Is Vince Gilligan a fan of "The Who"?

I have to give credit to Walkercolt for this one. After reading a comment he left on a previous thread about whether Vince Gilligan was a fan of the Rock Band "The Who", I beleive he is. I love the music of "The Who", grew up listening to it. When I started thinking about this question more, it Clicked. I look at the Character of Jesse and see Jimmy from "Quadrophenia". The Baggy coats and all, awkward, never quite fitting in. I can see Jesse now riding that Vespa Motor scooter with all the chrome and mirrors. Like Jimmy from Quadrophenia, Jesse is all F'ed up on Drugs and living aimlessly for today. And if I were going to assign a theme song from Quadrophenia to Jesse it would have to be "I'm one".

I would guess Vince is very influenced and inspiried by music when plotting this show, R.W. In another previous thread, I mentioned hearing Greg Allman's "Midnight Rider" and how it made me picture Jesse (or it could be Walt or another character), running from the law or a threat, with that song playing in the background. "Love Reign O'er Me" from "Quadrophenia" would work well in that kind of situation, too.

rockmama - Agreed, music does have a prominent influence in some of the episodes. Midnight Rider, Now that's a great Tune. Saw the Almond Bro's, Marshall Tucker and the Outlaws together, without a doubt that was one of the best outdoor shows I ever attended.

I latched onto the excellent music at the end of (I forget which episode in Season 1, maybe the finale) when they faded out with "The Hole" by Glen Phillips. You might remember if I do some lyrics:
"Behind the house the ground has opened up
And it’s so deep a hole its bottom can’t be found
It sucks the air inside
And makes quiet sea sounds
We sometimes stand and linger at the edge
We like to dare each other how close we can get
And there’s a pact we’ve made
If one should fall the other follows in."
What an outstanding choice in music! Whoever picks the scores is top-notch, A#1.

Saw The Who in Amsterdam, August of '72. Don't remember that much of it, was higher then a kite. I was getting old fast, and it was nice to be on R&R and not in country.
