My Thoughts on "AMC Fearfest" 2008 ,to AMC and the viewers...

First, I would like to thank AMC for putting on another horror movie marathon. To my knowledge, AMC is the only station to do so, and for that I am thankful. It's so great to have a week or longer of horror movies around Halloween, and I would hate for it to ever be taken away, or disappear.

I totally understand that AMC doesn't have the budget to get all of the most popular horror movies. I realize that at least half need to be on the more affordable side, and to be honest, many of the coolest horror movies are the ones that are not as popular as their counterparts.

This year I'm really glad that AMC took many of the fans advice from years previous, and provided a host. I'm not sure Rob Zombie was the best for the job, but he was certainly better than no host at all. Hopefully next year, you will get someone a little more eccentric. Think Roddy McDowall in fright night. The great vampire killer. That type of personality. I'm not putting down Rob at all, I just think his movies are terrible, he ruined Halloween (1978) with his reproduction, and his boring personality did not provide much in my opinion, as a host.

Changing the name from "Monsterfest" To "Fearfest" seems really unnecessary. Monsterfest was a perfectly adequate name, that people really came to love, and I am sure you're aware that many people are upset about the change. Bringing back the Monsterfest name next year would be a GREAT start!

I had not seen Willard previously, and it was a VERY nice surprise. I wasn't expecting it to be very good, but it was fantastic! I would have to say, it was one of my favorite films this year, along with: A nightmare on elm street, Christine, the Halloween movies, and some of the older movies like Dracula, The wolf-man meets frankenstein, etc. I realize you guys at AMC have a difficult task, trying to please all the fans, and never seeming to do so. I applaud your efforts despite all the fans complaining every year. Even in a year like Monsterfest X, when seemingly ALL the great horror movies were being shown, people did nothing but complain, and that's very sad.

At this point, I would just like to offer my opinions on what I would like to see, if it matters to anyone at all:

first, I would like to see the name changed back to "Monsterfest".

Second, I'd like to see the marathon extended from 7, to 10 or more days.

Third, If there is a host, think Roddy McDowall from Fright Night (obviously not him exactly, as he passed away). Someone whose eccentric, but relevant to horror movies.

Fourth, I'd like to see the movies, without the extensive advertising during the movies. The first night with the halloween movies, was partially ruined because of all the "Mad men" ads, taking up 1/5 of the screen. Please, I beg of you, don't do that. If anything, it makes people despise "Mad men" for interfering with what they were watching.

Here is a list of a few movies I'd like to see on Monsterfest next year, if it's possible:

Halloween (1978) plus Backstory and DVD_TV
Halloween II
Halloween III
Children of the corn (80's)
The Frightners
Willard (loved it, bring it back!)
Wolfen
The Fly (1986)
Fright Night
Fright night II
The Exorcist
The Exorcist III (the Exorcist II is terrible, but 1 and 3 are great!)
The Beast must die
Near Dark
Night of the living dead (1990)
Magic
Pet Semetary II
Motel Hell
The Thing (both the older and 80's versions would be great)

These are just some of the movies I'd love to see, most of them I have seen on Monsterfest before. Obviously everyone will have a different list, thus, all the complaining.

Here are a list of movies I hope you will toss into oblivion, NEVER to be seen on Monsterfest (or fearfest) again:

Resident Evil
Constantine
Piñata: Survival Island
House on haunted hill
Return to House on Haunted hill
Jason Goes to Hell
Psycho (1998)
Panic room
And playing your series "Mad men" during the Horror marathon.

Well, that's all I can think of for now. I hope this doesn't sound too critical. I really love Monsterfest and I hope you keep the tradition alive for many years to come. Thank you very much for another great year! I don't watch AMC much all year, but when Monsterfest comes on, I watch it 24/7.

Thanks again,

viewer

Oh, and one thing I forgot to add, on Halloween, PLEASE during the trick or treating hours show Halloween series films. It's the only thing that makes sense, like you have done previously. Thanks again!

