If movie marketing's most outrageous stunts for the much of the twentieth century focused on the salacious (teen nudity, skywritten breasts, and pseudo-sex-education), the gimmicks from the '70s onward tend more toward the experiential, as audience members are provided with various ways of feeling like they're part of the action. Want to experience an earthquake or join the cast? Read on.

Earthquake (1974): Disastrous Rumblings Feel Real With Sensurround
This disaster hit introduced Sensurround, a short-lived gimmick that used high-decibel bass and large speakers to create tactile vibrations in the audience. Accompanied by low-frequency rumblings, the movie's scenes of the destruction of L.A. by earthquake ended up earning it an Oscar for Best Sound. Only three other films went on to employ this technology: the all-star war pic Midway (1976), the summer thriller Rollercoaster (1977), and the feature-length TV pilot for Battlestar Galactica (1978). Three serious detriments to Sensurround's popularity: costly speaker installation, potential structural damage to old theaters, and disruptions in adjoining theaters.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975): Birth of the Midnight Movie
Writer-director Jim Sharman's movie adaptation of this hit musical bombed when released. Repositioned as an interactive midnight movie (with fans dressed as characters acting out scenes with props), the film achieved cult status and is now considered the longest-running midnight movie of all time. Other off-beat, low-budget flicks from this era to find success via midnight theatrical screenings or late-night television broadcasts include Night of the Living Dead (1968), Targets (1968), El Topo (1970), Harold and Maude (1971), Pink Flamingos (1972), and Eraserhead (1977).

Deafula (1975): Sign Language in a Horror Film
This nationally-distributed black-and-white B-movie marks another unusual milestone: it's the first (and only) fright flick to use American Sign Language for all its dialogue. (Marketing referred to this as Signscope; Deafula was originally shot with neither sound nor spoken dialogue.) A monotone soundtrack was later added, loosely translating the sign language for a hearing audience.

Snuff (1976): The Snuff-Film Publicity Hoax
Grind-house directors the Findlays -- a husband-and-wife team -- marketed Snuff as depicting real-life murders. Their disturbing film was eventually revealed to be a major hoax, but not before protests had added to its notoriety and boosted ticket sales. For the most part, the movie is composed of footage from the Findlays' previously released, crudely made exploitation flop The Slaughter (1971). Allan Shackleton's Monarch Releasing Corporation rereleased the film, hoping to capitalize on the Manson murders by tacking on a brief epilogue containing a pseudo-snuff killing. (The film's most outrageous footage features the disembowelment of a female cast and crew member.)

Clue (1985): Different Endings in Different Theaters
The three separate endings shot for Clue (a movie based on a Parker Brothers board game) were initially screened in different theaters to encourage multiple viewings. Each ending provided a different solution to various murders. The home-video release contained all three endings: two of them presented as "What if?" scenarios, the third as the true ending. Some newspaper ads specified ending A, B, or C, but most viewers were frustrated by the ambiguous clues and the arbitrary nature of the murders' explanations.

The Blair Witch Project (1999): The Advance of Viral Marketing
With a Website launched two years before the movie's debut, this pseudo-documentary was able to generate belief in its story's authenticity, and thereby attain astronomical financial success. It became one of the first independent blockbusters and the most profitable film in Hollywood history. Budgeted at about $30,000, The Blair Witch Project grossed $249 million worldwide. Another notable movie that used viral marketing and a cryptic trailer months before its release date was Cloverfield (2008), a monster movie composed of handheld home-video footage shot during a rampaging of New York City.

The Sound of Music (2000): Karaoke Meets the Classics
The audience-participation version of The Sound of Music (1965) was first screened in the U.S. in 2000. A quasi spinoff of the Rocky Horror Picture Show phenomenon, this interactive screening was built around nostalgia, as lyrics were captioned to facilitate sing-alongs, while response kits (called Fun Paks) allowed the audience to wave fake white flowers during "Edelweiss" or set off party poppers when the Captain kisses Maria. Moviegoers are actually coached to react (boos for Nazis, hisses for the Baroness).

House of Wax (2005): Celebrity's Staged Death As Promo Campaign
The horror-film remake of House of Wax (1953) featured a unique and notorious marketing campaign to capitalize on the star power of one of its characters, with the spoiler tagline "On May 6th...See Paris die!" printed on posters and T-shirts. The advance publicity referred to the gruesome death of celebrity Paris Hilton. In her first major theatrical film appearance, she is pursued and impaled with a sharp wooden spear thrown (like a javelin) into the center of her forehead.

Fast & Furious (2009): D-Box Puts You in the Passenger Seat Near Vin Diesel
The D-Box, a vibrating movie-theater chair, was invented by a Montreal-based company and used for the first time for the release of Universal's Fast & Furious. For a surcharge, select chairs installed in L.A.'s Grauman's Chinese Theatre and another theater in Surprise, Arizona, offered an enhanced viewing experience by vibrating, leaning, tilting, and shaking based on the onscreen action.

Monsters vs Aliens (2009): 3-D Meets CGI
A DreamWorks scifi spoof of '50s monster movies, Monsters vs Aliens is the first computer-animated feature film to be shot directly in stereoscopic 3-D, dubbed the Ultimate 3-D. Previously, 3-D CGI films were made in a non-3-D version and then "dimensionalized." Other 3-D computer-animated films would also debut in the new format: 20th Century Fox and James Cameron's Avatar (2009), Disney's Christmas Carol (2009), Pixar's Up (2009), and, soon, the rerelease of Toy Story 3 (2010).

I went to Chicago this month (see the pictures here) for the premiere of Michael Mann's Public Enemies and sit-down interviews with the cast, in Chicago's Union Station. Universal rented out the entire train station and closed it down (folks were still able to take trains, but from a different entry point) -- and that's just a small indication of what the Windy City means to this film. Co-stars Johnny Depp and Christian Bale, as well as Mann and Marion Cotillard (Depp's love interest in the movie), all said that Chicago plays the role of a character in this story of the legendary American bank robber John Dillinger. As for whether Depp believes Dillinger might still be out there -- hanging with Elvis at Burger King or talking on his cell phone -- and wasn't assassinated by the special agent Melvin Purvis (Bale), you'll have to watch the video to find out.

This Saturday, it's July 4, when America celebrates its independence from Britain by blowing things up real good. Nothing says "We, as a nation, aspire to be a beacon of democracy and equal rights" like a truly boom-tastic explosion. Since such outsize displays are on the minds of Americans everywhere, I thought I would give over this week's column to a critical review of explosions in science-fiction movies. Because, you know, why not?

Star Wars (1977)
To be sure, there were explosions before Star Wars, from the cheap exploding space craft in Flash Gordon to the more expensive exploding craft in Silent Running. But it was in Star Wars that the Big Damn Explosion really burst onto the scene as a science-fiction staple. What's more, Star Wars features not one but two really big explosions: the planet Alderaan getting zapped by the Death Star, and then the Death Star itself going blooey after a proton-torpedo enema. Of the two, I always thought the Alderaan explosion was more impressive. But then, the coolest explosion in the whole movie belongs to the last TIE fighter that dies chasing the Millennium Falcon after it escapes the Death Star. Seriously, go look for yourself.
Explosion Rating: A

Superman (1978)
Not content to just blow up a planet, this movie blows up a star and a planet! Not to mention, if you'll recall, unleashing a thermonuclear device on California -- an event that is, curiously, underplayed.
Explosion Rating: B

Alien (1979)
Ripley blows up the Nostromo to kill a single alien, the ultimate example of using an ax to kill a fly, if you ask me. Be that as it may, the explosion is awesome, since the ship blows up not once, not twice, but three times -- each explosion more spectacular than the last. A truly underappreciated exploding event in the history of science fiction.
Explosion Rating: B+

Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi (1983)
Yes, The Empire Strikes Back was the best-written and directed of the original trilogy, but on the explosion front, it was, shall we say, underwhelming. (TIE fighters? An Imperial walker? A power generator? Weak sauce.) Not so with Jedi, which blows up Jabba's yacht, a shield installation, Imperial cruisers, dozens upon dozens of fighter ships, yet another Death Star, and -- critically -- at least one Ewok. Really, this is a high point, if not the high point, in science-fiction exploderation. The explosion-special-effects people should get an Oscar -- THAT EXPLODES.
Explosion Rating: A+

Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991)
Remember how the Superman movie detonated a nuclear bomb in California, but never really did anything with it? Well, this one knows how to handle a thermonuclear device over L.A. Not only does it wipe out downtown, it also sets fire to a playground -- kids included -- which took chutzpa on the part of James Cameron. Also, it transforms Linda Hamilton into a fence-clutching skeleton long enough for you to freak out, but not so long that you ask, "Hey, what's holding those bones together?" Well done, Cameron.
Explosion Rating: B+

Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (1991)
The last original cast movie isn't generally considered an "explosion" flick by the general public, but aficionados know that when the Klingon moon Praxis blows up, in the opening scene, it squirts out a disclike shock wave that's so visually impressive that George Lucas added one just like it to the Death Star explosion in his 1997 Star Wars reissue. Now everyone thinks that's where it came from. Not so! George Lucas is a stealer! (Well, in fact, both movies were done by Lucas's effects house, Industrial Light & Magic. But still.)
Explosion Rating: B

Independence Day (1996)
The White House is blown up. Lots of other stuff blows up, too -- and rather impressively -- including L.A., New York, Houston, and, well, pretty much every other major metropolitan area on the planet. But no one gives a damn about that: dude, they blew up the White House. There's symbolism there, man. Note: the symbolism plays slightly differently in the post 9/11 world.
Explosion Rating: A-

Have any other scifi-explosion movies to add? Do so in the comments. And remember: if you're planning to do your own explosions this weekend, be careful. We want you to have all your fingers, eyeballs, skin, and hair come Monday. Okay? Okay.

If it was good, I often reply, "that movie was frickin' sweet." But while many horror movies are sweet, few are actually about sweets. For the edification of good citizens everywhere, I've gathered some of these momentous, influential films into a list. Behold: I give you movies that star confectionery killers.

The Gingerdead Man (2005; watch the trailer)
What list of sweets-related horror flicks (and I'm sure there are many) would be complete without this phenomenal Gary Busey effort? In this cult-movie-in-the-making, Gary voices a pissed-off, psychotic gingerbread cookie. No, I'm not making this up. And if I had been the guy who made it up, I could die a happy man.
Gingerdead Man 2: Passion of the Crust (2008; watch the trailer)

What could be better than Gary Busey as a murdering gingerbread cookie? Only one thing ... more Gary Busey as a murdering gingerbread cookie. I won't bother to get into the plot... what, you were expecting the Citizen Kane of horror? Come on, dude, put down the bong and get a grip. Killer cookies! Gary Busey! There should be freakin' fireworks every time this film is screened. And a parade.

Gingerdead Man 3: Saturday Night Cleaver (rumored for late 2009 release)
If there is a creator of the universe, I implore you: Please, please let this be true!

We All Scream for Ice Cream ( 2007; watch the trailer)
Clowns are scary... no way around it. We've discussed this topic in some depth in the past, but here's a little gem I missed until now. Years after Buster, the friendly neighborhood ice cream man (who dresses like a pedophiliac clown and yes, I know there's no other kind), is killed in a wacky prank gone wrong, he returns to wreak havoc upon the kids who killed him, now adults with kids of their own. The killer clown passes out ice cream bars with special powers to melt heads, create bloody messes and much, much more. There's a whole lot o' Freddy Krueger meets Stephen King's It packed into this 60-minute, made-for-cable episode of the "Masters of Horror" series... oh, and on the 10-point scale of gross, this one is a 12.5.
Ice Cream Man (1995; watch the trailer)
This one simply defies description. Okay, that's a load of bull, 'cause the description is that it's about a psycho ice cream man. As bad as that sounds, the movie's saving grace is that it provides a rare starring role for the made-of-awesome Clint Howard. Of all the movies in which you can see a severed human head served in a tall waffle cone, this is the best.

Chocolate (2005, watch the trailer) Another 60-minute "Masters of Horror" episode, but it hooks you with some very deliciously enigmatic dialogue: "Chocolate ... I just kept tasting someone else's chocolate." What does that mean, exactly? I can't tell you, but that tasty scrap of scriptwriting holds you captive as the tale starts to unfold. Directed by Mick Garris, (Riding the Bullet, Desperation), it's a classy little hors d'oeuvre that fits nicely into your NetFlix queue.
HONORABLE MENTIONS

The Candyman series (1992-1999): I know, I know, it's got the word "candy" in the title. That doesn't mean sweets are part of the plot. If it did, Sammy Davis Jr. would have been bigger then Freddy.

Blood and Chocolate (2007): It's a movie about a teenage girl trying to deal with being a werewolf. She works in a candy shop. Not quite good enough

Ginger Snaps (2000): It's a movie about a teenage girl trying to deal with being a werewolf. Her name is Ginger and she snaps. Not quite good enough.

Death is Like a Box of Chocolates...
Next time you have munchies and you're in the mood for a bloody flick, why not kill two birds with one chunk of rock candy? There's nothing quite like a big plate of gingerbread cookies while you watch the gore spatter. Now, would someone please cue the fireworks?

It's a rare movie that lets Bill Pullman be something other than the nice guy. Leave it to Jennifer Lynch to find it. It's taken Lynch over a decade to get back in the director's chair since the controversial Boxing Helena -- spinal surgeries and single motherhood being the causes of the delay -- but with Surveillance, she's created a twisted movie that will make you look twice, at everything.

A: It's mostly pull though, because I like her so much. We were going to do Boxing Helena, but that wasn't me -- the financing fell apart, and by the time she could do it, I was doing something else. I really wished I could do it. And this one, when she first showed me the script, I really wanted to do it, but I couldn't figure out how. I didn't know what the heck to give to it. She cast someone else [Billy Burke], then he fell through, and she showed me the script again. This time, I understood it, and I wanted to step up to the plate.

A: Jennifer sees this incredible zone of living with unconventional morality, where there are no constraints. She sees this as a pure love story: there are two people who meet and ignite each other's souls. It's hard to live in the real world when you're invested in just that, but it's an amazing place to live as a character. Most of the movie, we have to hide it, and that just makes it more vivid. We were FBI people, and everyone needed to have a professional demeanor, so the secret just makes it more intense.

Like all good games, you can construct a game that lets you see life more clearly, and in this whole structure, my character wants to see the playback of the interrogations and see whether they did as well as they think they did, their genius, whether it was going to come out. Everyone's gaming each other -- the cops are, the druggies are. The only one who isn't is the kid.

Q: Julia Ormond takes a definite left turn with her character, one that we haven't seen her do quite like this before. How did you help each other?

A: My character wants to provoke and push buttons, and Julia lovingly kept a lid on me, which I really appreciated. I knew I was not going to lose it, because she kept me focused. And my game got better because she was with me.

We weren't in that zone more than three days, really. And we didn't do that many takes. It got to the end of the schedule, and we were shooting two different endings, and in order to do it all, you got to do a couple shots and move on. But Jennifer would say, "Anything you want to do, go for it." Most of the people who were working on this didn't really know what was coming -- they hadn't read the entire script -- so the crew was pretty shocked.

Q: What was the alternate ending like?

A: I hate to give anything away. I don't know how to talk about it, but at one point in the script, there's certain people who die and certain people who don't, and in order to get financing, the original ending killed off the people who are corrupt. Jennifer proposed an alternate version, where they don't die, that she would just shoot and keep for the DVD. In the editing process, she realized she couldn't wimp out at the end, so she cut that version, which is there now, in the theatrical release, and the financiers actually said okay. Originally, they thought it would be hard for people to accept this, but the less disturbing ending is not in there.

Q: Plus, now there could be a sequel. What happens to the little girl? Because being dropped off in the desert the way she is, with no one alive for miles to help her, if their intent is to let her live, she's still got a tough road ahead.

A: You know, there's farm people. [Laughs] She could stagger into a farmyard with chickens and get a nice breakfast pretty quick. There was some talk of a sequel, and it would definitely involve her, what will become of her, what she will do. It's an interesting thought. They let her live because she's the only one who was conscious, because she was the true seer, the only one seeing the world the way it is. But she couldn't get anyone's attention.

Q: Thanks to this and Lost Highway, you've now worked with both David and Jennifer Lynch. Are there any familial similarities between them, director-wise -- besides their shared penchant for long, lonely roads?

A: I always thought there was something genetically similar, some kind of a midwestern thing, that gives them a sense of who they are and how they look at life. They both have a joy in being able to make art specific to their vision, and they're very charismatic people, with everybody. And they want you to look cool, too. David always put good outfits on me, so I was looking sharp, and Jennifer, even though it was mostly FBI-standard wear, she'd say, "Oh, you look hot, Pullman," and I'd go, "You're damn right." [Laughs] I was glad to see that she did that with every actor.

