A Variety of Mad Men

Cynthia Littleton of Variety.com gets the skinny on Matthew Weiner and Mad Men:

"Unfortunately for Matthew Weiner, he was born about 35 years too late, and as it happened, his break as a TV writer came in sitcoms, not high-end dramas. But Weiner was nevertheless determined to pursue his vision for a series that would capture all of his fascination with American culture in the finger-snapping era of Camelot and the Cuban Missile Crisis, of skinny ties and steel-tipped bras, of the Rat Pack and Sputnik."

I'd like to know what the person was thinking who included a silhouette of a man in a business suit jumping/falling from a high-rise building, knowing as he or she must have that that would evoke 9/11. As I posted on my blog, it stopped me cold from watching the show, because it sent such an incomprehensible mixed message.

As a graphic designer, I'm curious as to why the creators of the MAD MEN logo didn't stroke the "M" in "MAD", that way the title reads both "MAD MEN" and "AD MEN", which sort of enveils the theme of the show much better through type.

Just a thought...

The opening credits of the man falling from the building did almost stop me from watching the show. It brought back all my emotions of 9/11. The image combined with the falling music is very effective. Had it not been for 9/11, I would say it was a perfect opening for this show. I really enjoy the show and am trying to get past the opening image.
