Season 2 Episode 4 - Open Thread
Talk about Episode 4, "Down."

Woo-Hooooo!!!!! 10 minutes........can't wait.......
holy sh*t
WHERE is Skyler going??
Jesse kicks ass........hahahahahaha HELLLL YEAAAAAAAAAA
A few more clues about Jesse's house and the relationship with his aunt.
Dang, all the women are cold in this episode!!
It makes me want to be really, really nice to all the people in my life so they don't snap off on me!
show is kick @$$, cant get enough, wonder how they're gonna get back in the game? Wonder if tow truck dude is gonna get paid? Love the show keep it up!
I really felt bad for Pink in this one. It seems all the bad decisions and broken trusts caught up to him. He lost all credibility with everyone and can't catch a break even though he really needs them. Him joining the blue man group was funny. He smelled so bad that he had to wear a gas mask to sleep. lol
A slower, catch-our-breaths episode.
I guess the tables have turned with Walt and Skyler. She leaves and he's trying to patch, patch, patch, and now he's in the position of wondering the same things she was wondering earlier. Where are you going, where were you, talk to me, etc. At this particular point, Skyler is the sympathetic character of the two.
But Jesse, oh, Jesse . . . I knew him in my real life, although in my experience, his "twin" wasn't as ambitious or fast-thinking in the promises area. Right now, I feel like Jesse's former chemistry teacher is taking very unfair advantage of him--Walt originally approached Jesse to get this ball rolling and threatened to turn him in if he didn't agree to help him. Now Jesse is scraping bottom (literally) and Walt is letting him down. He appears to feel he owes the kid nothing but Jesse still breaks my heart. And Vince Gilligan is so parsimonious with the crumbs he feeds to us--not a criticism, honest! A VERY clever and skilled writer, but for crying in the night--with a book, you can read the next chapter if you want to stay up a little later. With television, we're at your mercy. Now we learn that Jesse took care of Aunt Whoever, although not quite as well as he remembers, and that's how he came by the privilege to live in her house. And we're learning that he didn't OWN it. That was a major surprise.
Please Vince, don't leave us hanging out here.
Arron Paul looked like he was making a run for the Emmy in this episode. Whoa!
I didn't get the opening, takiing the stuff out of the pool and putting it in evidence envelopes. Usually, they show you the first minute and it ends up making sense at the end, but I didn't get it.
The opening is really a teaser for something we will see later in the season. It started in the pilot.
Nice job Alexis pulling out "parsimonious" one or my favorite words. I think I'll use it all day now.
Mr. Bill--unless you're putting a big elbow in my ribs , you're welcome. :) It popped up out of my old brain which is like a big hard drive that's been around awhile and needs to be defragged.
AMH
so......Skylar's messin round with the nosey guy in the convenience store whos watchin Walt/Jesse @ the beginning..........she knows more than he thinks for sure.......can't wait to see what all the intro's w/ the teddy bear mean.......
Well the opening montage certainly intrigued me. It's the fuzzy pink bear again, and whoever is laying stuff out along the pool, one of the bags was labeled Evidence and the last bag has Walt's glasses in it.
Another AWESOME ep! However, I've lost some respect for Skyler for putting baby Holly at risk by smoking. Why the H is she punishing an unborn child for Walt's goings-on? Don't think she's doing anything during these unknown trips "out" - - she's just punishing Walt. Did you spot Walt's glasses in one of the evidence bags in the opening teaser? We probably won't find out what it's all about till the season finale - - it ain't gonna be pleasant whatever it is.
I wonder how Clovis is going to get back at Jesse for busting the Cookmobile out of his impound lot.
CRAZY
another great episode! i didnt catch the part that led up to the *69, i only saw the dial and the phone on the counter ring...was that walters "other phone" catching him in antoher lie? Cant wait for the next episode..you know things cant be good for that baby on the way. oh and poor Jessie, from bad to worse and blue poo smell for gods sake!
Skyler really is sticking it to Walt. What's good for the goose, is good for the gander....
Walt has been pre-empted out of the family, and they're definitely treating him that way. Skyler's constantly leaving, and Junior calling himself Flynn (actually not a bad idea considering where this is going - he may not want to be Flynn White, either, after his father is arrested for being the best meth cook in Albuquerque).
