Ive come to the conclusion that the only way Skyler could possibly condone what Walt has done, since hes clearly going to tell her what hes been up to, is to give him the ultimatum to burn the money and she'll come back. If you look at Walt's face in the short clip they give us, he is certainly not happy burning that money!

user-pic

Walt was having a hallucination...and, part of it involved him thinking he was in Blink 182's video of "The Rock Show"...(the one where the band members are throwing the money off the roof.)

He was having great fun with it, until he accidentally burned himself...which caused him to snap out of his psychotic state...thus, resulting in complete clarity at that moment, and the realization of what he was actually doing.

The scowl on his face reflects, not only the searing pain from the burn...but also, the pain of seeing his money go up in smoke.

Ha ha ha! Really I don't have a clue, as to why he's burning that money!

Vince & his writers for this show, always zig, when we zag & it's a complete suprise what happens during each Premier episode!
For some reason, my guesses as to whats going to happen in the Encores, are usually pretty close...it's wild...talk about your déjà vu! LOL ;)

Geeeezzz...March 21st & Season 3 can't come soon enough!!

So if Walt burns the money for Skyler does he start making meth again to pay for Skyler's legal problems ? assuming she gets busted with her boss for embezzling ?
Burns money to save marriage, makes meth again to save wife ?
Really want a 50 episode season. 13 is not enough for me!

great call diksee..

A hallucination or dream , due no doubt to murdering a girl :)

He slept fine when had just killed guys

I've posted these theories separately elsewhere on here, but may as well repeat them:

My FIRST goofy theory, after watching the video teasers, was that Walt was doing a TV commerical for Saul, with the tag line 'In trouble, but don't have money to burn? Better call Saul." In this theory, it's toy money.

Later I came up with my SECOND goofy theory, that Gus is somehow in cahoots with the government, and the money he pays Walt (See his "business proposition" in one of the other video teasers) consists of marked bills. Walt later learns this and realizes if he spends any of that money, it can be traced back to him, so he buns it.

But it's probably neither of the above.

You're right, Zia!
Slept like a baby, he did!! Well...soon as he got done banging the bejabbers outta his wife. ;)

rockmama, your guesses sound very likely! However, the creator/writers are bound to throw a monkey wrench into all our theories once again, for Season 3!
I plan on wearing a helmet & safety glasses, while watching this Season! LOL

I don't have real ideas about why Walt is burning the money, but I feel certain Saul is involved in some way. Look at the matchbook Walt is holding. If I'm not mistaken, it looks like an advertisement for Saul's law firm on the cover.

Maybe Saul thought there might be an investigation coming up and Walt was better off getting rid of the money for now? They can make product at any time and recoup whatever is burned, so it's probably not a big deal to burn it.

user-pic

I don't think Walt is burning any money at all. We see him with a match book and we see him throw it. Then we see burning money. But we never actually see Walt set fire to that money. It is a trick to cause confusion. All teasers have them. Hence the name, "Teaser".

user-pic

Seems to me that burning up the Money is a very counterproductive act. Walt has worked so hard to make it and then he destroys it it all. Very symbolic of the entire story I think. Walt is a self destructive individual...

user-pic

Maybe Walt joins that death cult we're hearing about and has to burn the money as part of his initiation. Or maybe he becomes a born again Christian and decides to renounce all material things.

user-pic

Just watched the new promos, and one has provoked a new theory for why Walt burns the money:
Because he can!

And there's one there featuring Walt punching the paper towel holder. I KNEW that was a pivotal scene!

user-pic

worked so hard?

what 4 days out in the desert to make over a million dollars with stuff he & Jess stole from his school and a chemy plant..

