Ultimate Fan Quiz - Stephen King Results
The Ultimate Stephen King Fan: Jennifer Ross
Hometown: Kyle, Texas
Age: 35
Profession: Project Manager in the Tech Industry
There are only two things that scare Jennifer Ross: Spiders, and clowns. So naturally, one of her favorite Stephen King movies is IT. "Tim Curry's portrayal of Pennywise was magnificently terrifying," she says, "and for most people I know, including myself, created some sufficient nightmares." Ross says that what attracts her to King's movies is the author's ability to create such rich characters and environments, especially in dealing with the theme of isolation. "The Shining, Misery, the idea of total isolation, of that moment when reality and fantasy blur and you don't know what's real anymore, that always gets me, " she says. Though she claims never to have done anything fan obsessive towards King, Ross says she is always first in line for his newest book or film adaptation, and admits that his work would make her think twice about going on a secluded trip in the woods. "I think there are moments in all our lives where we feel like we are trapped in some surreal place or surrounded by crazy people," Ross explains. "Fortunately we don't have to battle demon clowns before we go home."

Congratulations, Ms Ross! The following statements are in no way "sour grapes". Please don't hold it against me, but I'm not even that fond of Jack Nicholson. While I am a fan of King's, I am in no way obsessive. As a high-school English teacher, I hold and share with my students a love/need for accurate information. Since I have never taken the opportunity to read or watch The Shining, I am humbled by the knowledge of the winner. However, I did watch and record Christine on the first night of the contest. I listened carefully to Dennis trying to talk Arnie out of buying the car. Dennis explained to Arnie that the car was almost 100,000 miles. I also noticed that the car's odometer had five spaces for completed miles with one space for the tenths of miles. I watched and paused the destruction of Christine several times to verify my answer: the odometer actually read 00000.1 miles. When that information is coupled with Dennis' previous statements, then the miles "on the odometer when the possessed car is destroyed" is actually 100,000.1 or visually 00000.1. As long as I'm being retentive, and based on previous site comments I'm not alone, please check the spelling on #15: King titled his book Pet Sematary. I am far more interested in getting correct answers than winning any prize, so please clarify my confusion (via movie scene or book page). Thanks for the help!
mommys3monsters,
You are technically correct; we rounded the miles to a flat number to make the question more answerable and decided that both 00000 and 00000.1 were acceptable answers, since technically there were no full miles on the car at all. As for the 100,000 vs. 00,000, we went by the visual answer -- and for all we know the car could have turned it either backward or forward (haunted car after all).
As for the Pet Semetary/Sematary confusion, that was a typo for which I take all responsibility. It has been corrected. Thanks for pointing it out!
Thanks, Clayton.
Congrats and thanks for finally posting the winner. Now that I see a major effort went in to more than just posting correct answers and a name, kudos to AMC.
But....
I do take issue with the answer to #10. The Shining (1997) is also a correct answer as the question did not specify a King TV adaptation other than The Shining.
That's ok, as I think I'm the winner in this weeks contest.
I look forward to my interview!
Because of storms I couldn't get on last night. Congrats to the winner although I think I would've been up there with Jennifer as being the ultimate fan. I have just about every book written and written about king and have the movies etc... If I could be granted one wish it would be to be on a deserted island with King by a glowing fire and him telling ghost stories ! ! ! How exciting would that be especially for a chicken like me ! ! ( I would have to have a way out of there as I would be scared to death ! )