Walt and Jesse leave so many loose ends hanging (i.e. Juarez Boys, Tio, Clovis, Badger), and never bring it up again between each other. Sort of like, out of sight, out of mind. Did Jesse even mention what he did to get the RV back to Walt? They sure don't clean up their messes until their messes come back to bite them in the ass (Krazy 8, Tuco, Tio). Foresight and strategizing are not either of their strong points as businessmen or criminals.
I JUST LOVE THE WRITING, VINCE YOU ARE A MASTER....SKYLAR IS BEING A SELF-RIGHTEOUS B...BUT HEY SHE SEEMS TO BE ETERNALLY PREGNANT, WHEN IS SHE GOING TO HAVE HER BABY, AND WHAT'S UP WITH THE SMOKING THING, COME ON SKYLAR I KNOW YOU'RE STRESSED OUT, BUT DANG!! ALSO, WALT IS SO PREOCCUPIED WITH RETURNING TO NORMALCY (WHATEVER THAT IS!) THAT HE FAILS TO EVEN ASK HOW SKYLAR'S PREGNANCY COMING ALONG, OR MENTION ANYTHING ABOUT THEIR BABY, WHAT IS THEIR RELATIONSHIP THAT SHALLOW!
Walt should just get used to the cold shoulder and get back in the lab. Skler's character wouldn't be receptive of his way of providing security for his family before he dies. She will understand later when she realizes that she can avoid giving Hank a BJ payment for repair on that leaky water heater.Posthumous thanks.........Great Season So Far..More Cookin....More Action
yes its true! im just here to comment on this show. i can find myself in both of these fuct up charactors.
i might take it a little too far and lash out on my best of friends, but i dont realize that they are in just as much in need of help as myself.
You know the opening scenes with the pink bear that's half singed? I think I know what that's all about! I won't spoil it for you, but I will give you a hint on what I think will happen.
It has something to do with the meth lab...
Wewt!!! Breaking Bad for the win! Can't wait until next week!!! *ecstatic*
I literally choked on my wiener when Jesse fell into the PortaPotty! I couldn't quit laughing long enough to swallow!
I was intrigued when Walt did a double-take on his cashflow-did he pause to take a bigger half, or has someone been in his stash?
I finally got my husband to watch it with me last night-another fan in the making!
This show is amazing.
The writing is just...amazing.
I never saw that coming, with her smoking whilst pregnant.
I honestly thought she was meeting some other guy or something along the lines of an affair.
I'm so glad it wasn't that, but I was still left feeling cold watching her puff that cig.
Wow.
Great, great show.
Wow.... that episode was like coming down off a high. But, it had to be done. It couldn't just keep going and going. They needed to hit a baseline and now the fun starts again. I have to say of all the episodes, this episode was the most depressing and probably my least favorite. I have watched them all previous to this at least twice, probably three times for season one. This episode had to be done at this point in time but it was just blah. It did explain some things.
I do have a complaint though. Going back to the preview of the show at the end of the previous weeks show, I almost felt that they filmed things a certain way in this episode for the simple fact of creating a preview that would reel in viewers. All the stuff like the guy coming into the camper with the gun and Jesse wearing the mask at the time. How it played out and what it looked like in the preview were way off. I'd rather they not emphasize things for the sake of a better preview. I almost have made a decision to not watch the previews anymore. Because every time something would happen not like the preview at all, I just got the feeling they filmed it that way to butter up the preview. I hope they don't lose focus. I understand they want new viewers, but I am not so sure that is the way to get them.
Somebody mentioned their husband finally started watching. I would say that episode is too unlike the other episodes and not a good sampling of the show. I wouldn't want that episode to be my first episode. I would suggest anybody that is late to the series to buy or rent season one and catch up. I wouldn't start a third of the way through season two. You need to see the rest for yourself. Last night's show wasn't bad and as I said, it was needed to tie things together, but it wouldn't make a lot of sense to somebody watching the show for the first time.
As far as the opening, if you remember correctly, the first episode of the season had that same bunny in the pool. Now, a third of the way in, they are showing a little more of what is to come. As the season moves along, we will probably see more bits of this and it will all come together in the last show of the season. The opener doesn't necessarily show the last minute of that particular show as one person said. It shows a glimpse of something forthcoming, but it may not be until the end of the season. I'll bet somehow the RV gets blown up. Do they make a bad batch? Does the tow truck guy blow it up? Who knows, but that looks to be the end of the season being teased.
