Why were Walt's Glasses in the pool?

In a previous episode Walt's glasses (or at least what looked a lot like them) were pulled out of the pool by an OMI agent during the B/W sequence. Could there be more to this scene that involves Walt's usual scheming?

Also, after watching the footage of Jane's Dad communicating with the planes a couple times it seems clear that the collision was not an accident...He's staring at the screen and communicating directly with the two objects: JM021 and WAF515 moments before they collide. There's no way he could not have known. Maybe he broke bad...

One last thing: why where the OMI / NTSB agents wearing gas masks at Walt's house? Would they really be recovering wreckage all suited up like that?

My belief is that Jane's dad just plain cracked under the strain of the recent death of his daughter. I don't see this man being vindictive to create a massive crash, but just portraying a broken man grieving for the loss. People do strange things when going through the grieving process almost like as if they were in a fog or daze and in this scene, I felt Jane's father was in a daze, a fog and finally realizing her death.

Donald may be in the first stage of grief: disbelief. He hasn't gotten angry yet, but I kind of agree. Donald didn't seem like a vindictive type, but he could get angry. Remember the day he discovers Jane is using, he goes after Jesse. I still think Donald is in the stunned stage - we just haven't seen the anger/rage over Jane's death yet - it might be next season.

I agree with both of you about Donald. As far as character analysis goes it would seem very hard to believe that Donald would do such a thing on purpose. But the way the scene plays out it appears as if Donald is guiding both of them simultaneously to their collision. There's a lot of flight jargon mixed in the dialogue that makes the scene confusing, perhaps on purpose...

Also I wanted to correct my statement about Walt's glasses since my memory is foggy. I don't think the glasses were pulled out of the pool but they were definitely shown in an evidence bag laying in the pool area. Maybe they're part of the wreckage but that would be insane coincidence...

The other character who wears glasses is Gus, but his are different from Walt's. The glasses in the evidence bag by the pool look more like Walt's, but may have fallen from the crash. Maybe Walt is injured by falling debris. And what about the protective clothing? It can't be related to the meth lab, since it is located in the RV, not at Walt's house. Was one of the airplanes carrying hazardous materials? Is it normal procedure to clean up an accident site in protective suits and masks?

That's why I think the season ended just perfect. Who really knows if any of the evidence and the hazmat suits have anything significant to do with the main plot? It will most certainly set up an unbelievable start to season 3, even if they never revisit the plane crash again. The situation with Skyler alone is enough to make us brainstorm up all kinds of wacky crap. What about Walter Jr? How is he going to handle it all? I see this next season having the perfect balance of family tensions running hot, but also Walt will seemingly have the privacy he always wanted.. so he can really set Heisenberg loose for once.. This season will be hitting us all like a ton of bricks next year.. Can't wait

outsitsw: I could see Walt Jr. starting to get in trouble with drinking too much alcohol. He was already in trouble for trying to buy beer with his friends, and Walt Sr. encouraged him to take tequila shots, giving some tacit approval without a whole lot of guidance about how much is too much.

We didn't see what happened after the splash in his pool.

He could still get hit with wreckage raining down on him.

I might go back and watch the B&W scenes at the beginning of those episodes, see if there's any tell-tale signs of an explosion or whatnot in the backyard.

In August 1987 Northwest Flight 255 crashed one mile due west of my house taking off out of Detroit Metro Airport. 154 souls perished. One four year old girl survived. The crash happened about 9:00pm. The next morning all the firemen and NTSB working to remove the dead wore full body suits with gas masks. The winds were from the west that morning. I will never, ever forget that smell. It was horrific. Yes, they wear full suits and masks.
As for Donald routing the planes: When he called to JM021, he mistakenly said "Jane"-Mike-Zero-Two-One instead of Juliet-Mike-Zero-Two-One. Freudian slip or deliberate act? We really know nothing about Donald's past other then he too attends AA/NA meetings, yet drinks on the side. Unless that was an "Open Speaker" AA/NA meeting, he wouldn't have been there. He'd be at Al-Anon or Narc-Anon meetings to learn to cope with his daughters addictions. Unless he too is a recovering alcoholic/addict that slipped when he learned of his daughters relapse. Man, this show is just SO great. Donald (John DeLancie) has been one of my favorite actors since he played "Q" on Star Trek-The Next Generation (one of the best aliens ever in Sci-Fi). Other threads are complaining about this finale being weak. I think it's brilliant. So many possibilities.

Read what Vince Gilligan said about the glasses and the other stuff that fell from the planes:
