Reminds me of Hitchcock!

default userpic

This is such a bullshit video.

default userpic

YOUR FILM POSSESSES STRONG STORYTELLING STRUCTURE, GREAT LIGHTING, FIRM CASTING, AND REALLY CREATIVE SOUNDTRACK. VERY WELL DONE!!!
IS THERE A LONGER VERSION? IF SO, WHEN & WHERE WILL YOU POSTED IT?

default userpic

Joshua, as I am a filmmaker, too, I must say that you really have a knack for this medium - filmmaking.

Right off the bat you have utilized a strong filmic sense and sound to play within such a shortened space of time...ie. the air raid siren signifying an emergency has occurred juxtaposed with the vapid serenity of empty fall leaf covered streets, vacant playground and the eerie dusky cemetery moment where the protagonists wander through in a mystifying spirit like imagery...the Angel of Death driving the girls home, yet announcing in a haunting, echo manner to the world of the un-living, "THEY HAVE ARRIVED!...."

Each and all of these mentioned moments as you have delivered so concisely in such a short span of time as it suggests to the viewer to pay attention...all of your faculties will be put to the test.

Your command for editing and use of sound (with multi-layered vocals and sound fx) really demonstrates your attention to detail and the firm understanding to how and why the expansion of the film world is so essential.

Best of luck in this contest and future endeavors. I'd really like to collaborate with you in the near future.

default userpic

Fantastic film

default userpic

It scared me. You really captured a universal fear, and the production values as so good that even for the few seconds it takes to watch, its seems like a lifetime because of the anxiety you create. Good work!

default userpic

Marvelous work. I was so engaged to the screen by the time the Woman in Black was gliding towards the girls as they took refuge in the bathroom from a world where they're forever stuck in complete unaware that they're dead I nearly bumped into my computer screen. I was completely engrossed with the images as your crafty use of sound is so captivating...
MAN, YOU ARE A SENSATIONAL FILMMAKER...
With such a short time frame I must say you have nailed it. Can't wait to see more of your creativity in larger projects. You surely are an extremely talented filmmaker, Joshua Meyerson!

default userpic

Really fantastic work!
Frenetic editing and controlled sound just rules the screen.
Kudos!

default userpic

Spectacular directing!

default userpic

I WANT YOU AND YOUR CAST/CREW TO MAKE A BUNCH 70s B-FLICK STYLED HARLOT PICTURES...YOU ROCK AND THE GIRLS ARE HOT! I WANT TO SEE THE LONG ;) VERSION...

default userpic

I would like to take this opportunity to say thanks to all of my supporters who took a moment out of their day to cast their vote for this film.

I would also like to send my great appreciation and thanks to my CAST who put up with the crazy hours, fast paced filming requirements, and loud straining screams over and over (which, thankfully didn't annoy the neighbors, too much, so that any Police officers were summons).

Lastly, I would like to congratulate the other 19 FINALISTS who rose from the pack, each and everyone of you have made a great challenge for all of us.

Good luck and Good Night.....

default userpic

Wonderful directorial efforts.

default userpic

Now that's a fantastic short film...a real great narrative, symbolism, hot chicks, fast editing...sweet stuff to view..again and again...

default userpic

Very haunting...love the lighting

default userpic

Short very captivating, want to see the entire film with the special effects, your combining the use of sound and images and of course how you ended it.

default userpic

Wow!! you got a lot of connections!!

default userpic

Loved it! It really hooks you.

default userpic

OUTSTANDING SHORT FILM...GOOD LUCK WITH THE FINALS!

default userpic

Totally bitchin'...love the film.
Dig the mood/atmosphere you have created...

default userpic

Excellent execution. You're a fine filmmaker!
Loved your film...

default userpic

Refreshing look at a haunting tale.
FInally, a really fast paced short film on here!!!
AWESOME JOB!!!!!! :)

default userpic

This might give Troll 2 a run for its money in the worst acting category.

default userpic

way to go this short really stands out great job

default userpic

living dead girl is the only one who possesses sense. i mean i love helpless, witless girls with breasts and zero acting skills as much as the next misogynist, but i don't think this video deserved to have a cassette in the camcorder.

and since when were ghosts so hellbent on wasting water?

default userpic

Good concept, but the lighting was a bit extreme and the sound sloppy. I can see this as a larger piece, but for 60 seconds I didn't feel a resolve. With 2 main characters instead of one it looses a little focus. Good effort and good promise for the filmmaker. Just don't be afraid to slow down your cuts.

default userpic

Strong, well-rounded film.

