Like many others have commented, I too look forward to getting immersed in the "monster lore" during Halloween week and Monsterfest, now Fearfest garnered alot of my classic horror movie viewing.
Unlike many of my contemporaries, I would rather watch the "classics' such as the original Dracula, Frankenstein, Wolfman, Creature from the Black Lagoon and later movies staring these very same tried and true monster villians as opposed to the talentless slasher movies where acting is absent and blood & gore rule.
I even value the large insect, lizard and animal genre B movies over the slashers. This yr, I even enjoyed those free down load B horror flicks over the constant replaying of many of the more modern flicks shown this yr.
I would recommend to start the week off with tthe oldest classic flicks and work them up to the more modern flicks at Halloween. Cut back on the replays and give us more of them corney B rated horror flicks. Sometimes theres jewels lurking in those B's.
Looking forward to next yr.

Every year i look forward to the week of horror films on AMC. I'm not gonna go off on a rant cause it has pretty much been said in another post , but this years films were lame. It seemed like every time i turned to the channel it was the same film from the night before...i.e "house on hanuted hill", or it's lame sequel. I am curious as to why they dont mix up the films..i mean you have stuff on at 2-3-4am that would be a change from the same old repeated films from the night or day before. I'd take a "Halloween 3" before another tired showing of parts 4-5, and wheres "Halloween 2"...again missing from the line up. Last but not least...enough with the ads at the bottom left of the screen telling everyone that MADMEN is on...ok, we get it...we dont need it shoved down our faces after every commercial break.

I am a fan of AMC, don't get me wrong. But Fearfest seems to have gone downhill every year. I miss the old days of Monsterfest, or when there was someone working to give the horror fans what they really wanted for Halloween. I feel more tricked than treated; tricked into looking forward all year long to a disappointing Fearfest. Where are the classics? An American Werewolf in London (1981), The Fog (1980), The Exorcist (1973), Black Christmas (1974), Rosemary's Baby (1968), The Omen (1976), Fright Night (1985), Carrie (1976), Poltergeist (1982), etc. If you were going to show some new films, I wouldn't mind seeing the Resident Evil film series, Dawn of the Dead (2004), The Hills Have Eyes (2006), or The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003). I wouldn't even mind going back to some of the grimy slasher films like My Bloody Valentine (1981) or Sleepaway Camp (1983). And where is Them! (1954) or the Thing From Another World (1951)?
I am a fan of the originals, like Halloween (1978), Nightmare on Elm Street (1984), and Friday the 13th (1980), but AMC plays them at odd hours of the night or opt to show one of the lesser sequels or spin offs. Why is it that when classics, like Psycho, are played it is at 1 AM, and it's the crappy Gus Van Sant 1998 version? Piñata: Survival Island? Really?!?! Buffy the Vampire Slayer? End of Days? Wolf, King Kong, and Sabretooth? Not really scary or fun.
I do commend them for bringing back The Return of the Living Dead (1985), it was a fun movie from my childhood, and for trying The Shinning (1980). There are a lot of other interesting Stephen King Films that could be played, like The Mist (2007), It (1990), and Silver Bullet (1985). I also think the additions of Thir13ten Ghosts (2001), Night of the Living Dead (1968), House on Haunted Hill (1999) and the Alien films is good. I wish the Aliens films didn't replay all weekend though. The Halloween films are nice too, though I think the schedule overuses them as well.
What is it with replaying the same films all week? Where is the variety?
Every year I plan to spend the week before Halloween carving pumpkins, eating Halloween candy, going to costume parties, and most importantly...having AMC playing on the TV 24/7. Next year I might not be such a faithful viewer.
In fact I think the worst thing that could happen has: apathy has set in. That is a shame, but understandable due to AMC's lack of thought and effort put into this sad horror marathon. I supportedt Monsterfest for years and looked forward to it always. I even have to say ho-hum to this Fearfest. I had hoped that they would look at what people were saying and do their best to satisfy horror fans, but alas, they didn't. If they wanted to make this a success they could. In fact I believe this will be a big ratings bomb. Maybe then they will get the message. They should look at my previous post and that movie lineup. It was a success in 2000 and I believe it would be one now. Well I am going to watch it tonight and throughout theweek. How much? I don't know.

IDK...does anyone see a sequel...cult classic status...Sam being an iconic horror figure in the future...any thoughts???

I myself can watch the standard classics, such as Friday the 13th 1 & 2, Carrie, The Omen, The Exorcist (1st one!) etc etc..., over and over again. Now these are Halloween movies and should be seen. It's only once a year and watching these thru-October just makes it much more fun and enjoyable.
15 movies are worth seeing out of the AMC list and I was being generous!
Also, keep in mind; they will be airing the same movies, over and over and over again!
And, what is up with Piñata Island???!!! Yikes!

I was just pondering through the archives from the "Horror Hacker" blog, and I stumbled upon the first introduction of Fear Fest '08. After reading all of the comments, it seems that the general consensus was that people were sad to see a decline in classic horror films - which were replaced with Keanu Reeves, 'Resident Evil', etc., but also, we were afraid to bite the hand that feeds.

Obviously, the people at AMC are saints for the respect and love they have for us horror freaks by bringing us the horror-thons every year, but a lot of people feel, (to use a quote from RayFinkle), "tha AMC has strayed from their roots."

So, the saints at AMC, we love you for always keeping us in mind- you really rock- but take this as one of those comment cards that they leave on the tables for you to fill out at McDonalds- we miss the originality of MonsterFest. We love the old films. We love that you're trying new things to keep us watching, but we want that old feeling of, "...I smell leaves in the air... It's getting chilly... Oh yeah, and I'm super stoked to read the MonsterFest line up" that we used to have around this time of year.

Thank you on behalf of us horror freaks.
