Favorite "tame" horror?

On Halloween night, I will have the dubious honor of accompanying a group of marching band students on an overnight trip. The age range is from 14-18, so it's probably best that our viewing not include too much gore, plus there's the fact that many in the group belong to religious organizations which frown on gratuitous violence. I certainly don't want to be the one to corrupt them!!

I have a few titles in mind, but what are some of YOUR favorites? The schlockier, the better!

Phantasm

Does anyone desire to see the ultimate classic chiller Phantasm?
I know I do! How come no TV/Cable networks air this very creepy atmospheric moody chiller? I think is a super bloodcurdling classic? Yes, maybe a little dated for the younger audiences, but totally worth seeing.
The sequels were totally lame in my opinion but this 1979 original rocked!
Maybe you had to be 12 and a late 70's child to love this horror flick.
Does anyone feel the same way I do? Has anyone ever seen it on TV?
Thanks!
Queen of Scream xoxo

Which 39 movies would you have picked for Monster Fest, now called AMC FearFest?

OK, reviewing the 2008 Fear Fest Horror list for our 8-Day total? Nice that AMC tossed us a bone? (Yes I am trying to be nice Deb, but as far as kids they should stick with 13-Days on The Disney Channel and the Family Channel, and leave AMC to the big kids!
Here are my thoughts on this list. If I would have created this list yes I to would have had considered all our viewer pools and take all in consideration of picks. Such as, looked at the most picked, requested movies then decided and of course to be fair mixed it up a bit.

Lets start with which movies I would have pulled. This is way to easy. Lets start with Bride of Chucky, The Bride of Frankenstein, Constantine, Curse of Frankenstein, Damien: Omen II, Frankenstein Meets Space Monster, Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers, Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers, House of Dracula, House of Frankenstein, Horror of Dracula, Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday, Magic, Omen III: The Final Conflict, Survival Island, Psycho (1998, Puppet Master, Resident Evil, Return to the House on Haunted Hill, Son of Dracula, Son of Frankenstein, The She-Creature, Tales from the Crypt: Bordello of Blood, and finally Willard.

This is 25 out of 38 movies I would have pulled form this list. Only to have them replaced with the following. Lets see if you agree? I am trying to be fair and make all happy. Ok here I go.

MonsterFEST should return from the dead!!!!!

The TRUE MonsterFEST died when the Friday The 13th movies took over. I am 26 years old and I assume you stopped playing The Mummy, WolfMan, and Frankenstein because you felt like I wouldn't watch, you were WRONG! I loved it the year that Linda Blair came on and did promos. I loved it when I could watch it with my dad and we could talk about it. Now all I get on AMC is Pinata Island? I am your target demographic and I think MonsterFEST is now a joke. Bring back the classics from the 20's-70's and leave the shlock and gore for all the other channels at Halloween. If anybody agrees, we should start complaining now and see if AMC even cares what we think. I challenge AMC to do an online poll, asking whether your audience prefers the classics (20's-70's horror) or the slashers (80's-present).

How to bring back the old MonsterFest feel in 08

1.lots of classics along with newer flicks.
2.a host to guide the madness ( Corman was great).
3. a large interactive web site not just 1 page of stuff I'm talking about the old sites like the Transylvania Film Institute ( i particularly enjoyed the bowling and golf game, and Monster College Aptitude Test ).
Thats just a short list of some things i would like to see comment if u have any additions.

BEST OF THE BEST IN HORROR MOVIES!

Some of the best horror movies I've ever seen follow...
Salem's Lot - tops the list
Nosferatu - old, but freaky
Brahm Stoker's Dracula - somewhat hideous
Night Breed - Most entertaining

Later on, I'll come up with round 2, but these are by far some of the best I've ever watched.

Horror Remakes: Ever a Good Decision?

As production continues on the Nightmare on Elm Street remake and more and more casting news surfaces for the upcoming Friday the 13th remake, I find myself becoming increasingly agitated, perhaps even anxious. It's not that I am inherently opposed to remakes -- I am in fact typically very much in favor of reimagining stories to make them relevant for a new generation. But then I think about Rob Zombie's Halloween; I think about Jessica Biel's Texas Chainsaw Massacre; I think about Paris Hilton's House of Wax, and I have to ask: is remaking horror ever a good decision?

I would have to answer with a reserved no. I say reserved because there are some cross-genre remakes like Invasion of the Body Snatchers and The Fly whose updates were at least as successful if not better than the original. But because these films also share roots with Science Fiction, I cannot unabashedly put them in the "Win" column for horror. And aside from these horror/scifi hybrids, I can't think of a single great remake.

I think perhaps this is because unlike most other genres of film, horrors are essentially timeless. The motivations for Jason attacking the camp counselors, for example, will stay relevant as long as the human race continues to engage in recreational sex -- and I don't see that changing any time soon. There is really no need to update the visuals because, let's face it, we nailed blood and gore a long time ago, and so reinvention becomes at best a scheme to earn a quick buck without having to be original.

Can you guys think of any successful horror remakes? Are there any upcoming remakes you're looking forward to? Is there any way to successfully remake a horror classic?

Who's Your Favorite Horror Villain?

Who's your favorite sicko, psycho, crazy, killer, stalker, hunter, ghost, ghoul, undead, zombie, vampire or freak?

I have to go with Zelda from Pet Semetary.

She's not in the movie for long, but man are you glad to see her go.

Who's Your Favorite Vampiress?

This is a sad week for the undead as we learned of the death of Maila Nurmi (a.k.a. Vampira). Afterwards, we took a moment to give her a proper YouTube retrospective.

And then we realized the only way to properly honor Vampira would be to pay heed to her legacy, her successors, her sisters in bloodsucking. You've already decided which vampire movie is your favorite, now pick Dracula's Bride:
