My Favorite Musical

I don't know why Hollywood doesn't make more musicals nowadays. Sweeney Todd was good, but the only other one that I know of that came out last year was Across the Universe, which a friend of mine saw and said wasn't very good. My personal favorite is actually the Steve Martin vehicle Pennies From Heaven. I know it's all lip-synching but the songs are great and the dance routines are super.

The Irish musical "Once" came out last year, and was really terrific. Great songs, great story, I highly recommend it.

The Music Man is the best. All the songs are bearable, unlike most musicals that have 1 or 2 good songs and the rest just seem too contrived. My Fair Lady, is also on the top 5, of course. Rent and Hello Dolly are at the top of the annoying list. Cant's stand Barbara Streisand.

How about Newsies? Love that one, plus you get to see Christian Bale before he went all American Psycho--not that there's anything wrong with that, just love to look back at actors in movies before their breakout or pivotal roles.

My first ever movie in a theatre, The Sound of Music!!!! Great music, compelling story, good all-around sing-a-long. Other favorite, South Pacific, West Side Story and Fame. Overall, I enjoyed Rodgers and Hammerstien over Lerner and Lowe pieces.

I actually love "The Sound of Music" too. That one and "Cabaret" are probably my favorites as far as the old musicals go. I kind of like "Call Me Madam" as well.
