Yes, dbemamor, I do see your point of the similarities of "Breaking Bad" with "Hung". The little bit I have seen of "Hung", tends to be less violent, but both series denotes a simple average man trying to make a living, both teachers, raising their children best they can in today's crazy world and needing large amounts of money to stablize their families's lifestyle of house and home.
"Weeds", another series similar to "Breaking Bad" dealing with a drug cartel, has a more of a violent side, and understandably dealing with slimy underground drug lords and cartels.
Doesn't it appear to be strange that these three series, portrays people in dire straits, needing large amounts of money, finds unconventional methods, against the rules of society, to get the money they need for basic survival???
The general theme seems to be, at any cost, what does one do to keep the family together and remain a stable, well-adjusted family?
I watched the premiere of "Hung" and noticed some similarity in tone to "Breaking Bad." (One review called it a "combination of "Breaking Bad" and the movie, "Boogie Nights." LOL). But "Hung" is nowhere near as deep and layered as "Breaking Bad." I'll keep watching, at least for awhile - mostly because it's on right after "True Blood," which actually is a pretty original and stylish show - but I doubt "Hung" will ever be on my "appointment television" list.
That certainly is a combination of comparsions between Breaking Bad and Boogie Nights..not sure I would agree with that one. So far, I do like "Hung" because it's comical and subtle than Breaking Bad, but I will most definitely wait for Season 3. I like "Hung" far better than "Weeds" which tries to be similar to "Breaking Bad" but misses by long mile as being good. Weeds tends to wander with weak lines and bad acting...Just doesn't have that "ring" to it as Breaking Bad. So I will opt out from watching Weeds. For one, thing, I think "Weeds" is poorly cast from the start and doesn't seem to connect the characters and the plot very well. Breaking Bad should kick that series out of the running for Emmy's.
