Feeding the Monster
As Heisenberg gains more of a foothold over Walt's personality and makes more appearances in his everyday and criminal life, what will Walt do to "feed the monster" inside? The ante goes up as the dark feelings grow, and to feel more empowered, Walt will have to resort to more extreme actions and behavior to satiate those feelings.
What do you think those actions would be? Will anybody notice or call him on it? Would Jesse?
In his drug dealings, for example, Walt is currently using verbal threats to intimidate, and feels pretty powerful afterward. As time goes on, I figure in this world, Walt will resort to more lethal methods to get that same feeling. Walt could end up being an excellent poisoner to get his message across rather than guns, to feel empowered and achieve his ends. The possibilities are endless.......

If he's going to escalate to that level, he's probably going to have to do it pretty soon. He will definitely be called upon to walk the walk if he's gonna talk the talk whenever the Boys from Juarez show up! He can have all the dark feelings and verbal threats in the world, those guys don't give a shit. They'll wipe out him and his family at the drop of a hat, simply because he's making and selling better meth than they are.
With the Intelligence he has, He always thinks, or comes up with a brilliant plan to get out of tight situations without violence or weapons. Look at the past episodes. He probably would use Jesse for his strong arm. But then again, Jesse doesn't like violence either.
But in the end, money can do crazy things to the mind.
After his failed attempt to poison Tuco, I think Walt with be prepared for any eventualities in the future. Either poisoning, gassing or bombing his victims.
He's so sharp as a chemist, I don't think any future enemies will have a clue what he's up to. It's his method of delivery that needs more finesse. How to get it to, or near, the intended target.
Think about it - Walt already has used those three methods.
He initially gassed Krazy8 and his cousin (Emilio) in the RV to render them helpless.
He bombed Tuco's headquarters to get the money Tuco owed him and Jesse.
He tried to poison Tuco, unsuccessfully, to get out of a jam.
I think he's going to prepare himself very well, in the future, to protect himself and his family. The one who is left vulnerable, and could end up being a liability to Heisenberg because of that vulnerability, is really Jesse, because he's not with Walt at all times. Of course, the same could be said for Walt's family, in their comings and goings.
Hysterically, once again Walt kind of shows no common sense.
It's one thing to go toe-to-toe with Hank at a pool party in a stare-down. Quite another to confront two strangers in a dark parking lot with a warning/threat. Either guy could've pulled a knife or gun and ended that tete-a-tete pretty quickly. For them, end of problem with the bald guy. That's what I mean by foolish, but maybe the grapevine in the meth business is pretty extensive, and Heisenberg's reputation is well known to all the cookers, dealers, and users.
You know, I would REALLY love to see Walt poison somebody (a bad guy preferably!) with that ricin laced meth! Tio would've been a perfect first candidate - I could see him tipped over in his wheelchair on his side, remnants of the burrito hanging out of his foaming mouth, convulsing like crazy, and ringing that stupid ass bell! All the while Tuco'd be like "Tio! What is wrong? Tio! Tio!"
I agree with Jamm54, Heisenberg will use yet another "tweak of chemistry" to try to escape from any future dangerous situations, and who knows how far the tweaks of chemistry will go.............I'm seriously starting to think that's what happens in the house to shatter windows and create two body bags out front/
HUNGER GET, WHAT HUNGER WANTS!!
Sorry...that just kinda slipped out! =(
Seriously, though...jamm, bigfreakinnaz & Aaron, you all, have brought up some good points & insights!
That does make sense, about Walt having to become more extreme, to continue to get the rush he's feeling.
Thanks for some great reading! =)
Awwww...I kinda have a soft-spot, for Tio!
jamm
Either guy could've pulled a knife or gun and ended that tete-a-tete pretty quickly.
Same goes for Heisenburg... I used to work with a guy in the East Mountains... his nickname was "Gramps" and certainly he looked the part.
