His Skin Was Pale and His Eye Was Odd

Sweeneytodd_small_4 Just in time for Christmas, this heart-warming film hits theaters, the story of a selfless barber who feeds the hungry and makes the streets less crowded.

Yes, a new Sweeney Todd, directed by Tim Burton and starring Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter, joins the long, proud, extraordinarily well-populated history of this particular gruesome tale, which includes Thomas Peckett’s Victorian era newspaper serial The String of Pearls (1846), George Dibdin Pitt’s melodrama (1847), Christopher Bond’s play (1973), Stephen Sondheim’s musical (1979), the BBC’s television movie (2006), and the recent Broadway revival starring Tony winners Michael Cerveris and Patti LuPone.

Whew! So what’s new in this one? Well, it’s got Johnny Depp. Singing!
