"Planet of the Apes" Marathon
Today, for the first time in history, New Year's Eve is going by a second name: It's Planet of the Apes Day. You heard that right. At 10 a.m., Charlton Heston stars in the original version of what may be Hollywood's greatest argument against evolution. (The hairier members of mankind may counter that it's an argument "for" the theory.) This will be followed at 12:30 p.m. with a broadcast of its cultishly revered sequel Beneath the Planet of the Apes. Not satsified with a simple double feature, AMC then shows Escape From the Planet of the Apes (2:30 p.m.), Conquest of the Planet of the Apes (4:30 p.m.), and Battle of the Planet for the Apes (6:15 p.m.). At 8 p.m., the monkey business starts all over again with repeat screenings of the two Heston films (the first two in the series) thereby underscoring one of the franchise's messages: History repeats itself, doesn't it?

Once sat through a festival showing all of these as a kid with my cousins. Still have the stubs from the old Cobb theatre. Started in the a.m one summer and when we finished it was getting dark.
Thank you AMC. You are my preferred channel. Your Films feel like familiar friends that I have brought home--they make me feel so connected with cultural History. Thank you. Lori
i never met a 30odd6 i didnt dig
Pat, don't you mean 30 aught 6? Like the rifle?
Maybe 30 odd 6 is a new type of ape.
I enjoyed the "Planet of the Apes" marathon. It was great way to spent New Year's Eve at home, but only if AMC can cut down on those commercials it would be better!