default userpic

I'm very impressed on your directorial skills and film sense. Given this type of project requires the filmmaker to attack the 1-minute time limit on all cylinders, well, you surely have done that. As there are in all films faults, you have some to deal with, but minor, basically topical. Other than that you have clearly demonstrated your keen ability to catch your audiences attention and stir emotions within us all - whether to feel the anxiety that your story possesses, or just poke each of us with some sense of strong communication to make others respond either positively or not, you still have a remarkable quality as a director.
Well done!!!
Good Luck with the contest!

default userpic

Congratulations, J, on your FINALIST acceptance. Great film! Go get 'em!

default userpic

You must be very proud of your accomplishments here in the contest so far and your cinematic skills as a director! I look forward to seeing much more of your work!
Best of luck!

default userpic

Eh... it was ok

default userpic

I think you have a very well developed idea and sure in a short format that this contest has provided you have action-packed it to the gills and walls and lights flicker/water running/flushing/echo voices etc...super cool all the way around the 1-minute framing....

default userpic

It wasn't that good, the comments seem to make it seem as if it were crazy good

default userpic

I for one thought you made fabulous attempt as freaking out any viewer...right on

default userpic

Terrific Short Film For This Contest

default userpic

Super job. I especially loved the rhythm of this film. I thought that my heart was gonna jump out of my chest at the end of the ghost dressed in black slowly crept after the two girls in the apt...WOW!

default userpic

You're a brilliant filmmaker as you took me on a crazy ride of fears and anxieties which left no room for BS. Great JOB

default userpic

great work.
intriguing.
reverberating images haunt my mind now.
chilling sounds
perfect for a dark and stormy night

default userpic

good story. this has potential for tv

default userpic

Rob Zombie's too smart to pick this as it currently exists.

Maybe try exploring the more psychological elements of fear as opposed to the stereotypical scare tactics--oh no, the faucet turned on by itself, the lights are flashing on and off, someone's trying to get in the door! I'd rather see why they're frightened as opposed to them unconvincingly freaking out over people in robes walking slowly.

default userpic

I think you did a wonderful job with exploring anxiety in a pure state within such a minimal time frame and covered a lot of ground in comparison to the rest of the pack in this contest. With all of the components that you have laid before us in your film you have a well-crafted story structure and really nailed the emotional rush, for that you deserve to win.

default userpic

Your film really works and rocks 'round da clock
Don't be bothered by nay-sayers, just hang on to what you believe in and that in itself is the way champions are made

default userpic

KILLER PICTURE, KID

default userpic

I LOVED THIS!!!

default userpic

Now here's a rich tale, and I can't wait to see more. You have real command to use this format of filmmaking to capture your ideas. Very strong ideas at that!

default userpic

mann this wasn't even that good, you people make it out to be a friggin piece of art, my bussiness in the toilet is a better piece of art

default userpic

Man those girls are the best actors ever, you should sign them up for the next 200million dollar movie.

default userpic

I think you did a spectacular job within the time limit.
Any intelligent film / tv watcher seems to be well-versed and equipped over all of our experiences day-in-n-out, so that leads us to one thing - your film plays as entertainment and it is solely what this contest is based on - entertaining us with your greatest fear. You have displayed that to the fullest and in all capacities that you the filmmaker knows how. I for one and many more within the 1st round and this FINALISTS round have duly noted that your film possesses strong merit and tension through editing. I also believe that your direction for the style of acting is intention to be based within the B-Movies. Again, this is a 1-minute contest not a feature length. You have a very high regard with packing in as much detail as possible and transcend us through a labyrinth of haunting sounds that are very eerie. I screen tons of short films and features annually for a major entity, and you have delegated great promise and fortitude. I and some of my associates are rooting for you to WIN this contest. We look forward to seeing you on the other side of the finish line.
Best of luck. I'll be in touch.

With highest regards and blessings.

default userpic

rockin' film

default userpic

FANTASTIC FILM.
YOU HAVE THE BEST ONE HERE!!!
GOOD LUCK.

default userpic

You have yourself a wonderfully entertaining piece. The lighting is super on all levels given the nature of scene to scene. The mood you created is haunting and engaging. I want to see much more. Your use of sound is very intriguing. A job very well executed.