It is hard work to go from a tyranny to a democracy.

user-pic

Yes zia Hard work. Walt was dealing with the knowledge that he might be dead in a relatively short time and needed to make sure that he had all the loose ends tied up, as far as his finances go. He was stressed out from the gitgo. Having to rely on Jesse and all his problems, especially JANE...

user-pic

Oh and on Tyranny, you must mean Obama right?

user-pic

The money is counterfeit. Dur!

user-pic

Walt is pretty smart and know's the difference from real printed money US currency to just stuff. He's a chem teacher after all. He's pissed now, he was taken in. He know's that if he passes this money to any bank it will be detected within minute's. Best to burn it.

user-pic

Counterfeit. There is no trust among thieves. Lotz of trust amongst artists who have expansion of great art that know's where and what the money of all countries looks like. Have you folks not read about how much money is counterfeit? Walt know's. Walt also know's that if he spreads this monetary cash crap around he'll be discovered toots suite. Better to burn it than leave it around. Now he'll probably have to sell his under water valued home. The home that he was pretty close to paying off legally prior to being diagnosed with cancer in the first place.

user-pic

Cooking meth is some of the easiest money one can make.

Outside of Tuco.. Walt has killed Jesse friends. maybe it will even out and walt jr., skylar or hank can get killed.

Walt didn't have to keep going .. Gretchen and Elliot offer to pay the medical expenses...and the multi-million dollar house up in Santa Fe.. though it was really in Abq. .. the Bentley ... they had the fat stack already.

Walt is working hard just like Bush did .. getting young people killed for his greed... not much different really

wow .. so he leaves a legacy of slinging dope... something his family can be real proud of????

user-pic

Absolutely, one of my points is meth is very easy to make. Or any other snake oil drug is easy to make. What's not so easy to make is money. Money at least through the various banks in the amount that Walt thought he got in cash that he could use totally disappointed him in the authenticity of it.After all we only saw the alot of money in the back of a trunk.?

user-pic

zia, I think you missed my point. Outside of the process of actually making the Meth, there is all the leg work required to just get that process started. Then Walt has to create a cover story for all the time he is away from his Family just to satisfy Skylar's skeptical mind. That Subterfuge in itself is a major effort. Then as I said, he has to deal with Jesse and all his BS. Then, he has to sell the dope or get Jesse to do his part and sell it and not get busted in the process. Yeah, Now try and tell me after all this, that its not hard work. All that and the Man is also dealing with cancer, I guess coughing up Blood (4-days out) does'nt really drive that point home does it...

user-pic

One last thing, reference what Bryan Cranston says at the end of Breaking Bad Moments 10. "Walt's decision".

user-pic

Not sure where you are talking about RW.got a link?

So life dealt him some crappy cards. does that justify his actions in creating a new business venture that destroys other peoples lifes.

Blackmailing Jesse into being his bitch. ok I can sympathize with it. but who ever said life was fair.
Emilio and Krazy-8 .. I consider self defense.. he was just getting started. BUT due to his pride he didn't GTFO of it.

There was the gold plated offer by G&E.. but not only that he could of gotten treatment in NM under the indigenous fund .. why not all the illegals do there... or even racked up the bills and claim bankruptcy.

Of course it would of been a short lived series :)

NM is a different place than most other states. If it wasn't for the nuclear/aerospace welfare program so deeply entrenched by Pete Dominici it would be the poorest state in the nation.. but we manage to edge out mississippi.

What I'm finding real funny is the film industry .. there mainly due to tax incentive by Richardson. Now the city of Santa Fe wants to build a studio up there .. it because of all those jobs it will create.. what a laugh the only jobs it creates for NMer's is catering and security.

From what I have read lately is that Cali. wants it back and is going to give tax loopholes. Most of the NMer's are seeing that it's not really that good for NM and are sick and tired of footing the bill. So it's going to be a short lived industry for NM.

Don't get me wrong.. you know I love the show. but walt's actions don't justify the means.

i thought saul was laundering the money through flynns savewalterwhite charity, so woudln't that money be legit?

user-pic

geesh, Zia...I had no idea of the problems of the film industry in New Mexico..thanks for the inside word on this...makes one appreciate more and more what this series has had to go through to get it on the air!

Walt is warding off the IRS coming after him when the hospital audit questions how Walt paid for his all medical treatments under a meager Chemistry teacher's salary and doesn't moonlight another job to subsidize his income. No money, poof...all up in smoke....no proof of his added income beyond the medical bills paid.