So now we know Skyler has her own secret, probably one among many. Maybe it isn't just the smoking. Maybe she is having an affair. Maybe the baby isn't even Walters. Maybe this has been going on for months or years and she was getting ready to leave him anyway. Wouldn't that be something if the family he is trying to secure actually turns around and shits on him? Maybe she was going to come out with the affair before he came out with his cancer. Now she figures she'll just wait. Whatever her bigger secret is, I think it has been going on for a while. Man oh man, what if that isn't his baby?
I love the show.
It could be that Skyler got a part-time job somewhere to help make ends meet, and doesn't want Walt to know about it, possibly fearing that it might cause him feelings of uselessness or something. She knows that Walt is pretty much old school, and it might really wreck him if he found out that his pregnant wife is the breadwinner of the family instead of him. She shouldn't be smoking, but she may feel that a ciggy might calm her stress a bit. How about the lady in the car next to her giving her the stink-eye for lighting up, like this woman is concerned about her! THIS added to a program full of uncaring people throwing any caution to the wind with their decisions to do all those unsavory things in their lives?
I'll have to go back and look again, but wasn't the stuffed toy in the pool in S2-EP1 burnt on the LEFT side, with the LEFT eye missing which gets sucked into the pool skimmer? In last night's episode it looks like the RIGHT side of the toy is burnt, and the RIGHT eye is missing. I couldn't make out all the items in the plastic bags laid out at the side of the pool, but along with Walt's glasses was Skyler's hair brush, which she was using in last night's episode.
That Badger's cousin the Tow Truck Guy is gonna really screw Jesse, since he did that dumbass stunt taking the RV without paying for all that was done to it. You know he'll call the cops and tell them what all was inside of it, including that drum of that chemical Jesse and Walt stole. I think that Tow Truck Guy is being too much of a prick not letting him pay a couple days later, but instead immediately on the phone trying to find buyers for all the stuff inside.
What really interested me about this episode is that we got a direct comment about Walter Jr.'s disability, what he can/can't do, and how Walter Sr. deals with it. He says rather harshly, "Your legs work fine," but he also tries to sound positive when he says, "Don't set limits for yourself." I know that Vince Gilligan wanted to show how disabililty can just blend into the background and become a non-issue, but I keep waiting for it to become an Issue. Walter and Skyler treat their son really normally, but there has to be some old family drama lurking somewhere. Maybe it will come up in relation to Skyler's secret smoking and how it could affect the baby.
Wow! Wow! Wow! Finally Jesse had had enough of being put down by everyone, and Walt's comments were the straw that broke the proverbial camels back. What a realistic scene when he attacks Walt. Finally a little respect from the prof. Get's some cash as well as breakfast.
Does Aaron do all of those stunts? Falling through the roof of the latrine had to be a little dicey. lol
Great show Vince.
You're right, SKOTLEY, about this week's episode being an atypical show. Luckily, my son bought the first season for me on my birthday!
My hubby saw some parts of shows, and thought it was too intense...this is a good one to start with:).
Can't wait to get him to the tv next sunday...
Does anyone else remember the quick scene, I think in 2nd Series, 2nd Episode, when Skyler was going through a box of her stuff, and she came across a framed photo of a guy - not Walter? She gazed at it wistfully. I don't think she's having an affair yet, but she is definitely headed in that direction. She was Walt's second choice for a mate, after wife of the biotch mogul, so maybe Walt was her second choice too.
I just love how the characters become victims of the unintended consequences of their actions. Walt beats Jesse out of cash, Jesse can't pay Tow-truck guy, tow-truck guy discoveres the value of the meth lab assets. That can't be good for Walt. I wonder if there is a big whiteboard somewhere in Vince's office where all of this is flowcharted out. A really big board.
I think Clovis, the tow truck driver, is going to be another big headache (the way Tuco was). Who was he talking to about all of the chemicals in the RV? Another cooker? Walt and Jesse's mobile cooking lab cover has been compromised now. It's like a moving target and someone (whoever Clovis spoke to) knows it's full of desirable chemicals. It's not like Clovis isn't going to spot it or be on the lookout (unless Albuquerque is the RV capital). And Badger may be looking for it too, for his own gain.
Walt and Jesse need to buy a new set of wheels, but how would they unload that thing with all the toxins in it? Or their fingerprints all over everything? And Skyler has seen that RV in Jesse's driveway.