When mercury levels soar, the natural impulse is to give the range a rest and make meals outdoors. Throw a couple of burgers and dogs on the grill, crack open a cold one, and it's an instant party. Plenty of movies celebrate this quintessentially American activity, and they offer invaluable reminders that not all cookout guests are created equal. As you mastermind your own grill sessions this season, consult this list of the top-ten worst-ever BBQ guests and plan accordingly.

10. Dustin Hoffman, The Graduate (1967)
There are plenty of badly behaved guests at the graduation party the Braddocks throw in the back of their home. His parents' friends keep offering Ben (Hoffman) unsolicited career advice. Mrs. Robinson asks Ben to drive her home, only to seduce him. But it's the sullen guest of honor himself who's the worst. Escaping the cookout by donning his goggles and fins and slipping into the pool lands Ben in tenth place.

9. Johnny Depp, Edward Scissorhands (1990)
Poor Peg Boggs. The amiable Avon Lady is trying out some soothing salves on her shy houseguest's many scars when the doorbell rings. The nosy neighbors on the doorstep insist Peg host a backyard barbecue to introduce the newcomer. Peg complies, and the otherwise freakish, pale recluse is withdrawn but well behaved. Alas, his inability to handle finger foods (not to mention that pesky ambrosia salad) with his daggerlike hands renders him unlikely to receive a repeat invitation anytime soon.

8. Greg Pitts, Office Space (1999)
For a guy who'd rather be fishing than at the office, Peter Gibbons sure spends a lot of free time with his Initech buddies, Michael Bolton and Samir. Then there's Drew (Pitts). At a cookout hosted by recently laid-off Tom, Drew tells Peter that his new girlfriend, Joanna, used to sleep with their reviled boss, Lumbergh, and that's after he sees fit to demonstrate his "oh face." Drew's overshare about his plans for the new chick from Logistics scores him an eight.

Dan Aykroyd, The Great Outdoors (1988)
Chet (John Candy) is looking forward to a serene vacation when loudmouth Roman (Aykroyd) and his family show up. The brothers-in-law are polar opposites. Pushy Roman's a self-styled big shot who brags about everything, a seventh-place trait made obvious during the first night's cookout. Mild-mannered Chet wants hot dogs, but Roman insists on lobster, saying, "You know what they make those things out of? Lips and assholes!" Classy.

6. Stan Shaw, Fried Green Tomatoes (1991)
Hope your summer fare doesn't share any resemblance to the grub cooked up by Big George (Shaw). When sweet Ruth's abusive husband tracks her down, George and gal pal Idgie kill him, chop him up, grill him, and serve him to the detective in search of the missing man. With his sly response to the cop's compliments -- "Thank you, suh. I'd have to say the secret's in the sauce" -- Big George scores an easy sixth.

5. Paul Sorvino, Goodfellas (1990)
The scene in which Paulie (Sorvino) and his buddies prep pasta in prison is rightfully famous. But in Scorsese's Mafia flick even a simple backyard BBQ is imbued with menace. As the audience sees wise guys grilling up sausages and peppers and paying their respects, Henry's voice-over explains that Paulie's protection is like a "police department for wise guys." The ability to order hits as well as hot dogs earns the culinary capo fifth place. Mangia!

4. Randy Quaid, National Lampoon's Vacation (1983)
Visit Coolidge, Kansas! Better yet, don't. That's where Clark Griswold has the misfortune of spending time with wife Ellen's cousin, Catherine, and her husband. In addition to his lack of hygiene, Cousin Eddie (Quaid) brings the vibe of the visit to a new low during a cookout when he produces his pièce de résistance: Hamburger Helper sans the meat. Would you want this guy lounging on your patio? Nobody would! Still, there are worse guests out there, such as...

3. Vivien Leigh, Gone With the Wind (1939)
The Twelve Oaks-barbecue-party sequence falls toward the beginning of the classic southern epic Gone With the Wind, and it certainly sets the table for what's to come. Green-clad career flirt Scarlett O'Hara (Leigh) gleefully works the room at the party, trying to attract Ashley Wilkes's attention. Unfortunately, seductively telling a guest "Charles Hamilton, I want to eat barbecue with you" has the opposite effect. Scarlett's transparent use of the lamest pickup line ever helps her crack the top three.

