The answer about whether the reverend gets struck by lighting is incorrect. This is one of the few flaws in the movie where they filmed the same hole twice. When the rain really starts coming down, the reverend finishes the ninth hole and says, "In theory I could set the course record" and then he asks Carl what he thinks. Carl is holding the flag for the ninth hole. Carl then says his famous line "I'd keep playing, I don't think the really hard stuff is going come down for some time." When the reverend is struck by lighting Carl is holding the flag. So the answer should be that the reverend played 18 holes, but played the same nine holes twice.
