Talk Forum: What You're Saying
Classic film fans had a lot on their minds this week, and Talk forum conversations ranged from musicals to Adam West -- thankfully, those two particular topics never interesected.
Lost started things off by challenging whether the 1966 Batman film, which he deemed "campy," deserved to be considered a classic. "The movie is full of bad actors, bad story lines, and bad effects." I countered that although there were some cheesy aspects to the film, there were also some terrific one-liners that will never die: "Some days you just can't get rid of a bomb." I also wondered, if the original Batman is cheesy, what does that make Joel Schumacher's Batman & Robin?
Meanwhile, mistermysterio posited that 2007 was a bad year for musicals. "Sweeney Todd was good, but the only other one that I know of that came out last year was Across the Universe, which a friend of mine saw and said wasn't very good." He then went on to mention his favorite musical, Steve Martin's Pennies From Heaven. Ezzy responded that, "The Music Man is the best. All the songs are bearable, unlike most musicals that have 1 or 2 good songs and the rest just seem too contrived." The post went on to carp, "Rent and Hello Dolly are at the top of the annoying list. Can't stand Barbra Streisand." Apparently no Streisand fans were willing to come to the rescue, but perhaps she'll have a better time of it next week.
Finally, a quite desperate Fairy reached out to the forum to help solve a movie scene she can't quite place. The scene , which we'll call "The Liverpool BritBillies" for lack of space and time, shares many similarities with How Green Was My Valley, but thus far readers haven't yet pinned it. Read the description, then see if you can solve this cinematic mystery.
Also this week, we'll be discussing our favorite romances in honor of Valentine's Day. So log on to the Talk forum and tell us about your favorite love flick, or start a whole new conversation of your own!
