Talk Forum: What You're Saying

The Talk forum still has John Wayne on the brain. We're zeroing in closer to the Duke's best picture as the defenses for each are grow increasingly elaborate. JefBo began, "Although not my favorite Wayne flick, I believe The Shootist to truly be his best work. To be an elderly actor dealing with the challenges of dying from cancer, playing an elderly gunslinger dealing with the challenges of dying from cancer, how could you help but see the deep contemplation in the worried looks on his face!"

Not to be outdone, don dorman retorted, "Come on people! The Green Beret Fighting soldiers from the sky Fearless men who jump and die Men who mean just what they say The brave men of the Green Berets! That was John Wayne!" charles, on the other hand, returned to a tried and true favorite of the forum, but offered a new -- and compelling -- reason as to why it could be the best: "John Wayne said that his favorite movie was The Searchers. He even named son Ethan after his character Ethan Edwards from the movie. It was major part of his career as well as John Ford's... Other films have have won more awards, but I am convinced that John Wayne is America. He will never be replaced and his legacy lives on in all of his movies."

Meanwhile the forum continued to consider the best romance movies. TJ weighed in with A Walk in the Clouds saying, "Each actor played their roles with such skill and depth that I literally wanted to live that story. The ending was exactly what the audience wanted, but the approach to that end was so precarious that only in the last moments was the end of the journey seen as possible." JefBo, meanwhile defended against keatsfan's earlier post that had lambasted Toms Cruise and Hanks: "Yo keatsfan," the post said, "take it easy on the youngin's. Both Toms have made some fine films, although romance is not their best genre. Of all romance movies, I believe there is truly one top choice: Casablanca."
