The Graduate on AMC
I just saw part of the Graduate on AMC. It was shown the "DVD" way, i.e. with non-stop text, comments and information provided in a box at the bottom of the screen, while the movie played. What an utterly ridiculous thing! This totally undermines the movie experience, it interferes, you can't focus on the movie. Who came up with this idiocy? I sure hope AMC doesn't do this a lot, because the Osborne show is a good one. We watch him and his movies several times week. But please, don't ruin your excellent movies with this text non-stop text garbage at the bottom of the screen!

What a shame and what a disappointment: AMC has decided to broadcast a fantastic film, but that constant display of 'popups' on the lower part of the screen with completely moronic and worthless information is most distracting. A great movie like this deserves to be shown without the crap plastered on the screen. What a shame.
Shame on you AMC. Shame on you.
Thanks tom kando and j grant for your input -- I will pass along your suggestions to the appropriate people.
AMC, you could have not done a worse presentation of this movie on Thursday evening. The audio was atrocious - I may not have the best ears - but has the soundtrack gone to hell over the past 41 years? Did you use a bad print? But the worst part was the trivia that appeared under the running movie and was a major distraction in following the action and plot. AMC could not get a knowledgeable commentator to speak for 5 or 10 minutes before the movie started? I gave up after 70 minutes - I had a headache. It would have been nice to find out how the plot played out. Sign me out, AMC. I'm going to another channel.
I was amazed at the comments above about the the pop up information. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed watching the movie this way. We have both seen The Graduate many times, and we found the trivia great. Robert Osbourne is super, but having the real-time feedback (such as about the raincoat that Katharine Ross was wearing in one scene) made the movie experience that much better. Keep this up AMC! We look forward to other movies in this format. By the way, how can we tell in the movie listings which movies are in this format?
