Wayne John Wayne wasn't merely a straight shooting cowboy.  The words he uttered made a lot of sense, and they make sense even today.  For your perusal, here are some of the more memorable John Wayne quotes.

“Life is hard; it's harder if you're stupid.”

“If you've got them by the balls their hearts and minds will follow.”

“Talk low, talk slow and don't say too much.”

“A man's got to do what a man's got to do”

Have loved all John Wayne movies since I was a child. There are so many to choose from but most favorite for me is "The Quiet Man". Whenever one of his movies is on I will watch it time and time again.

Rooster Cogburn is the one I can't believe didn't make the list. Especially the end remark by Kate Herburn. I do love John Wayne *;*

I'm surprised by the lack of votes for "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance"

Who can forget, "When the Legend becomes fact, Print the Legend.

John Wayne is one of the most under-rated actors of his time...yet one of the biggest box office draws. Given the right script and the right character...he was just as good as Jimmy Stewart or Glenn Ford or Henry Fonda. The Searchers to me is the best example of this, but I would also include The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, She Wore a Yellow Ribbon & Wake of the Red Witch. His lesser known almost seem to be his best...and his work with Maureen O'Hara was always excellent chemistry.

Forgot one of my favorite quotes...

...from "McClintock!"...

"Well I'm not gonna hit ya...I'm not gonna hit ya...the HELL I'm not!!"

Correction:

Talk Low, Talk Slow and Don't Talk Too Much!

I have a John Wayne mug in my office with this quote on the inside to remind myself every day.

My favorite John Wayne qoute is

"Big Mouth dont make a big man" -Big Jake

"That will be the day," from The Searchers. A perfect example of dare, defiance, acceptance and resignation, all wrapped up in one short phrase that says it all.

Not much more to say than John Wayne was larger than life. A man that spoke his mind regardless of his audience...both a ladies man and a man's man...what a guy!!!

Totally agree about the films mentioned above - all brilliant, but I have to say Chisum is my favourite and there are tonnes of good quotes in that. I particularly loved the "just coz we're neighbours, don't mean i gotta be neighbourly". The man was an utter legend. If the younger generation ever watched his films they'd understand the meaning of honour, pride, community, honesty, and good clean livin!
