Justin Zell's one-of-a-kind version of Joan Holloway was chosen by none other than Mad Men Creator (and Emmy winner) Matt Weiner and Co-Executive Producer Scott Hornbacher as the winner of the You Could Be on Mad Men Contest. Both judges viewed all eighteen finalists the week before the Emmys. Zell's video was actually one of six that the actor submitted. (He created one for each character.)
"Thank you so much. This is so awesome. I was sitting at my girlfriend's computer when I read the news. I was speechless," said Zell. "The feedback from fellow contestants, registered AMCtv.com voters, friends and family has been so positive...It's been a very inspiring experience. I truly love all the characters on Mad Men, especially Roger Sterling. My friends and I all worked collaboratively to make my videos. We even had Mad Men watching dinner parties -- to which, however, I didn't wear a dress. Mostly."
Congratulations Justin as well as the other 17 finalists. All finalists should keep an eye out in the mail for a small prize. Thanks again for being such great fans and participating in this contest.

Justin - The original! - I saw yours back in July and decided to enter - and ended up entering 5 of my own. Yours is truly the original though and should be in this group - I hope you win - it would then make sense of the contest if you did. The group of 18 here? a little perplexing I think but the contest did what it said it would and chose off of votes... man, there was some other really good ones that didn't get through. But you did... Go man Go!

Justin, your videos make me laugh everytime I view them. I'm so thrilled one of them made the finals. You are original and do what you do so well. I would love to see you on Mad Men and would be just as happy if you win. I do not think you have made a joke out of this contest, on the contrary (to what Ms. Paradiso claims), I think your submission is totally within the confines of the spirit of the contest. Goodluck to you, my fellow New Yorker and fan of Mad Men. See you on the subway. Trilby.
This is a joke to Mad Men. You made a big joke out of it. I resent it. Not good. Not a win!
Very funny and the right attitude for this contest.
Still my favorite! So glad to see it here. Heartfelt, sweet, and witty.
Dude, this is one of the funniest. Executed perfectly.
JUSTIN YOUR AWESOME!!!
Nora grow up!
FYI, cowardly and shameful Nora Paradiso is now going by the name "justwondering" with a new photo.
Hey Justin. You were one of the first people to give this contest thing a creative spin and the maverick that inspired others to think differently about their approach, and to have fun. You really got the spirit of this thing and I love what you did. Plus, you are a terrific actor, which is why you could pull this off. Praise and kudos. Good luck to you!
To my favorite Joan,
You are an absolute asset to the secretarial profession and I am delighted that you are here to join me!
I have a proposition for you in terms of a collaboration for my series of etiquette films. Please do let me know if you would be interested.... I think it would be swell to work together!
Dutifully Yours,
your fellow New Yorker
The Perfect Secretary!
Dude you rock! Can I borrow that dress?
Really like the creativity you and Trilby and Nathaniel have contributed to this contest. Not merely a replication of the characters. Great job!
Really funny, great timing! Do you do standup, Justin? You get my vote for the sheer humor!
Best of luck to you, my new New York City friend Justin! Will certainly keep an eye out for you on the A,C & E trains...and of course on the big and small screens! :)
Well, Justin looks like the champion "networker" will win...but you were my fave...so funny, creative and just downright good. Hope you have good luck in your life.
Your entry never failed to make me laugh out loud.
Cliiiifffff! I love you in Ugly Betty.
Congratulations!
Justin, You captured the essence of the contest. Congratulations! Will be looking forward to seeing you on the show.
Congratulations, Justin! So happy for you! You really deserve this win! See you on Season 3!
Trilby
CONGRATULATIONS JUSTIN!
My favorite thing about you is your voice,
what lovely dulcet tones you have! Looking
forward to what the writers put together for you.
Warm regards.
Congratulations!!!!! Well done, Justin!
As it should be. Nice work Justin and have fun!
I think your entry was a perfect match for one of the main themes of the show - that there's what's on the surface and then there's the real world underneath it all. You turned this speech on its ear and made it really fun to watch. You really delivered - great job. Hauntingly reminiscent of my second grade teacher. Bravo! ...or rather Brava!
Entirely apart from questions of humor and the proper stance vis-a-vis a contest as peculiar as this: This does show and amazing acting talent, the ability to become transparent, to act by stripping things away, completely without any false affectation, mannerisms, tics. The crystal clear voice alone is a major achievement. I so very much hope Justin will continue on the front side of the stage!
Ha. I love how Justin slipped in a mention of his girlfriend lest you question his heterosexuality. In all seriousness, though, great video. And kudos to the producers for choosing it like a good ad creative would.
Says a lot about how very far we have come. Nowadays it takes a man to play a woman to be given that big award!
....can women play men? Or is that somehow just not funny? But strange and downright threatening instead.