2. Clint Eastwood, Gran Torino (2008)
Who's the perfect guest at the recently immigrated Hmong family's barbecue? Tough to say, but probably not the crotchety racist who lives next-door. Nevertheless, after Walt Kowalski (Eastwood) brandishes his rifle at the gangbangers menacing his neighbor, the kid's grateful sister, Sue, invites her brother's savior to join them for a meal of grilled goodies. Walt may be good at heart, but the old guy still gets second place for his unapologetic use of racial slurs like "gooks." Awkward!

1. Josh Brolin, W. (2008)
Unapologetically liberal director Oliver Stone does a bang-up job showing how boozy bad boy (and fellow Yale alum) George W. Bush (Brolin) met and won over his life pardner, Laura. Chatting her up at a barbecue celebrating his first run for Congress, he promises the LBJ supporter he'll make her his education adviser if he wins, saying, "I like the way you think. And look." Dubya's obnoxious line and the ominous undertones of the cookout earn him a new title for his résumé: Worst. Guest. Ever.

A teenager who has never grown out of infancy could hold the key to prolonging human life. Let's just hope she's not the herald of a Soylent Green future.

In movies like The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Jack, genetic aging disorders are treated with whimsy. They're chances for us, as an audience, to reflect on what adult life looks like through the eyes of a child. But for Brooke Greenberg, being a teenager trapped in the body of an infant isn't about life lessons or magic.

For the past sixteen years, Greenberg has maintained the appearance and development of an infant, baffling researchers who have been unable to identify her genetic disorder. Brooke's condition is so unique, in fact, that scientists now believe her body may hold the key to eternal youth. Somebody tell Hugh Jackman, stat, because he thinks it's in a space tree. (The Fountain, anyone?)

Unlike Benjamin Button, whose entire body ages backward at a constant pace, Brooke's body parts are all different ages. "There've been very minimal changes in Brooke's brain," explains Dr. Richard Walker, of the University of South Florida College of Medicine. "Various parts of her body, rather than all being at the same stage, seem to be disconnected."

Brooke still has all of her baby teeth, but her bone age is estimated to be about ten years. This has led to a number of deadly conditions for the child, including burst ulcers, strokes, and a brain tumor. But perhaps even more miraculously, every time Brooke seems on the verge of death, she heals.

So what's going on here? It's certainly not Robin Williams's disease in Jack, which causes the man-boy to age from infant to full-grown adult in ten years, then to an old man by the time he's graduated from high school. Neither is it Benjamin Button's magical reverse aging.

Currently, doctors like Walker are trying to isolate the genetic anomaly or mutation (let Jackman's Wolverine know about this one) that is responsible for Brooke's ailment. "Without being sensational, I'd say this is an opportunity for us to answer the question, why we're mortal, or at least to test it," Walker says. "And if we're wrong, we can discard it. But if we're right, we've got the golden ring."

The implications of such a breakthrough are both promising and terrifying -- a fact that Walker concedes. "We can't have continued reproduction and people who don't age," he explains, perhaps referring to a certain scifi flick where overpopulation incites Charlton Heston to utter the iconic phrase "Soylent Green is people!" Is Brooke a beacon of hope, the Typhoid Mary of overpopulation, or simply a genetic aberration like Benjamin or Jack, here to learn about the complexities of life through a slightly different aging process? Only time will tell -- something that Brooke, at least, appears to have plenty of.

• George Lucas's much-rumored Star Wars live-action series may well be coming in 2009.

• Frank Darabont doesn't just want to adapt Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451 -- he wants to claim The Illustrated Man, as well.

• Robert Downey Jr. apparently performed a real-life act of heroism on the set of Iron Man 2, saving an extra who'd broken his hip grappling with a rampaging robot.

• Alan Cumming has always seemed fairly sleazy to me, so I think his casting as the Green Goblin in the upcoming Spider-Man musical is genius.

• Who knew that Burt Ward and Adam West reprised their roles as Batman and Robin as late as 1979? Poor Robin looks particularly bad.

• Of course, not every moment in J.J. Abrams's Star Trek script was filmed, and not every moment that was filmed made it into the final cut. Here's what you missed.

• Lost will be getting another hour next season, putting to rest all of the residual questions. My opinion? More Lost is a good thing, especially given the show's streak of excellence in the fifth season.
