I guess the schedule is a little bit better than last year.. But what the heck is up with all of the alien movies? Im not sure, but I dont think those are halloween movies, and I dont think that anyone honestly wants to watch all 4 of those in a row. Where are the Friday The 13th's? Where are the Nightmare On Elm Streets? They could at least add those in, (only the 1st ones). Are they honestly reading anything that we bolg about? After all of the complaints, you would think that they would take the hint that they need less crappy movies.. Anyone else agree?
That list almost reads like AMC snatched up a bunch of public domain films at the last second. But hey, my beef lies with the never ending saga that is....
Pinata: Survival Island.....
Someone get me the name of the individual(s) who owns the rights to this film so I can go purchase it from said person(s). This way I can make sure no one ever has to view this garbage of a film on network television again.
Sure, one can make the arguement that you should just change the channel if you don't like a certain film, but this particular film really gets under my skin.... it's just a piece of s***. I would really like to see what the ratings are whenever "Pinata" is playing. I'd be shocked if more than 10 people were watching it.
Most of the movies on the list are the movies they play for Fear Friday every week. Some of them are good and I would agree that the lineup is slightly better than last year, but you would think that they would take into account all of the suggestions we have given them. What about the rest of the Halloween movies, especially number 3? Why not the first Exorcist, the first Child's Play, or the original Omen?
Does anyone know if there are going to be more movies added to the lineup, or is this the final draft? Where did you find the lineup? I have been looking everywhere for it, but i can't seem to track it down.
I agree with you King Malice, Pinata: Survival Island is one of the worst movies ever made. And I love my share of bad horror flicks.
The bad thing is that they chose Psycho(1998) over the original. Mostly every horror fan hates the Psycho remake. That's now more an "American Movie Classic" than the over spammed Catwoman. While I would say the first two Alien movies would be fine, Alien 3 and Resurrection, nah.
And yeah, a lot of those movies aren't specifically going to be special for Halloween, cause they show them all the time on this channel. King Kong(1976), for instance, has been playing on this channel for MANY months.
And of course, there are the horrible modern movies like Sabertooth, and the ever infamous Pinata: Survival Island. I don't know, it's just me, but most horror movies post 1997 should be left off this list, IMO. Leave those for SyFy channel or the paid movie channels. Well, maybe JUST SyFy channel(I don't think the paid movie channels like HBO or Showtime have halloween horror movie specials like they did back in the 80s.). Hell, most of those modern horror flicks DO get played on SyFy.
What is with all the remakes? It's the same mess they had last year. you wait all year long with hope that this is the year that's going to be the best. That this year they take fearfest more serious for the fans. They ought to know by now that they have a large fanbase. You know I read( I think it was last years) , someones blog and they said basically to stop complaining that amc could stop all together and do away with fearfest. WELL THAT WOULD BE FINE BY ME.
There's a few decent movies in there but why show the backstories and movies that shook the world and not show the movie? That makes absolutely no sense at all.
After looking over the list again I would have to say with the exception of 5 or 6 films, this list is pretty lame. A lot of really bad films here.
Up until this year I agreed with the comments going around about how we need to support AMC and quit complaining or else they would remove MonsterFest... Well, last year they buried the legend that was MonsterFest and begun anew with a Hot Topic-esque brand called FearFest.
FearFest '08 was terrible, right down to the final day when AMC showed a pour selection of films laughably called the *Elite 8*. FearFest '09 makes last year look like the glory days of MonsterFest and thats just sad, very sad. And the television networks wonder why they are being slapped around by the highly sucessful digital outlets.
Buy a clue and realize its time to stop purchasing crap films and throwing all of your efforts into selling ad space, because this time next year when all of your advertisers see that your ratings are down there won't be any advertising dollars coming in. Seems to me that AMC has sold their soul to the devil that is "MAD MEN".
A hit TV series only lasts so long, but CLASSIC films live on forever. By no means are films like "Pinata: Survival Island", "Alien: Ressurection", the 1998 remake of "Psycho" or "Return to House on Haunted Hill" considered classics.
