_______ advertisements.
Tedious. As though this is supposed to shcck us, I knew this one was a dog, by the all the advertising. Methinks she protests too much.
