Many people were not afraie to wear a neck tie or of birds. But alot of them were afraid to take showers.

I admit, for the longest time, I wasn't a fan of Grace Kelly either. I think it was mostly the psuedo accent that put me off. But then I saw "The Country Girl" from 1954 which she won an academy Award for, and was so deserving of. From the title, you might think it's a fluff in which she plays a beautiful, carefree, spoiled, rich girl living with her parents in the countryside, cavorting with all sorts of equally rich suitors. Not so. In it she plays the bitter, dowdy wife of an alcoholic husband played by Bing Crosby. She appears totally unglamorous and even haggard with bags under the eyes and frumpy house dresses. But she shows a side of herself which is extremely complicated and intense. She only made 10 movies before she became a princess, and never really got a chance to show what she was capable of.

Thanks for finally showing some quality classics. They don't make movies like these anymore. Thanks again!

Everything in Hitchcock depends on continuity, memory, sequencing and above all, on suspense. Seeing these films broadcast on AMC, where two 2-hour films of his become a 5 hour ordeal, with a full hour of promos and ads, all but destroys that delicious suspense. I do love these movies but please guys, have the mercy to kill the continuity a little less often! Thanks. peace.

get those [expletive] sliding and otherwise graphics off Hitchcock [The Birds] movies, what is the MATTER with you people, have you no decency? And you call yourself Classic

There are several mistakes in AMC's descriptions of the Hitchcock murders that accompany the photos. Firstly, we do find out how Madeline died when Kim Novack admits to James Stewart that the bad guy broke the real Madeline's neck before he threw her off the tower; the AMC description incorrectly states that we never find out how the real Madeline died. Secondly, in Shadow of a Doubt, the AMC description incorrectly says that Joseph Cotten attempts to murder Teresa Wright by throwing her down the stairs. In fact, Cotten makes three attempts to kill Wright: 1) he saws one of the stairs hoping that Wright will trip and break her neck during a fall, but he never throws her down the stairs himself (this attempt fails when Wright does trip but barely catches herself before she gets hurt); 2) he locks her in a garage with a car engine running (this attempt fails when she is discovered); 3) he attempts to throw her off a moving train (this attempt fails when she throws him off).

It's about time you people showed some decent movies on this network. It used to be everything on AMC was good, but now for the most part it's nothing but crap.

default userpic

I agree with Rob, AMC used to be my favorite channel, well practically the only channel I watched, but a couple of years ago they switched their line up to start showing just crappy movies that no one ever cared about. This Hitchcock week is a big surprise. I am really enjoying it but I am sure AMC will go back to their same crappy movies when it's done.

I thin "Psycho" is the scariest Hitchcock film. I can't even watch it. I think it's the scariest because it's believable.

default userpic

Shadow of a Doubt is Mr. Hitchcock's most frightening and suspenseful movie.

default userpic

I absolutely love Hitchcock. He was a master at his craft. Thanks AMC for honoring him this week.

default userpic

Thanks for the Hitchcock films this week!

What a treat to actually look forward to

coming home and having something GREAT

to watch !

Vera Miles was the first choice for Madeleine Elster/Judy Barton in Vertigo

Why don't they find some other way to get advertising money? How can you have a suspense interrupted by Restasis or jitterbug ad?

default userpic

Great to have the REAL classic movies back on AMC but many, esp. suspense thrillers like Hitchcock are best viewed with few breaks. How about at B&W Hitchcock festival next....the cinematography was outstanding in I Confess, and Strangers on a Train.

default userpic

Thanks to AMC for this Hitchcock tribute and also (while we're at it) for MAD MEN!

P.S.: Where's North by Northwest?

default userpic

come on amc.it's just a few days of the hitchcock festival.surely you could afford to show them uninterrupted.

default userpic

Thanks AMC for presenting Hitchcock's movies. The Birds, Marnie and Psycho remain my favorites. I agree with those who say that they don't make movies like they use to anymore. Such a waste.

