AMC Alert: Watch Splash Tomorrow
If you haven't seen a romantic, comic fantasy in a while, be sure to watch Splash tomorrow
morning at 9:15 a.m. on AMC. When Splash was first released in 1984, it
really was a splash, and not just because of Darryl Hannah. The film
was a film of first firsts:
-It was Disney's first release under the Touchstone moniker. It's made over 225 films since then.
-An instant hit, it made almost $70 million in the U.S. alone, huge for the time.
-According to Freakonomics, the movie popularized the name Madison for baby girls.
-It was child star-turned-director Ron Howard's breakthrough film, making him Hollywood's golden boy in 1984.
-It was Tom Hanks' first big film, making him a truly bankable Hollywood star.
-John Travolta turned down the Tom Hanks role because he thought it was too corny. Dudley Moore also turned it down.
