Clues why Walt broke up with Grettchen in the past?

I wonder why Walter broke up with Grettchen in his past?

In Season 2, when they met at the Restaurant, after Grettchen visited family White´s home.
She mentioned that years ago, Walt just packed his stuff, run away and left her and her family alone!
She asked him if it was because of Elliott and Walt didnt give a answer..

I think this whole thing has a lot do with Walt´s character. Why he is, how he is..
Would love to see what happened in the past..

Somebody got a clue or am i something missing?
