Should Vince be concerned about "us" being sympathetic towards Walt ?

In the AMC website video "Inside Breaking Bad: A Look Ahead" , Vince states " The further we go down this road of him being a criminal the more we naturally worry , is he going to remain sympathetic to us ?"

My question is should the writers be worried about keeping Walt "sympathetic to us" or could that worry only impact the path that the character should take ? Could Vince's concern end up softening the shows direction ? After all Walt is an interesting character involved in an interesting train wreck ... would we be able to turn away even if we became un-sympathetic ?

My hopes are that Vince continues to take the big chances and continues with the disfiguration of Walt's character !

Walt will probably go down a darker road, since events have happened to him, enduring cancer and surviving its terror, braving Tuco and his violence, lying to his family and keeping secrets, seeing people die horrifically, Sklyer leaving him....etc. This is new territory for Walt, displaying the darker side of himself as a "Heisenberg", a monster, a Frankenstein rebuilt from a normal, average citizen providing for his family. We see him change before our eyes. Walt WILL explore and push the limits more of the darker side of his nature because as time pass, it gets easier and easier to be the villian. As long as we are convinced that Walt has a reasonable justification for his actions to continue down that dark road..its understandable and Walt has our sympathy. Outright violence and hurting innocents without a reason, makes him the devils deciple. Vince might test our ability to sympathize with Walt if he makes Walt an uncaring monster. Its a turning point for Vince and his staff to make Season 3 and determine which side of Walt will show.

I hope Vince is able to continue this series with his fresh and original appeal that inticed all of us from the begining and able to keep us guessing in Season 3. Introducing Hollywood types at this point is cheesy and takes away from the uniqueness of the series. Breaking Bad is unparalleled to any other series of its kind and hope Vince doesn't stray from the formula.

LInduh - You're back. So have you found Jessie Pinkerman yet? (Reference your Question of 24 June) - Now, your comment from above "This is new territory for Walt displaying the darker side of himself as a "Heisenberg", a monster, a Frankenstien rebuilt from a normal, average citizen providing for his family". First of all you are implying that Heisenberg is rebuilt from Walter White, this dose not work. Walter White can change into a Heisenberg, like when a Caterpillar Metamorphoses into a Butterfly. If I recall Vince made a reference to this in one of his early episode break downs. You might be able to rebuild the character of Walt, but Heisenberg is a complete break from the original character. Walter is able to (Change) into Heisenberg, but not be rebuilt as Heisenberg.

Well... Vince and the writers are pretty bold in the way they continue to let Walt drift into the darkside... I think they will most likely continue that, because that is their meal ticket..

I think Jessie will however, try to redeem himself in Season 3, but realize it is a lost cause...

If it ain't broke...don't fix it!

Oh wait! Walt DID break! My bad! =\ Ha ha ha.
I may be wrong, but in my mind, his persona has completely splintered/shattered.
Even a whole case of Crazy Glue, ain't gonna fix him anytime soon! ;)

Sorry Linda...but, I've got to agree with R.W.. If Walt was rebuilt into Heisenberg...would'nt he have to be Heisenberg the all the time? =\

Actually, maybe the Walt/Heisenberg combination might be better described as an oil & vinegar mixture?
Two personalties, in one cut-glass cruet bottle, but, the two never are actually one. (Lead salad, anyone?? Ha ha!)

Ummmm...wait! Then, that would'nt really describe a "break"! OWWWW! My brain...MY BRAIN!!! It's having to THINK too much!!! Hah!

*Sigh* I'm not making any sense...that often happens in my case! Hah! KNOW what I want to say, but, it usually does'nt translate into words! =(

Seriously though, I love the show for it's edge & dark humour...plus, all the completely unexpected twists & turns!
If Vince were to "soften up" Breaking Bad...we might as well be reduced to watching all the other One-Dimensional shows, the other channels air, and only getting milque-toast...and, not the Steak-n-Taters, that Breaking Bad provides!

So, to Vince & the cast & crew: Keep going BIG...and, don't ever go home!!! ;)

I do agree with Linda, about Nimrod posting some great questions, to make us think! (Even if they did hurt my brain! Ha ha ha!)

AMC shows 5 MINUTES of commercials for every 10 MINUTES of movie time!

2 minutes of commercials would make a decent ratio. But the way things are, it seems like AMC doesn't respect their viewers and only cares about cashing in on ridiculously long commercial breaks.

Problem with the commericals..that's the bread and butter for AMC. Those commericals are sponsors that support all the shows we like to see.
