Most of the luminaries that MoMA's film program has saluted in 2007 have been of the highbrow sort. Which makes the museum's final homage this year, "Joan Blondell: The Bombshell from Ninety-first Street," such a refreshing change. Running through January 1, the series of over a dozen films pulls from all phases of the wisecracking sidekick's lengthy career. Saturday, December 29 alone, you can catch her with stars Clark Gable and Barbara Stanwyck in Night Nurse (1931) at 2 p.m. then follow it up with a 5:30 p.m. screening of Cassavettes' Opening Night (1977) with Gena Rowlands. Sure, Blondell's roles are secondary parts in both cases but that doesn't make them (or the actress) any less memorable.
