Woody Allen's Silent Defense of Writers

Whatever you may think of the Hollywood writers' strike, it's worth taking a look at the series of informational videos being produced by Speechless Without Writers. There’s a new one every day, and the ones posted so far feature such performers as Patricia Clarkson, Demi Moore, Martin Sheen, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, William H. Macy, Sean Penn, Laura Linney, Ed Asner, Rosanna Arquette, Tim Robbins, Alan Cumming, and many others. And while the general purpose of them is to make the point that what writers do is an essential element of movies and television, they make a lot of other sharp points on the way. Check out the newest one with Woody Allen, a neat little attack on the notion that audiences are sheep who can be mechanically prodded into laughter.