He was armed to the gills... still is I'm sure. i pity the fool that messes with him ;)
I don't know if the law has been changed out here or not, I was gone for a couple of years... to rephrase another movie line...
Permits??... We don't need no stinking Permits
In those previous situations (Krazy 8, Tuco), Walt resorted to chemistry by instinct and to get out of a immediate life or death jam.
What I think will be interesting is when it's not a pressing situation that requires an immediate reaction.
When Walt starts to plan and stockpile his chemicals for different uses/situations (not meth) to retaliate, and either likes it or gets a thrill out of it because he'll feel so powerful with his chemistry knowledge - well, that's going to be exceptionally scary. Sort of like the Unabomber. He'll feel invincible, thrilled, powerful, and loving it.
When I think of Walt feeding the monster inside, for some reason I also think of The Little Shop of Horrors and the plant that repeatedly keeps saying
"Feed me........Feed me........FEED ME!"
Heisenberg is seriously gonna be a powerful man in the meth dealing life.
Aaron, you're right, money can do crazy things to the mind. But while money was Walt's initial motive for getting into the meth business, it's now the 'high' of power he's after. He's telling the guy in the home improvement store that money is 'not an issue' in choosing a water heater, and his future to provide for his family is now looking indefinite. But it's the hunger for power, or more correctly, the feeling of empowerment that is bringing about the end of Walter White and the permenant emergence of his alter ego, Heisenberg.
Also, I think Heisenberg will eventually see Jesse as a serious liability that must be dealt with (As Tony Soprano did with Christopher) but hopefully that will be a year or more down the road. The only person I think who could throw any cold water on Heisenberg and have a chance of turning him back into Walter White is Walter, Jr. I don't think Skyler will be able to do it for much longer. Consider the effect that Walter, Jr. had on his dad when he proudly said "I kept up, though, right?" Walt was apologizing to his son for his behavior, but his son's only concern was that he was able to keep up pace drinking with the big boys. Bryan Cranston had an excellent moment choking back emotion. This moral brake that Walter, Jr. has the ability to apply on his father will, I believe, keep Walter, Jr. safely in the show for the forseeable future. I don't think, as some have suggested, that Jr. will be one of the victims in the body bags in the black and white sequence with the pink teddy bear.
I think that Skyler may have an affair. Walter Sr. may have one, too. (Remember the attractive vice-principal telling him that he could talk to her about anything?) But Walter, Jr. will provide the moral tether to hold his father's soul. Or break what's left of his heart.
sweetposey You don't think Jesse would have any influence on dissuading Walt or the course of his heart?
As Walt's cancer falls into remission, it's become apparent that Heisenberg is the more lethal malady. Ironically, Jesse (through Jane's affections) is filling in the empathetic role of the two. The last three episodes of season two will liekly see this transformation of the fly-by-night cartel's two founding fathers alter completely.
sweetposey:
in the interview with RJ Mitte, he mentions that Walter Jr. will be like Heisenberg.
perhaps he's gonna help his dad?
Well, jamm, looks like we'll get to see, who's on the menu tonight...I'm sure, they will be served, extra rare!
Bon appétit, Heisenberg! ;)
Now...will someone please pass, the A-1???
LOL LOL!
Make that a Combo platter...what would you like to drink, with that??? =(
That was SO sad....
Good pun, on the Combo platter, diksee! I was really sickened over Jesse, and even Walt. Like watching two train wrecks at once.
I think Gus the chicken-guy will be shown to (both us and walt) what the next rung on the ladder looks (and acts) like
I think Gus is going to show us just exactly what it takes to not only become Heisenberg but also what it takes to maintain the power that "a" Heisenberg personality requires
I seriosuly think that what we have been shown of Gus is just the tip of the iceberg
He has much, much more to lose than Walt does and perhaps a little digging on Hank's part may show just how many body bags Gus has filled
The fact that a newborn baby is now part of a growing family will make Walt very vulnerable to his (Heisenberg's) enemies
I think Gus will take Walt under his wing (since Walt is so damned good at what he does) and at the same time let him know that he (Walt) is still and always a 'nobody' who is, despite his cooking talents, is very replaceble.
