New Mexico ?

What's your impression of New Mexico?

Could the show be the same if it were somewhere else?

I asked this very question during one of the talk forums of Vince' earliest interviews. That was weeks ago, and I still have the belief that location of this series is VITAL to making it a hit series.

Let's see...
New York is too Metro, crowded and very hard to park an RV anywhere without getting parking tickets.

Las Vegas is tooooo cheesy, too loud, good for drug distribution, though, and plenty of desert to cook, but too many other dead bodies are buried out in the desert.....as Joe Pesi claims in the movie, " Casino". Las Vegas is too distracting for Walt and Jessie to make drugs with all those gambling casinos around...LOL.

California...too many Hollywood celebs would be lining up to buy their portion of BlueSky and probably would be a large camping ground with multitudes of celebs camping out to be so close to their favorite drug.

Florida....too many druggies with guns, knives, and facing alligators in the back yard when Walt and Jessie came out of the RV for a fresh-air break.

Midwest.....too cold in the winter time to run the RV,using a lot of gas to keep the RV warm enough to cook BlueSky. Walt and Jessie would have to shovel ice and snow, which would waste their time.

South...Yanks are not too welcome even in today's world..hot,humid, and mosquito ridden. Any mosquito accidentally ingesting BlueSky could become the new "killer mosquito" and drain a man's body dry! The vampire BlueSky Mosquito.

All in seriousness, Nope...New Mexico is a perfect location for filming this series as in reality, New Mexico is notorious for its Meth labs all over the state because of its wide open spaces and desert.
Less people, many areas to film without distraction, most of the time the weather is great, quiet and lots of desert to park the RV.
Even Vince and the entire crew believes ALBQ is a great place to do the series.

Oh Linda555, you brought up the South and now I've got a dilly for you...

Why do Southerners drink indoors after dark?

Because it only takes 40,000 mosquitoes to kill a man.

user-pic

Well I can tell you from experience that New Mexico might be an arid place, but they do have mosquitoes there and those little buggers are ferocious.

user-pic

I can also tell you that New Mexico is the PERFECT for this show. Think "splendid Isolation", "flyover country". I mean out here on the West Coast you never hear stories about New Mexico, that's the a big part of the show's allure. New Mexico is like Alaska minus the Polar bears, unless you've actually been there, you never think about the place.

user-pic

zia - Just kidding bro. Why do you think they call it the land of Enchantment, I'll tell you why, because they have Women like Carmen there with that Great ass that makes you want to cry.

user-pic

Oh and another thing. I think there might be an X-files connection there somewhere. Roswell, Flying saucers, Space ships and little green visitors from a land far, far away. I never really followed the X-files, but I did like that Red Head Gillian whats her name, she reminds me of Liz Claman on Fox business news. Be still my beating Heart...

user-pic

I like that I can go over 100mph and not worry about getting a ticket

user-pic

R.W., have you ever really been to New Mexico? And if so, what part?
I am curious because I have lived in a few parts of New Mexico, and I have gotten a total of 2 mosquito bites in the past year.
And yeah zia, the cops are pretty lenient on you as long as you aren't drunk ;) There are just so many drunk drivers out here it's ridiculous.
But anywho, I don't quite see how New Mexico is like Alaska without the polar bears, but unless you are like most of the west coast, (and don't get me wrong, I lived in Northern California most of my life) completely sheltered from anything outside of California, which is partly the fault of media and also West Coast mindset, you hear of New Mexico quite often. Santa Fe, for instance, has a huge artist community, many old Spanish ruins that are just amazingly beautiful, and I love that you can drive from the middle of the desert, into town, or way up in the deep pine forest, and its not further than an hour away. It's just sad it takes a show for people to look around, simply, at the country they live in.

