Talk Forum: What You're Saying
Debate over the Duke's greatest hits continued in earnest this week, and some new titles emerged as more and more fans weighed in. Ensignro brought up The Shootist, arguing "It not only showed how much he had matured, it showed how the west had matured with gunslingers and death." Freddycat, an admitted newcomer to the world of John Wayne, said, "I am a young admirer of John Wayne films at the age of 17. I have not seen all of his films but own over 40 of them. My favorite Western movie would have to be The Searchers because I believe that this film showed how bold John Wayne was as an actor."
k20o echoed freddycat's sentiments, positing that "The Duke made alot of great westerns. His best performance is easily in The Searchers. The way John Ford let Duke be himself, with the breathtaking scenery, is awe inspiring. Look at his expression when he gets to his brothers home."
Meanwhile, we reflected on Valentine's Day, and some of the most romantic movies. While I said I always like to take a page out of Sleepless in Seattle, danerex76 came up with a list of favorites including, but not limited to Serendipity, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Moulin Rouge and Jerry Maguire. What's your favorite romantic movie?

Regarding finding a replacement for John Wayne in our more recent times, I was sort of thinking that, at least as far as the Western genre was concerned, Tom Selleck and/or Sam Elliott might make an interesting alternative. Both actors portray hard driven conscientious characters with strong christian morals driving their actions, which they go to extremes so as to not compromise. Otherwise, at the moment, I can think of no one else.
