what got you interested in breaking bad

What got you hooked to Breaking bad. I saw a minisode for season 1 and instantly knew the show was going to be good because of the humor injected into seriously bad situations this was the link to the minisode that i am talking about. http://www.amctv.com/videos/breaking-bad/?bcpid=9787693001&bclid=11869504001&bctid=11902884001

I literally tuned in just seconds before the start of the first season. I had seen the commercials, but was still kind of lukewarm about it. I hadn't consistently watched a series for years.

By the time it was over, I was still scratching my head as to why I'd tuned in, but I ended up watching the pilot a second time that same night. Oh, and here's something else...I hadn't known ANY of the actors before the first show. I had young children during the "Malcolm in the Middle" years (for those without children, this means you're worn out and just want to go to bed instead of watching TV!), so I didn't know Bryan Cranston from Adam and hadn't seen any other show with the other actors.

Now, I'm their greatest fans. The talent just oozes out of this show and I'm glad I took a chance on it. Bring on Season 3!!!!

Season One had just started, and on a regular Wednesday night I was watching another program on AMC (I think it was "Bullit" with Steve McQueen), and there were commercials one after another on how the first couple of episodes of BB were getting all these rave reviews, and other commercials with peeks at the next episode. I then saw the actors shown in these commercials and recognized Bryan Cranston from"Malcom In The Middle" and also "Seinfeld", as well as Anna Gunn who I saw in that show. I then thought "Well, I've seen their stuff, and they're pretty good actors, and that show looks like it might be interesting enough, I guess I'll check it since there's not too much on Sunday nights anyway that's worth watching. And that's pretty much all she wrote.

I had no idea that I would get soooo hooked on a TV show like this. I'm not the type of dude that falls for anything on TV as hard as I fell for this series, with the only exception possibly being "Miami Vice", "Hill Street Blues", or a couple others. I guess there's just a certain chemistry with BB that really appeals to me (And apparentely a few million other people too), and I hope Vince and the gang can keep it semi-realistic, continue the good writing, and perhaps keep it going for at least another one or two years anyway.

I just left this big, huge comment here. Why didn't it post?? You're website has some bugs AMC - better fix 'em!!

I lucked into it. I saw a promo for the show before it debuted and set the DVR. I am not a TV show guy. I like movies so that is how I saw the promo for BB. I was into the Shield on FX , that show and BB are it for me as far as 'recent' shows.
I do not watch network TV unless it is football.
BB had me hooked early on. It grips me, every episode feels like 20 minutes, not an hour.
Best show on TV, maybe ever.

It's kind of fun to think back on how I became a fan. I've gotten so into it, it's hard to believe I only discovered the show a year ago!

I guess I got curious when Bryan Cranston won his (first!) Emmy and I started wondering, "What IS this show? Why don't I KNOW anything about it? Why is he BALD?"

Then I read a long, illustrated feature USA Today did on the show just before the second season began. I think that's also where I learned AMC was doing a marathon of the first season. I taped the marathon,, thinking I'd watch it one episode at a time - but ended up polishing it off in just two sittings, and was hungry for more when Season 2 started.

Hey DRkellogg have you seen the clip where Walt needs to break into a Garage to get 49k out of a vacuum his wife sold. http://www.amctv.com/videos/breaking-bad/?bcpid=9787693001&bclid=11869504001&bctid=11902884001
and if you showed that clip to friends do you think they would become interested in Breaking Bad or do you think that clip would make a good commercial for the show.

Cranston in his underwear! "Malcolm in the Middle" made me laugh, but you get a feeling for comedic actors who can really pull off both, like Robin Williams or (don't judge unless you've seen "Punch Drunk Love") Adam Sandler.

I had seen the commercials and was interested. I was not let down. I watched the very first airing and was reeling. I think there was a second airing later that evening where I watched it again. I was blown away. I told everyone who would listen until I became a nuisance. Then people would watch and feel the same. It was like taking a peek into someone else's realistic nightmare.

The writing, the acting, the scenery, and the editing has all kept me with my jaw dropped. I learned about the website toward the middle of the first season and just had to spill my thoughts. Now, here I am. I have to admit I started watching Dexter this year when I was getting anxious for this season to start and I feel guilty for liking it, too.

