The Pookipsie Tapes

Hey All!!! First time blogger long time lover of horror movies. Does ANYONE know when The Pookipsie Tapes is coming to DVD. Also Trick R Treat (NOT Trick or Treat the 1980's one)

Bring Back AMC Monsterfest!

I haven't sifted through the pages of the 'talk board' yet to see if anyone else had discussed this, but I just want to get this out so badly! BRING BACK AMC MONSTERFEST THIS YEAR! I say that because Monsterfest was so dear to me... let me shed some light.

In January, during my junior year of high school, a friend would always try to get me to watch old movies. I was lame and judgmental at 16 and didn't know the value of classic movies, so I figured they were all cheesy and outdated. Then they showed me the 1968 classic, "Night of the Living Dead." My world was changed. I was exposed to such an interesting, expression provoking film. The scene where Bill Hinzman bangs on the window of 'Barbra's car was the most frightening thing I had ever scene at the time. Also, it made me want to become a director. It looked so simple, but has since ignited one of the most intense reactions out of me.

I was riding on my horror film highr. I researched, rented, blogged, Wikipedia'd, IMDB'd... I wanted to know as much as I could! I had seen most of the greats like Psycho and Dawn of the Dead... I also stared learning about exploitation films and tried to watch as many as I could. This was the year 'Grindhouse' came out, and I felt I was being celebrated as a fan (even though I was a newbie) and the originality between this double feature and every other movie that had been released made it so great and interesting.

Later that year, AMC was playing 'Halloween' one night - I was hooked. It grabbed me and took me back to my childhood and did it's job as a horror film. Then as I looked through the TV guide I noticed that this was the beginning of multi-day marathon! The commercial bumpers and website clued me in and I didn't want to stop watching. I was a high school senior now at this point who didn't want to go to school- they just wanted to keep watching! This was AMC Monsterfest and I was telling everyone that I could to tune in. I still re-watch the commercials from the marathon on Youtube just to relive the feeling I had when my mind was expanded. The big point for me that made me realize "Alright, Mark... you've gone crazy" was when I set my alarm for 4am to watch 'Frankenstein Meets The Space Monster" the morning of a first-block test. I think watching this movie was more of an energy booster than any amount of sleep could have been. I felt like part of a secret thing. There was no host- the only voices were from the online community who were entranced as me. Monsterfest had so much originality and played a big part in the things I love and am obsessed about today. I miss it so much and would do anything to have that feeling again.

Last year, around October- my favorite month- I was so excited for the return of Monsterfest, only to find out that it was no more. We were given Fearfest with Rob Zombie as a host. I always liked Rob Zombie- hell, my dad would play White Zombie back in the day when I was a kid, but the feeling wasn't the same. This seemed like every other fear-movie marathon institution. The originality was gone.

I still watch the commercials on Youtube from Monstefest 2007 to relive that feeling of mind expansion and seeing the coolest thing ever. I wish it would come back this year.

Thank you for reading,
and I hope this is considered.
