AMC does, indead, present a pile of flicks with wonderful story lines, and often in HD. I'm a hardcore movie buff and have seen many of the older films AMC shows already, and have many on DVD or (older) VHS recordings. I'm watching the original (1953) version of "War of the Worlds" as I write this. The movie is great. A true SciFi camp piece. AMC makes it suck with all the damned captioning at the bottom of the screen.

Bad enough is the stupid AMC logo caption at almost bottom right. Wose are the pernacious ads for upcoming features at almost lower left. Worst are when the the latter blow up and get animated to occupy in an annoying way the left bottom quadrant of the screen.

If AMC would stop the sh*t described above, I might drop my subscriptions to premium moview channels such as HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, Starz, etc.

AMC does make good decisions about what films it airs. Too bad it messes up big-time on presentation!

Can anyone please tell me the name of a movie that has the following plot. During either world war I or world war II, a young pilot had an affair with a woman right before he went to war. They planned to marry but he was killed, and she found out she was pregnant. She had the baby in secret and put it up for adoption to avoid scandal and protect the child. In one of the final scenes of the picture, she meets her fully grown son (who I belive was also now in the military). She wanted to much to tell him that she was his mother but was afraid to, but finally the guy put two and two together and realized that this woman who had been so close to him all his life was actually his mother. Great tear jerker and a great happy ending.

Is it just me or is anyone else tired of having the movie they're watching disrupted with banners that are displayed along the bottom of the screen. Right when the movie is getting interesting along the bottom of my 46 inch HDTV screen pops up a "Mad Men advertisement". A couple minutes later another distraction, "Next on AMC" pops up. I'm not just talking about a small portion of the screen mind you, but at least 1/4 of the screen is taken up with text and pictures. Then a little while later the irritating AMC HD icon at the bottom right become "Fear Fest '09". Good GOD why not let us just watch the freakin movie and advertise upcoming AMC events during the commercials. Or better yet why not display these irritating banners during the commercials? I've gotten to the point where I've started to change channels just to get away from this madness.