I really like Bryan Cranston. When Walt(Bryan) went driving off wildly in the RV with his pants still hanging on the rear view mirror, and then they flew off and inflated and floated for a moment and then came gently sailing back to earth, I knew this was a story I had to see til the end. Those pants were a metaphor of Walt and how his story will unfold. First, he is hung out to dry, then he is jostled. Then he breaks free and gets puffed up and floats and sails way up high in the sky! Then he gently sails back down and lands crumpled in the dirt.

Saw the commercials weeks before the first season was going to begin... im not really a fan of Malcolm in the middle.. but i did notice he was the guy from that show and i liked him in it

i wanted something new to watch and since it was on amc i felt like it would be something a lot different then your general TV shows that have been going around lately...

been watching it since the beginning and im so addicted to this show! my favorite show of all time haha

user-pic

the fact that it was set in New Mexico is what first drew my interests .. saw it and was hooked

I am a chemist turned school teacher.

I am a chemist turned school teacher. So, naturally the show had my attention.

user-pic

Saw the commercials leading up to the 1st season premier and said this looks interesting. A regular run of the mill Chemistry teacher turns meth dealer? Yeah sounds like my kinda show. Aaaack...

I heard some DJs on the radio talking about BB not long before the very first show. Actually, they were raving about it and couldn't say enough about how great it was. When they described the plot, I thought "Come on! No way that could work! They must be really dumb or exaggerating." But I was intrigued and decided to give it a try.

I watched the 1st episode and not only was it love at first sight, I was totally hooked. Actually addicted would be more accurate!

Bring on season 3, just 12 more days!!!

user-pic

I saw previews and read a story on it in Entertainment Weekly. I liked Malcolm in the Middle, and was familiar with Brian Cranston. My curiosity was piqued. I was not disappointed. I was hooked the first couple of episodes. I was a big fan of The Shield and I was hopping a new show would come on that would be as good. I don't watch any network TV, or network reality shows. My husband likes a few on cable, Ax Men, Ice Road Truckers, Pawn Stars, and they are ok. But as far as drama, Breaking Bad is the best on right now.

default userpic

I started watching because of the subject: meth.

I kept watching because of the dangers and the cliffhangers.

They kept getting into worse and worse situations, and escaping. Meanwhile, they evaded detection of the close relative, the DEA agent.

My main interest was how they were going to end it all.
Was Walt going to try some of his own product and kill himself by overdose, or was Jesse going to murder Walt in a rage?

default userpic

I am a Chemistry teacher and consequently was intrigued by a TV show prominently featuring the Periodic Table of Elements.

I love'd to watch MITM,I thought all the actors were great. So when I saw BRYAN CRANSTON I had to watch'..I was'nt disapointed, I think I'm a confirmed junkie now.can' wait for season 3..It also confimes for me that all the best actors are comedians.....

default userpic

PS I wish they would'nt have killed off the mexican drug lord,he was fantastic in this and TRAINING DAY

user-pic

rondo, they didn't want to kill him off, but he only had a contract for four shows and he said it took too much out of him to play the character. Everyone loved Tuco, but I wonder if those cartel boys can do him one better. Let's see!

default userpic

I had never even heard about this show until two days before season two started. I saw a commercial that showed Walter walking out of Tuco's headquarters, and knew I had to watch this show. The first season was OnDemand so I marathoned through it on saturday and then watched the season two premiere on sunday.

I started watching breaking bad when our local cable station switched AMC with a station that was showing reruns of Love Boat. Alot of similarities with these shows. This happened right when the scene where Teratugas head is blown up while riding on a turtle. No more Love Boat. Also,My two year old grandson looks and acts alot like TUCO

default userpic

I first started seeing promos for the show before the first season. The basic premise for the show seemed interesting and I liked the cast. I was hooked from the start!
Halfway through the first season, I was diagnosed with a pituitary tumor. I really didn't know what to think or what to do--I didn't know if I was going to die, need surgery, radiation, etc. Honestly, watching Breaking Bad really helped me through those first few months. I could relate to Walter: his desperation, secrecy, apathy. I still feel like I have a personal connection to the show--it's almost comical. Like "well, if things all go to hell, there's always Walt's plan!" I CANNOT WAIT until season 3 starts!!!

user-pic

(@Kristen, I sure hope you are doing better and am wishing you a complete recovery.)
Back to the topic, I don't like typical tv shows that try to suck you in emotionally and all that oversentimentality, ugh. I really avoid that (We all have enough of that in our lives). Breaking Bad for me was sort of a devine accident, I just heard a commercial for it and I thought it was so far fetched (chemistry teacher turns meth cooker) that I just had to see it. And that was it. I consider it a work of art, and the attention to detail is amazing, nothing was overlooked, great acting, such an exciting, novel story with so many twists and turns. It's nice to anticipate season 3 so much, even after the long break. It says a lot about "the best show on television".