I am delight to have a chance to watch, Hitchcoch's movies for I scheduled every thing around it. I hope that AMC run his movie again soon. When the last show arrived it will be a sad moment for me, because it is different from all the up date movie for there no bad lauguage, and it not bloodly.Surprise people for another feather of Hitchcock festival next week or next month and you will see who all toon in. Thanks AMC, it is good to see your care and your willing to make different in our life.

default userpic

i remember when AMC did not break for commercials, why did you change? you're killing me here...

the hitchcock festival is admirable as his movies were based on continuity, as previously mentioned, that's why his brand of suspense is so engrossing, you're caught up in it, he has your ATTENTION and doesn't let go...the other channel, TCM, still runs movies w/o breaks (hint?)/keep this up AMC, include more REAL classics in your lineup, this is the way you started out...

default userpic

for pure cinema...Psycho is the best death scene Hitch has to offer..but Newman doing hand to hand with a KGB agent comes close.

I'd switched to the TCM channel for the most part. This week I'm back with AMC. Hitchcock movies are some of the best.

default userpic

This is the first time I have watched AMC in years. I used to be an avid viewer when the movies were actually "classic." Now it's become just another movie channel. Nothing special anymore.

Seeing Vertigo again on AMC made me realize how brilliantly the film was done. Jimmy Stewart's performance was masterful and th whole thing has a surrealistuc look that pulls you right in. Hitchcock was a genius.

Please, AMC, hold the interruptions and ugh, rolling banners during these films. As much as I like your station, I've started to watch less frequently to avoid drowning in your commercials.

You have to know when is enough.

default userpic

Psycho is the best. It made me always look toward the door when I am showering. Just creepy.

default userpic

Great week on AMC! More classics please!

default userpic

Keep the old reels rolling!! Love 'em! What about Cape Fear with Gregory Peck & Robert Mitchum?

default userpic

Perhaps the greatest part of Hitch's movies are the music scores that lead us along or intensify the murder and love scenes. But both my son (who never agrees with me)and I found the song and Pyscho scenes in your commercial trailer a refreshing combo. I must have watched it 100 times this week and found myself enjoying your fesitval all the more.

Move over Bernard Herrmann, here comnes AMC!

default userpic

Reading TD's comment on the music in Hitchcock films; how true. Proof of that in the last kiss scene in Vertigo. Jimmy Stewart thinks he's got his Madeline back. I think the filming of that scene was a work of genius. In case we've forgotten, it shows us what real love feels like, looks like.

I know after watching Psycho I showered with the door locked and the curtain open for months.

First of all, THANK YOU for showing the Hitchcock movies this week! It's been fun to have something great to watch. Much better than the crap AMC usually shows. Why does AMC keep showing the same awful movies over and over? There are so many wonderful classics out there, why don't you show those? And the commercials!! How can you call yourselves a classic movie channel and then interrupt the classics with idiotic commercials!? Hitchcock and other wonderful directors would be irate to see their work interrupted with commercials for crap. Go back to the way you used to be -- no commercials and just the TRUE classics!!

default userpic

Where was North By Northwest this week? Or Spellbound? Or Notorious? I think The Trouble With Harry is the worst film I've ever seen -- and I LOVE Hitchcock -- but you showed that over North By Northwest?! What the heck....

default userpic

Psycho is my all time favorite Hitchcock movie.

I watch it everytime i see it is on and i never get tired of it.

Norman Bates is creepier than all the Freddy's and Jason's and Michael Myers characters of today.

default userpic

It was great going home knowing there were actually some classic movies to watch. AMC used to be my favorite movie channel. Real classic like Bette Davis...Joan Crawford..Susan Haywood etc. and with no interruptions. Now ALL this commercials. But the Hitchcock week was great. It would be nice to have more weeks like this..Thanks for coming back to the classic. Great Work!!!

default userpic

Come on people Pscho is good but VERTIGO is always been his best Master Piece. Even the AFI voted it one of the top 10 great movies in the best 100 movies ever made. Vertigo is a complete MasterPiece Genius Movie.