Yeah yeah yeah, whatever? Ok thanks AMC for tossing us a bone and giving us what 8-days of what I would call lame horror movies. Thank God for Fuse TV, TCM, SCFI, and Bravo and many others, which played GREAT classic horror movies! Now come on people we have seen The Omen, The Exorcist, Friday the 13th many times on AMC during the year, so why they choose not to air these I have no clue? Then Halloween night NO Halloween 1 & 2 movies? Good Lord! That’s like not airing The Ten Commandments at Easter?
I am sorry to be so critical but don’t you think this is why AMC has a Blog to get the opinion of their viewers. We are allowed to Bitch and complain! Hey we our paying for cable to watch AMC!
One person wrote that we should stop our Bitching because AMC may pull the plug. Please!
You are never ever going to make Fear Fest perfect but there is always room for improvement. This is why we Blog! Also, as I stating in the beginning of this email there are plenty of other networks which rocked this Halloween. I didn’t even watch AMC on Halloween and I had the day off for a party.
On another note why couldn’t AMC go all the way thru-Sunday with horror since Halloween fell on a Friday? Plenty of people would have still watched thru Sunday… I know this for a fact.
In the end, I do thank AMC for giving us Fear Fest. I have no issue with the name change. A matter of fact I sort of dig it. I do look forward to this each and every year and yes I do surf, scan and alarm. BUT, there is always room for improvement.
Thank you!
To Next Year My Sweets xoxo

I'm glad they played a variety of the Halloween films...there really are no other horror flicks that are more appropriate or get you in the mood. Halloween is the grandaddy of all. But I could have done without Halloween 6, yikes was that awful...wasn't there an alternate version of Halloween 6?? That would have been cool to air, cuz I haven't seen it. But I don't think that version is actually a legal release, just a bootleg. Um, I'm just bitching and moaning to myself. I look forward to next year's FearFest!

Just a suggestion...introduce these horror kids to foreign horror, which is probably the best ever...Argento's Suspiria to start with!

I think these should have been on. (Only a list of a few...)
House on Haunted Hill (Original)
Halloween
Halloween II
Halloween III
Nosferatu
Dracula (1931)
The Thing (Original)
Frankenstein (1930's)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Then I say they sould do an uncut marathon after midnight with:
The Horror of Dracula
Bram Stoker's Dracula
A Nightmare on Elm Street
Friday the 13th
And so on and so on....
I COMPLETELY AGREE with your opinions on the name change. "Monsterfest" was a pivotal event in my growing up. I am totally in love with the horror genre, exploitation films, and the entertainment and heart that these films are about. Films like "Halloween", "The Birds", and even "Frankenstein Meets The Space Monster"- I would wake up at 4am to watch. Monsterfest was such an "oh my god" thing, and I couldn't wait for it to come again last October- I couldn't wait for the commercials, the new downloadable backgrounds, the line-up, pulling all nighters- but then one day I see, "Fear Fest" hosted by Rob Zombie. I mean, I LOVE Rob- but the host concept made it feel like it was more commercialized and less special. With Monsterfest, there were no hosts, there was no one talking to you- it was your own voyeristic journey that made you think. And the name change... Fear Fest. It sounds like everything else- like FearNet, and all those local haunted hayrides- but Monsterfest- ahh, it was that cheesyness mixed with an ominous vibe that made it special. I really hope we get back to the basics this year!
And hell YEAH, Nosferatu!
I disagree about the host. I suggested it for many years and so did many other people, so it shows AMC was listening. Now Rob Zombie wasn't the right guy for hosting, because he's not charismatic in the least, and although he is passionate about horror movies, he doesn't display it as a host. Think "The great vampire killer" Peter Vincent- Roddy Macdowell's character from Fright Night. We need that type of personality, you know, something similar. I can't wait until October. It's the ONLY time I watch AMC, unless they play horror movies the rest of the year.