user-pic

Season 2 Episode 2........still my fave.....

user-pic

Has to be the scene with Walt in his green apron and underwear standing out in the middle of the road, ready to shoot himself and the firetruck racing past him without stopping to ask what the devil he was doing there in that getup! LOL

user-pic

I missed the first run of the first season, but one Sunday evening in April 2008 I was channel surfing and caught
a scene of " . . . And The Bag's In The River", and recognized Albuquerque NM, where I had just lived for the winter. I had not had cable TV that winter, so I hadn't heard a show had been filmed there. I was immediately hooked, seeing Bryan Cranston play Walt with compassion to his captive, but still having the cojones to do away with him. Seeing him transform from Tim Whatley (Seinfeld) and Hal (Malcom in the Middle) was a delight. I'm so pleased that he's been the Best Actor Emmy Award winner the last two seasons.

I started wanting to watch it around season 2 when I would see the commercials while watching movies on amc.It really caught my attention and seemed like my kind of show but I just never remembered to watch it mainly because if I do watch tv its just straight to movie channels.I finally got around to watching it when I was home all day last thursday and I watched nearly all of season 2 on comcast on demand(episodes 5-13)in one day by the time it was over it was my favorite show of all time.Im trying to get my sister and a few friends to watch it so hopefully they can share my joy because I REALLY love this show

user-pic

Pure Luck. I saw a commercial for the season 2 premiere and that the season 1 was available on the cable on demand channel. So the weekend before the premiere I watched the entire first season and was hooked. Waiting each week for the next episode was painful, it seemed to take so long for the next sunday to come. Then when the second season was over and it was going to be 9 months until season 3, I thought I'd die. But here we are,, the day is upon us, time to go into labour.....

default userpic

got hooked while flipping through channels during season one...but the season opening for three...a big fat BORING!!!!!

default userpic

Used to have a huge interest in the drug culture, seeing as i play my part in it as well. Liked the feel of X-files but loved gritty cop shite more.(Homicide,The Wire) When Vince did interviews he'd mention other ideas brewing so i was a big fan of his long before this....Bryan Cranston it seems is as good as Vince although i thought this transcended television with "peekaboo" ive turned all i know into fans with this show worried it would end first year but glad it keeps getting better

I got hooked on the adventure of Br Ba.I recorded the 1st
seasonn on a dvdr, copied it,& turned onn al my buds & relatives. In June 2008,I suffered an acute pancreatic attack,
ended up having my gallbladder removed with a marble in it,
& spent six days on an IV & was given morphine all that time for the extreme constant pain.I have since recovered, but when I was in the hospital all I could think about was Br Ba,
& how I was imitating Walt in my sudden illness. The day I was discharged was Jume 10,when I was exactly 49 & 1/2 years old.I am a storm chaser,& I barely escaped missing storm season 2008.& I do "know the chemistry".I also recorded season 2 & episode 1 of season 3 so far.I put each episode pn iys own dvd now,in SP,like rented movie speed.I will record as much Br Ba as is made.Br Ba 4-EVER!!!

Bryan Cranston and ABQ piqued my curiosity.

I thought BC was very funny in “Malcolm” and I was curious to see him in a drama. He was so broadly comic and farcical in “Malcolm” that I had my doubts about his ability to take on such a subtly challenging role. At first I had trouble losing Hal, but now think the Emmys were well deserved. I hope Aaron Paul’s courageous work is recognized as well.

I lived in ABQ for many years (now in the NW) and often check out TV shows and movies filmed there. That alone won’t keep me watching if the show isn’t good, e.g. “In Plain Sight” (USA)and “Crash” (the Starz TV series). Both are awful, nay, unwatchable. (“Crash” was a huge disappointment after the fine film by the same title.)

The aspect of the show that keeps me watching is the complexity and authenticity of the characters. All of them have their secrets, all of them make their Faustian bargains. The big questions for me are, “Is Walt worthy of redemption?” and “Will Jesse ever realize and be true to his good nature?” Perhaps at some point, Walt’s fate will be entirely in Jesse’s hands, and Jesse will have to provide both answers.