user-pic

BadBreaking - As to your Question, the answer is Yes. I have, also have Family there in Las Cruces. I have an Aunt Uncle and at two cousins. I related this information to zia awhile ago as he lives in NM and we also served at the same RAF Air Base in England, just not at the same time. Now I hope that you did not take offense at my comment, it was not meant to as a slight to New Mexico in any way shape or form. Although I visited New Mexico a long time ago back in the 1970's, I still remember traveling around the state with my parents. I also spent a two weeks summer vacation there in Las Cruces and that is when I was attacked by the flying Pests while sleeping outdoors on cots with my cousins under the New Mexico sky. I think I've seen a lot of New Mexico for someone who does'nt live there. Visited Abq, Santa Fe, Truth or Consequences, Gallup and also visited some Indian cliff dwellings that are unique to New Mexico and Eastern Arizona. The only attraction I missed was the Carlsbad Caverns. Yes you do hear about the Balloon Festival in Santa Fe a lot, but outside of that there is just not a lot of Info on New Mexico in the media. New Mexico is still a basically undiscovered Gem, hope it stays that way also. Oh and by the way I have spent around 3 yrs in Arizona (Military Service) and lived in Northern California for 6 Years, San Mateo and Foster City, the Bay area. Being that I grew up in San Diego, (still a Conservative bastion in California), I discovered that I could never live stay up North. No offense, but its just not a place I could out the rest of my life. I now reside in the South Bay (LA County) for the last 15 Yrs. I have also Traveled through Western Europe several times, Traveled to New Zealand and spent two of the best weeks of my Life there. Have also been to Singapore and Malaysia. So I have been a few places during my lifetime and have not spent my entire life in California. I hope this helps answer your question.

As far as NM is concerned, I think that it is the perfect local for a show like BB. There is a mystic about the place for people who don't live there. Between Santa Fe, Roswell, Alamogordo, and peyote ceremonies, the outsider gets the feeling that NM is indeed the land of enchantment (I'm starting to feel like a travel agent). I think it has to do with the desert. A lot of people are attracted to the desert because they feel a mystical power. Me, I don't like the heat so much so I can't get into it. They may be suffering from heat stroke ;] . I never wanted to go to the desert because I live in a very hot area of CA anyway. I always felt if I want to be hot sweaty and dusty, I'll go sit in the backyard.

While we are talking about the desert, has anyone here seen the movie Grand Theft Parsons? It is a quasi-fictional account of the circumstances surrounding his death and "burial in the desert". Anyone who likes BB would get a kick out of the movie.

Not all of CA is like LA. Here where I live it is sort of rural, lots of vineyards and orchards. In the middle of these vineyards and orchards are little abandoned farmhouses. Neighbors are far and few between, at least 20 to 40 acres away. You get the idea.

user-pic

first epsiode season 3 involves High school.. they film tomorrow

user-pic

okay.. maybe a clarification

first on location .. they have already done studio stuff

user-pic

How do you know this Zia??? Or are you teasing us! LOL

user-pic

I'm in NM Linda.

ok I was kidding about the death meteor..

user-pic

What I am asking is how do you know of the shooting Season 3 of Breaking Bad..are you following them??? LOL

user-pic

can't give out all my secrets ;)

user-pic

aha...so you are stalking the Breaking Bad filming crew via using a telescope or binoculars! LOL

user-pic

maybe that works with your neighbors

user-pic

LMAO, Zia!

Oh yeah...did'nt you once mention something about going to the El Dorado Hotel?

Well, my sister & her hubby, are going to be showing his artwork there, at the Southwest Art Show, this Wednesday through Sunday, during the Santa Fe Indian Market.

I wanted to go, but...gotta work next week. =(

user-pic

Don't even have a pair of binoculars or telescope and if I did, it's none of my business what they do with their lives unless it hits on my property, then it concerns me.

I am curious to how you acquire your info about the filming of Season 3, and because you live in the state where Breaking Bad is film, you must have some method of finding out this information.

user-pic

yeah.. I must have some methods or connection to the film industry out here..huh?

diksee.. yes they are moving all kinds of stuff in the Eldorado.. got a name.. I'll stop by and say hi if you'd like.

they are actually showing in the Eldorado and not in a booth on the plaza?

user-pic

Zia...Yeppers...it's M.S. Franco. And, from what she told me...it's IN the Eldorado.