Well,
Looks like I will be skipping AMC again. The Frighteners is my Pinata: Survival Island. Thank god I have been amassing my own horror DVDs over the year, so I won't be at AMC's mercy. I'd rather watch a classic like White Zombie over Alien IV any day of the week.
Hello everyone. Last year I appeared as Breck81.
I'm back to say that this will be my last entry at AMC unless something changes.
I'm sick of ranting and raving about a Monster Marathon that it does me no good to complain about.
It's obvious that AMC is riding a wave of success with "Mad Men" and "Breaking Bad" and could care less about monster fans at Halloween time. All they care about is what they want.
Fans do not matter anymore unless they are the
"Mad Men" and "Breaking Bad" fans, but truthfully, AMC has taken the brunt of the complaints because they were the only ones who ever truly had a Monster Movie marathon before they killed it, and maybe viewership was too low to satisfy them and so they tried a new strategy. I just don't know. At this point, I think all Monster Movie fans can do is start buying DVD's of the movies they love and watch them throughout the month. It's obvious AMC no longer cares about us as the Monster Fest marathon name did not return despite massive demand for it.
And once again if you check the schedule, you will find that Fear Fest will be interrupted just like last year for their baby "Mad Men".
Goodbye AMC. You did not try hard enough and did not open your ears or if you did open your ears, you were not listening. But Que Sera Sera. You are not the only one who fails to provide great Halloween movies, you are just where everyone seems to turn at Halloween time, but nowadays you fail to deliver. Kudos to you though for not abandoning the Halloween Genre altogether. And RIP Monster Fest. The Greatest Movie Marathon ever.
I am a huge traditionalist and it pained me last year when AMC dumped Monsterfest. I was hoping from the big backlash that they would change back, but when I went on the site today my hopes were dashed again. No change. I looked at the lineup and hopes dashed again.......Pinata ?....King Kong ?....Buffy ?....13 Ghosts ? Raising Cain ?
AMC has choked the chicken again. Time for a boycott !!!
Is is really that difficult to cater to their loyal fans of Monsterfest for 10 days in October ?
I can't believe noone has mentioned the lack of Hammer Horror!!!! Peter Cushing? Christopher Lee?
The Abominable Snowman of the Himalayas
The Hound of the Baskervilles
The Horror of Dracula
The Curse of Frankenstein
The Gorgon
Curse of the Werewolf
Etc
Etc
Etc
No Universal Horror?
Jeez. What a joke. Why not start a fan recommended movie poll and let the viewers decide what is shown for MONSTERFEST?!
Very disappointed with AMC.
Wow.. I guess AMC hates us all because I havent heard one good thing about last year or this years 'Fearfest', and that makes me wonder if they care about any of the fans that (did) enjoy this event. We all have been blogging about how much we hate this now.. but nothing has changed at all. I think its time we all "boycott" this event. We should not tune in at all for any of this marathon. Im choosing to do what everyone else recommends and collect my own classic DVD's. Im out!
All I have to say is this.. I will NOT be watching this year!! Very sad and disappointed!
I will stick with TCM and Scfi…. Shame on YOU AMC!
What were you thinking???? Bad bad bad bad and more bad picks! Do you need help next year in this department? I will be happy to come work for you to pull in better moves and ratings!
Me again… Basically all AMC did was too air the very same movies they have been airing all season long along with Fear Friday. Not very original and caring to your loyal Fear Fest/Monster Fest Viewers!
I myself can watch the standard classics, such as Friday the 13th 1 & 2, Carrie, The Omen, The Exorcist (1st one!) etc etc…, over and over again. Now these are Halloween movies and should be seen. It’s only once a year and watching these thru-October just makes it much more fun and enjoyable.
15 movies… This is all worth seeing, and I was being generous!!!
Oh, don’t forget they repeat the same ones over, and over and over again
October 31st is a decent showing I guess. Don't understand the need for showing "Night of the Living Dead" three times in a row, but I guess that's just how the cookie crumbled when AMC killed MonsterFest.