The next two episodes are going to be some of the hottest television in quite some time
Oh, Jesse...JESSE! I hate to say it, but he's lost now. I wish he'd never met Jane. She is an opportunist if ever I've seen one.
In spite of what happened, I loved Jesse's floating body. Cinematography should win an award for that one! It reminded me of the movie, "Vertigo". Check it out and see what you think.

BTW, would it be possible to not post spoilers here in the open thread? If you want to do it elsewhere, that's fine, but let's keep this thread free, OK?
Maybe they can put a SPOILER section in the forum for people who want to do that. It is kind of crummy to have it in the open thread where people aren't looking for that kind of information. But human nature - look, look, I've got the inside scoop!
When the topic See Jane Jump Off a Cliff.... was posted May 15, I commented, but I see AMC pulled the topic immediately (like that nite), and put it back up today (May 18) to prevent that.
The cinematography of Jesse's drug hallucination was fantastic, I agree. Nice work! Loved the accompanying song with it.
Jamm: OMG!! I loved that scene, with Jesse floating, too!! That music DID add, just the right touch!!! =) LMAO!!!
I'm a bit confused...
DRKellogg, whom were you referring to, about posting a "Spoiler"??
Was it in this particular thread, of jamms'?? (And, addressing it to me, about my "Combo Platter" post? Thought I waited, long enough for the episode to air, on the West Coast...)
Or, are you talking about, the Open Thread that Clayton puts up???
diksee DR Kellogg wasn't referring to you specifically, more generally. As we've been getting closer to the end of the season, many people have been posting spoilers in the open thread and throughout the forum.
Some not really spoilers because you can see from AMC's preview pics (like Jane in the "Mandala" episode putting a needle in Jesse's arm) and the preview videos what the general gist of the episode is going to be.
But there have been a couple spoilers written out in the open thread that have really blown open the doors of the plot points of future episodes. It'd be better if someone wants to give a heads up on a spoiler in the open thread to direct those interested to a specific spoiler website rather than writing it all out in the forum where it's kind of hard not to read. Haven't seen you do anything like that.
Heck, even I posted a spoiler this week. I quoted from Aaron Paul's interview in this week's TV Guide May 18-31 about his character's state-of-mind. I figured it was okay because it was on the newsstands and didn't give away any plot details, but maybe I shouldn't have done that. We all like to give out the juicy news!
LOL jamm!!! That's cute, about giving out juicy news!!! =D
IMO..."Spoilers" don't ruin it for me...they only ADD to my anticipation!
(Then again...I'm the type, that reads the last chapter, first, when reading books! ha ha!)
HOWEVER, I DO understand, that EVERYONE is different, in their approach, to suprises.
And, will try to respect their wishes...any tidbits I give out, are totally unintentional!
I come in peace! =)
And...
Viva la Difference!!!
I think it's when a key plot point has been given away that hasn't been obvious from AMC's preview pics/videos that upsets people. Otherwise, sticking close to the subject of AMC's preview pics/videos, shouldn't bother others. It's available on the BB website.
Actually, although I hate to admit it, I meant to make my post in the open thread, but I was in a hurry and ended up posting it here accidentally. I wasn't referring to anyone specific. I don't mind the "spoilers" that AMC gives us, but I don't want to know anything else ahead of time.
I think there should be a spoiler thread and then I can make the choice to not read it. What I'm talking about is people writing a post and then saying, "Oh, that was a spoiler by the way."
Jesse's floating scene reminded me alot of certain scenes in Trainspotting, a movie about; you guessed it, heroin addicts.
I haven't seen Trainspotting, but I really like Ewan MacGregor. Don't know why I've never rented it. I guess I was under the impression that it was hard to understand the dialog because of the accents from a review I read. Hard enough that the reviewer suggested subtitles. Anyone know if that's true?