default userpic

The one thing that really stands out in your film than the others is that you took a conventional concept and turned it over and over - round and round - thereby making it enjoyable and watchable again and again. No matter what others say in negative tone about your film you have triumph with high regards: stellar directorial command with a large piece and made a tight trailer that works supremely for this contest; mise en scene is great, your camera work and editorial rhythm coupled together make the viewer on edge and scared. You have a real knack for utilizing this medium to entertain us on a topic that's supposed to be frightening, real or not you surely accomplished that. Outstanding efforts and I wish you all the best in WINNING as the wanning moments of this short lived contest approach.

default userpic

Enjoyable and thrilling.
My heart rate jump nearly 35 points, WOW!
Talk about anxious feelings you stimulated.
I'm going to watch it again, infinite it's that great!
Good luck on the final judging.
MR. ZOMBIE, here's the WINNER!

default userpic

SUPER HOT FILM
TOTALLY LOVED IT
AMAZING DIRECTORIAL EFFORTS!
I FEEL VERY JITTERY AFTER WATCHING IT!
AWESOME AFFECT THAT YOUR STORYTELLING POSSESSES!

default userpic

i want to see more, loved it

default userpic

U moved me all over the place...oooohhh
I play it over and over & I can't get enough
What a kick' ass horror short...
I get really scared in the same spot when i play it
Can't wait to see what happens to this and more of your films.
You totally rock, Josh!

default userpic

CONGRATS ON THE FINALS
NOW, WIN THIS THING!

default userpic

that's a damn strong contender to win
i really dig the rhythm and use of sound to convey
a lot of emotion in such a short span of time
60 seconds is so short and you have done it justice

default userpic

SLICK

default userpic

u have a greatest fearing viewer here
amazing job
in my mind you r the winner

default userpic

a well-crafted haunting look at the other side of morning...
freaky and frightening display when two girls run away from their reality

default userpic

Man, I hate to sound like a troll, but I just don't see how people like this. I'm not a troll, hate to sound like it, but it just looks really bad. bad lighting, poor, MTV-Avid fart editing. Concept is very muddled and unclear.

Just my opinion. But this is turning into a popularity contest. But hey, you love horror and made a video. Don't ever stop doing what you love based on what you read in comments.

default userpic

Sensational, Joshua! Keep it going. Apparently you have what it takes and nobody can take that away from you. NOBODY.
We're all pulling for you back in CALI. And remember what I told you back then, the world is filled with those that are supporters and those that tear down the support. Substantiate your support and the supporters will overshadow the lack of support.
CHAMPIONS TRIUMPH OVER ALL - YOU'RE THE TOWER AMONG ALL OTHERS.

default userpic

Hey J, long time since you've put one up and here you go pole vaulting over the high bar! Great lil' horror short. A tremendous effort!

default userpic

A Perfect Horror Trailer For This Contest!
Miles Ahead of the PACK!!!

default userpic

What a film!
I love it!
I'm terrified when I imagine voices swirling in the trees now everytime they shake, imaging that's not just the wind, but ghosts and closing in quickly. When the lights flicker it's not weak wiring but it's ghosts, etc.
Super cool!

default userpic

SUPER WORK, KID!

default userpic

You have really nailed the "anxiety of our times" in AMERICA. For the sheer fact that emotion is the context of any art, and here it's the diversification which relies on nothing else but you have cornered the market. Wishing you all the success from this film in the lasting phase of the general public's chance to show what they feel is the best and how it makes them feel. Fantastic job!

default userpic

MADNESS
A-B-S-O-L-U-T-E
MADNESS

default userpic

Magnificent perspective on the fear of being trapped. Nothing worse than feeling helpless and confusion. The walls are closing in on the girls and it's just haunting with your soundtrack. I thought your use of wardrobe, make-up, locations, lighting and camerawork really belong in the top rated section of this contest compared to the rest of the FINALISTS. You are a fabulous director and need to be recognized for your craft and artistry. You're the WINNER in many's eyes and hopefully the final judge. Wonderful job!

default userpic

so loved it i have been sending it out to my peeps all ovah the place...best one!

default userpic

Haunting and terrifying!

default userpic

Cool short film. Exciting and strangely eerie!
I especially enjoyed your rapid editing and imagery.
You have a great feel for the awkward and unnatural in
what should and appear to be natural without really trying
hard to be stylistically conventional as the other films in
the contest. Your smooth and effortless with each stroke
of the brush. I can't wait to see more of your work with
more sizeable time and budget. I bet you're a remarkable
filmmaker with the right stuff. Good luck with this contest
and may the best filmmaker win!

default userpic

fan-effen-tastic!
luv'd ur film
best one here - scary and entertaining and that's all that counts!

default userpic

REMARKABLE! DUH!
U film rocks the sands of any desert and melts all the polar ice caps 'cuz it's so effen HOT!!!
KILLAH WERK, KO-J!

