Wow: Surprises In Weekend Box Office
Man, did The Invasion flop or what? According to Box Office Mojo, the Nicole Kidman film make less than $6 million this weekend. Do you think the badder than bad showing will hurt Nicole's career? In the short term, it can't help, right?
The big winner was the Greg Mottola-directed Superbad, which made $33 million. Kudos to Mottola, one of the nice guys in the industry who badly needed a big film to re-ignite his career.
As I peruse the chart, what really surprises me is the staying power of Transformers. Making $306 million on a budget of $150 million, and still in the Top 15, it's beaten Depp's At World's End and is on track to clobber Spider-Man III ($336 million). You know Transformers 2 isn't far behind.
The video game documentary, The King of Kong hit five screens and brought in $51,000+, and DiCaprio's eco-saga The 11th Hour brought in $60K on four screens -- both respectable. We'll see how they fare when they go wide.

I really liked that movie.