default userpic

by the way Vertigo scares me to death in his Nightmare more so than Psycho.because it is like a dream in that cinema color especially the painting of Carlotta. Holy Smoke , the suspense in that movie is mind bogling

default userpic

Thanks for the Hitchcock movies. He is my alltime favorite, a true master of suspense. Also, please give strong consideration to bringing back more of the classics of the 40's/50's. You show very few of them these days and it has been a huge letdown for me and I'm sure many other classic movie aficionados. I watch more TCM and less AMC now because TCM has the good ones, like you did in the past. Please bring them back.

default userpic

Please keep the Hitchcock movies playig for it is a real classic. Thank you for running his Movie again for the month of Octomber. I stay hm all day watching it and telling my friends that His movies was shown on AMC. They say "cool". We was actig like young teenagers; just relating how the house was quiet for our parent did not wanted to hear a pin drop.

default userpic

Keep up the great programming you've had as of late.. loving the Hitchcock series (as well as your new graphics).

default userpic

There should be a place to go on AMC to find the names of songs and artist used in AMC promos. I need the name of the song and artist.that played in the Hithcock Saturday promo on Saturday 10-20-07 during Vertigo with the words "I see the shadows on my wall". Please help.

default userpic

I am with the others that thank AMC for bringing on Hitchcock nights. I must say that we can not forget the musical scores that make each film memorable. It is lost in film today, and I like the others, mostly go to TMC now for favorites.

The old AMC was so great and without commercials. Please stick to classic genres and perhaps continue to highlight great directors and actors. Bette, Judy, Jack Nicholson, Meryl Streep, Cary Grant, Tony Curtis, Debby Reynolds, Debrorah Kerr, and so many more, we can't get enough of.

default userpic

The song you're looking for Neil is a song called "Like Murder" by a band called Twilight Sleep. Just google them to get their site and download it from there.

default userpic

What's the name of the song/breakbeat in the Curse Of Michael Myers promo?

I just saw Vertigo all the way through for the first time. Somehow, I had always missed this incredible movie.

I would like to mention the incredible editing by George Tomasini. The movie is like nothing I have ever seen before, even from Hitchcock. The sheer number of cuts is amazing, but the meaning behind them is most interesting. They allow you to see into Stewart's mind- and a fractured one it is. The editing is quick, intense, and fragmented, like a broken mirror. Shots are repeated over and over, but edited in a way to make you uncomfortably dizzy. In the surveillance scenes when Stewart is driving, the images are held on the screen for shorter or longer periods of time than normal, making one feel anxious. It is brilliant. Hitchcock is always a master of light and darkness, but in Vertigo, there is a cold precision in his lighting- helping us see Stewart giving himself to the dark.

I would also like to mention the beautiful locations and photography.

It seems to me to be Hitchcock's most personal film. I think, from what I've read, that Hitchcock had an obsession with smart, gorgeous blondes. Yet, he was happily(?) married to a brilliant brunette with glasses. I felt like he was working through some interesting psychological problems with this film.

default userpic

The piercing music of Bernard Herrman accompanying the the multiple stabbing of the victim in the peacefulness of her shower will never lose it's terrifying effect! The blood mixing with water and the swirling down the shower drain that follows makes "Psycho" Hitchcock's best scene for me.

default userpic

What I think is really great is that there are other fans out there like me who are upset over the current new line-up on AMC. This did use to be the best channel ever. Where you could see great movies. Now they have basically turned it into TBS, TNT, USA type of network. The only classics you see now are early in the morning of they do that. Or late at night when they are having one of these so called ICON weeks like the one starring Alfred Hitchcock. I wish more viewers would contact Rainbow Entertainment who owns AMC and let the higher ups over there no how disappointed we are about the line-up they are forcing us to watch.

default userpic

I feel one of the most important ingredients in Psycho was the music. It was enough to scare you to death. Now I noticed many people expressing their displeasure with AMC. Although I do enjoy sharing my input on this website, I very seldom watch AMC. Yes at one time it was great, but not anymore. I so enjoyed commercial free, and how many times can you watch the movie?