NOTLD is a true classic film and has its place on Halloween night, but showing it three times in a row is weak. If you don't want to spend money on film rights, then you could've thrown in some of the decent public domain films... play NOTLD then show something like "The Giant Gilla Monster".
Last year FearFest catered to the more mainstream horror fan, but this year... oh, whatever. Paying for satellite TV just seems pointless anymore. Especially since DishNetwork dumped Monsters HD and AMC decided to turn its back on the most sucessful television marathon ever. AMC will regret the day they killed the beast that was MonsterFest.
P.S. WTF is "End of Days" playing during Halloween for?
Just popped on to check out the lineup this year. Not that great, probably a tad better than last year, but not terrible. I'd list a decent amount of those movies as "Great Classics to Enjoyable Guilty Pleasures":
"Alien" (1979)
"Aliens" (1986)
"The Amityville Horror" (1979)
"The Beast Must Die" (1974)
"Bride of Chucky" (1998)
"Buffy the Vampire Slayer" (1992)
"Earth vs. the Spider" (1958)
"The Fly" (1958)
"The Frighteners" (1996)
"Halloween" (1978)
"Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers" (1988)
"House on Haunted Hill" (1999)
"The Innocents" (1961)
"Night of the Living Dead" (1968)
"Puppetmaster" (1989)
"The Return of the Living Dead" (1985)
"The She-Creature" (1956)
"The Shining" (1980)
"Young Frankenstein" (1974)
Not too bad, the others are either decent-at best or horrible to say the least. I had kind of a bad feeling about this year after Fear Friday was pretty rough this year and it has usually been an indication of what movies they will show. I can't say I know what the deal is. I know in the past they used to read the OLD, OOOLLDDD message boards and actually react to what we said, but I am not sure if that's so anymore. I feel there has been a change in the network since their series took off, akin to the change at TNT a la' the canning of Monsterfest after the AOL/TW merger. My counterargument from last year still stands, however, in that this network is no longer a CLASSIC movie network, nor has it been for years, so any arguments for classic movies is null and void, and due to the shift in programming a wider variety of movies is needed in their eyes to not totally turn off their usual audience while still keeping horror fans around. It's sad, and it's not MY desire, but that must be understood. Of course, I don't think anyone here wants to at least respect the good movies that will be shown or the fact that a channel like AMC gives us a FearFest at all. It's still better than SciFi's terrible "marathon" where they show B movie Direct to Video junk and Ghost Hunter episodes, or any other channel that shows just a few movies all month, but people would rather post hyperbolic rants about how terrible it is. It definitely isn't the best Monsterfest/FearFest we've had, and my viewing of AMC has gone down dramatically over the past year, but I'll take what I can get and enjoy those movies I listed above and see what other channels have to offer. I'm sure there will be plenty elsewhere. Heck, Friday the 13th was on Spike this morning. All is not lost.
OK, I take back what I said about SyFy, for THIS year at least. They still have a lot of crappy DTV movies and Ghost Hunter/Scare Tactics episodes, but they have definitely stepped up their game a little bit this year. I highly recommend any fans of new-school horror check them out, they have a decent selection running all month this month.
I have been "paying attention" to AMC's MonsterFest (now FearFest) for the last 10 years (i think its been 10 years), and it has grown increasingly pathetic. IT used to be MUCH better because they weren't afraid to show older and and obscurer films (anyone ever remember seeing Spanish Dracula?).
Now it seems all they do is roll out what they did the year before, and revamp a little.....but after seeing this years lineup it was all i could do to stifle a yawn. When is AMC going to get back to showing ALL the classics.....all the "B-Movies".....and improve their listings for this event. I look forward to this every year, and I am continuously disappointed in their lack of creativity and vision...
Anyone have nominations for what they SHOULD be showing?
I myself will be watching A Nightmare On Elm Street. Not many interesting films listed above.