default userpic

it's not that it's a bad film, it's not. I think it's a valiant effort, but I think a lot of the clearly friend and family comments are wonderful in that it's great that you support Josh, but don't you think that realistic comments are more constructive? Don't hate a comment simply because it's not overly positive. Saying the lighting is overdone and the editing is often spastic may just be the opinion of working professionals who are interested in up-and-comers and checking out such work. Given the time period, you get a lot out there, but it my opinion it's unfocused. You accomplished the sense of "fear" in the general term, but if it were more streamlined you might get a better reaction.

default userpic

this movie is banal and just like every other hollywood steamer left out to be enjoyed by the feeble minded. the slight discomfort of two hot babes cowering by the toilet is a fetish not a fear

user-pic

wow... now that wasn't super cheesy and lame at all. seriously, i must have taken you a total of like 2 mins to film this

default userpic

A job well done. As if these critiques have made a film, much more won anything with it. You've got nothing to worry about. It's a crowd please minus some of those that needed to be negative. Oh well, you've got talent and they don't.
Besides, horror films, like all films and art are to how your vision of that world is to be...they're not even on the same planet as you so don't fret.
All the best with the contest.

default userpic

what is this? seriously what is this? i click the video with the most votes and i was expecting something epic, instead i got epic phail. minus 22 internets for you

default userpic

Yes, I agree...You got a fantastic lil' short and fulfilled that fear factor aspect. It's a short, nothing more. And a contest. Josh, you will always be confronted by jealous and envious souls who can't do things except tear down the good that others have created. For all the successful people in the world there are groups of miserable people who decisively need to be destructive. Don't let them affect your forward progress. KEEP CREATING AND KEEP THE FAITH!

default userpic

Keep it up! You did it and it plays.
Haunting and frightening mood for two girls trapped in the world of the un-living...
Dope short film! You deserve to win!

default userpic

Watched them all and yours has more professional promise and winning qualities.

i love how all the comments on this video are from people who've only made one comment.

default userpic

From all of your collegues and associates over the years, well done my friend! You seem to have really caught the attention of your peers over the years. That's why they say never burn your bridges. It's finally paying off to get some exposure, Josh!!! Tremendous job!

user-pic

GO GET'EM J!!!!

default userpic

This film is awesome, Joshua! I have to say that I enjoyed seeing such art put into action! by the way, I really liked yor choice for the women in the film! definitely a big plus!!

default userpic

If you were going for the sort of B-movie cheesiness, then it was done well and right on the money. If you're being serious, it comes off pretty laughable. In general, I'd have to agree with yahoowahoo's comment about it being a bit scattered and as a whole, just a general idea of "fear."

default userpic

I knew you could do it...I totally dig the entire run of your film. Everyone at the firehouse told me to get up here online and vote and WOW!!!
You did a fantastic job and I actually got scared for the girls. Great take on those 70s B-Films...loved it!
Made me forget all of my real problems...wish it were a feature!

default userpic

Super job, man!
I especially love the haunting mood and attitude you picture depicts. You have a great understanding and use of this medium...It really is a breath of fresh air.

default userpic

Now that's entertainment for ya, in a fearing way!
AMAZING JOB!
A perfect piece for a contest.

default userpic

As the final wanning minutes lurk on the diming horizon here are some FINAL thoughts.

I for one have had a fun time competing against very tough films / filmmakers. You all should be extremely proud of your diligent efforts that speak very highly for each and everyone of you. We all have participated in a very exciting contest where numerous times our visions actually saw the light of day and perhaps generated a sense of fear within our audiences.

I do know that no matter what some people say about each of our projects, we all did what a commendable job. I applaud AMC, the hosts of this contest and Mr. Rob Zombie who have and will be sifting through each of the FINALISTS during the next many days and select the overall WINNER! I am sure that we can't wait for that fateful announcement.

As for the rest of those who had graced me along the way through the 1st round and this FINALISTS round I extend my gratitude and humility for your dedication and support. Some of you have really provided some intelligent insight to my already growing, insatiable appetitte for filmmaking. I do thank you for the encouraging words and good wishes.

Lastly, I'd really like to say Thank you to my new Fiancee, DJB. I couldn't have done this film without your tireless efforts and understanding through these past two weeks. DJB's cousin, who was also extremely helpful throughout this process. And DJB's entire family, thank you.

You Girls Rule!

MAY THE BEST FILMMAKER WIN!

Sincerely,

Joshua Meyerson
