The Visual Effects Society has announced its nominees for the 11th annual Visual Effects Society Awards, and Hell on Wheels was honored with two nominations for Supporting Visual Effects in a Broadcast Program and Compositing in a Broadcast Program, both for Season 2 Episode 9, "Blood Moon." The VES Awards recognizes and honors the most outstanding visual effects work of the year and honors the artists who created them.

For the Supporting Visual Effects award, Hell on Wheels faces stiff competition: HBO's Boardwalk Empire and Hemingway & Gellhorn, CBS' Hawaii Five-0, and History's Men Who Built America are also nominated.

Hell on Wheels is up against formidable competitors for the Compositing award as well, facing HBO's Game of Thrones (White Walker Army) and Hemingway & Gellhorn, and ABC's Last Resort.

The 11th Annual VES Awards will take place on Tue., Feb. 5 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