(I don't want to appear to be "Spamming", by posting his name...but, thought since you were already in Santa Fe...you could at least meet her/them, since I could'nt make it! )

Introduce yourself, as "Zia", (since I don't know your real name) to HER FIRST & that you "know" me from this website.

She'll have an idea of "who" you are...and, she can fill you in, on why I've been so crabby...and, what I've been though lately...it'll explain a few things. =(

Manuel has been TOO focused, on the show, so, if you mention who you are, to HIM right now...he'll just freak about..."WHO on the Internet, wants to KNOW about my lil' Sis?!?"

(Ha ha ha! He's VERY protective of his family...that's the Latino way, huh?)

R.W....if it's not too far & you get the chance, to do some traveling...stop by & introduce yourself, to her/them too! =)

I'd love to "met" ya'll...even if it's only through my Sis!

user-pic

SHIT!! =( I realized TOO freakin' late...that by posting this on a PUBLIC website...SOMEONE ELSE can go up to her & tell her, they are "ya'll"!

Dammit! >=(

Hang on...I'll have to call her & give her a "secret question/answer" ya'll have to give her...

Zia...I think I have YOUR email addy...but, R.W....do you have a profile name at the Breaking Bad website, that Rob has???

If so...lemme know, so I can send you a private message & get your email addy, or, give you the "secret question/answer".

user-pic

diksee - Hi, I'm kind of saddled right now. Had the Water Heater in my House go bad, some leakage, but no real water damage. So I will be grounded until I can get this sorted out. I be will go tank less now like Walter. Thank you for the invite just the same, it would be great to travel back to New Mexico. Need to close for now, R.W.

user-pic

That's alright, R.W....just wanted to give you an invite...even though, I could'nt actually be the one to "meet" you...

Still, I wanted to live vicariously, though my Sister & her hubby! Hah. =\

Good luck, with that water heater...and, darn...thought you had something going, with that "saddled right now" sentence. ;) LOL!

New Mexico is the perfect place for this story to unfold. The intense heat and brutality of the desert is a metaphor of our modern life. No matter where you live, natural forces are always working against you. Walt’s cancer is another metaphor of this “attack from the outside world”syndrome. We have all felt the “its you and me against the world” feeling. The desert just makes it that much more in your face. You can really die out there!! Also. New Mexico is a land of misunderstood stereotypes and mystery. From the atom bomb to UFOs to Cowboys and Indians or Billy the Kid, New Mexico has lots of excitement. At the same time, New Mexico is as modern as any place else. They have crimes, fast food, drugs, gangs, airports, shopping, families, highways and so on. So everyone can find an anchor and feel ay home with the show and join in.
The show would be less intense if located anywhere else..

user-pic

Great analysis of the desert and Walt's cancer, bullieboi. Great Metaphor. I amazed at what other Breaking Bad fans keep thinking of when most of us think we have drained all the theories and ideas of this series and then someone else comes up with another great idea.

user-pic

This story is kind of strange. Will North Korea play a role in season three?

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/32465456/ns/politics-white_house/

user-pic

If you recall, North Korea is notorious for making and selling meth. Their ships meet submarines and exchange drugs for badly needed cash. Could there be a North Korean, New York, New Mexico connection. If so, LOOK WALT!!!!

user-pic

Poppa-Son Walt ;)

default userpic

In ABQ your either super straight or beautifully bad. There is no in between. Walt finds out how explosive his actions can be and is reminded that, just as in chemistry as in life, some reactions are unpredictable and some results are not instant and cannot be reversed. Flynn becomes his fathers mirror image, demanding respect and learning how to successfully live two lives. Hence - Walt Jr. and Flynn. More Flynn Please!!!!!! Sadly enough the police is depicted perfectly in this season to the real APD. Blind, Clueless, and a whole lotta laughs. If this season lives up to its true setting in ABQ, we know New Mexico is really -The Land Of Entrapment-, so leaving this Rulette table and trying another game is out of the question. Only a higher gamble can follow, and with nothing to loose Walt goes big and puts all his money on blood. I Smell Gunfire.... and a lot of it!!!!!!
