Six things you didn't know about Sister Act

Sister_act_2 1. Sister Act star Whoopi Goldberg (Deloris/Sister Mary Clarence) is one of only ten people to win an Oscar, a Tony, a Grammy and an Emmy (okay, a Daytime Emmy, but still). The others are Mel Brooks, John Gielgud, Marvin Hamlisch, Helen Hayes, Audrey Hepburn, Rita Moreno, Mike Nichols, Richard Rodgers and Jonathan Tunick.

2. No one rocks long black robes like two-time Oscar winner Maggie Smith, in the role of the convent's mother superior. She donned them in A Room With a View to play Helena Bonham Carter's chaperone, Charlotte Bartlett. And Dame Maggie is still sporting them these days as Minerva McGonagall in the Harry Potter series.

3. Marc Shaiman, who arranged the musical numbers for Sister Act, has served as composer for over 40 films, everything from A Few Good Men to South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut (guess which score was nominated for an Oscar). He won the Tony for Best Musical Score for Hairspray in 2003.

4. A theatrical musical based on Sister Act opened at the Pasadena Playhouse in October of 2006 and later moved to the Alliance Theater in Atlanta, Georgia.  Sitcom actress Dawnn Lewis ("A Different World," "Hangin' with Mr. Cooper") played the lead.

5. Kathy Najimy, who played the irrepressible Sister Mary Patrick, was half of "The Kathy and Mo Show" (with Mo Gaffney, later of "Absolutely Fabulous"). The hilarious sketch comedy duo starred in a long-running Off-Broadway play and two HBO specials. Kathy's latest film is Two Sisters, directed by Margaret Cho and due out next year.

6. You know those inmates from the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center in the Philippines, the ones who became YouTube celebrities for their "Thriller" dance routine? They also perform the "I Will Follow Him" sequence from Sister Act.

Sister Act airs on Friday, Sept. 28 - 8PM |7 C

I absolutely love both movies for 2 reasons 1: Whoopi Goldberg rocked the convent and 2: she rocked St. Francis High School

Actually it's all the warden in the prison's idea. The inmates are being forced to dance and sing to these tunes as entertainment for the warden and some of his guests at times. All able bodied inmates are made to partake in this exercise as part of a physical fitness regiment introduced by the warden. Only those who are ill or too old to do so, don't participate. They dont perform by choice but by force. Plus a drag queen who is an inmate is the lead dancer. A damn shame if u ask me.