Jesse is going to rent with the landlord living next door? Didn't think that was a very bright move with the kind of activities he's involved in. Jesse would've been better off renting a room at a weekly motel. Cash up front, no questions asked.
I can't believe Jesse's parents have a picture of his meth lab in the basement! Maybe the only saving grace there is that if his parents came forward with that evidence, the DEA could possibly seize the house from them anyway so that may keep them silent.
And once again, Jesse mentions none of these facts to Walt, and Walt never bothers to ask. The Dynamic Duo of Crime with a zillion holes in their business plan. Jeesh!
starscm Yes, I vaguely remember that scene, and thought - "Who is that?"
Was Skyler a catch who was out of Walter's league? You always wonder how and why people hook-up. A few threads back, someone mentioned they thought Walt had been in love with his lab partner (the wife of the Gray Matter business CEO) which made me figure Walt had "settled" for Skyler (who is very pretty by the way). Or that Walt had gotten Skyler pregnant, etc, and they were both trapped?
Walt is 50, and Walt Jr is maybe 16 (because of learning to drive)? That puts Walt and Skyler's relationship around 17-18 years, but Skyler seems about 8-10 years younger than Walt. Was she a former student?
Skyler and her typical passive aggressive behavior regarding Walt. She knows something is up but instead of trying to get it out of him she decides to play his game and start taking off and going places without letting him know so he can stew in his own juices.
I loved the fact that Jesse stood up to Walter and nearly beat the shit out of him. With the last few days Jesse had (getting evicted, getting his bike stolen, falling into the port-a-potty, and sleeping in the RV) it was much warranted.
Walt has to realize that he can't just cook the meth without Jesse being able to line up buyers for the product. Sometimes a good fight can bring people closer together and with all the stress in their lives it probably helped to clear the air. I'm sure what we didn't see was after the fight Jesse telling Walter exactly what has happened to him and that he stole back his RV in order to keep the operation going.
Somehow I think Badgers cousin is going to be pissed about this and drop a dime or notify his friend that he was talking to on the phone about the drum of p2p.
I was kind of glad the episode was slow paced. It needed to downshift a couple of gears to let the viewers catch their breath.
jamm54
If you remember just a couple of episodes ago Walt told the story of how he and Sklyer met. She was a hostess at a restaurant that he would frequent to have lunch. He noticed that she secretly did crossword puzzles so he began to do them as well. That is how he struck up a conversatoin with her asking her..."What did you get for 8 across?" or something to that effect.
So no, Skyler wasn't a former student.
I still want to see more of the back story on Walts lost love though. It would probably explain how he got into teaching in the first place.
Jamm54 said "and Walt Jr is maybe 16 (because of learning to drive)?"
Not that it makes a difference but Jr is 15, as told by Walt to the psychiatrist in the hospital in S2 E3 last week. He was answering the question about , "why run away?" and his 15 year old handicapped son was one of the items he listed off.
What a great show... Interesting that the whole story line of Jesse losing his house was necessitated by the real owners of the house remodeling....
I too am wondering about the singed bunny. Must be a foreshadowing of an explosion, surely meth lab related.
I am sure tow truck dude is not finished with Jessie. He looked like a dude not to be messed with - I can't believe he didn't beat the shit out of Jessie for trashing the port a potty and not having his cash. I loved it when he made the speedy getaway in the RV! Poor Jessie has hit rock bottom, I kind of feel sorry for him, but it's all of his own making. I was screaming when he fell in the potty - GROSS!!!!
I'm glad Walt came through witht he cash for Jessie - he was really on the edge there. I wonder if Skyler noticed the RV when she left that morning? I think I would have.
This show is BRILLIANT! Can't wait till next week. I really like the Hank character a lot more this year.
Also wondering about Jessie's house - he had it for sale last season. Could he do this without his parent's knowing since they are the true "owners?" That house is unsaleable - after the meth lab in the basement and the dissolved dude in the bathtub going throgh the ceiling!
I can't rememer - Did they actually cook meth in the house or were they just storing the equipment and supplies there?
OOOH I looove this show..I used to feel bad for Skyler but she kind of annoying in this episode..especially the look on her face when the phone was ringing. "Uh Walter you wanna answer that" How great would it have been if he woulda said "ya honey ill get that ON MY WAY OUT THE DOOR TO COOK SOME DOPE!!" I agree about the tow truck driver..maybe Jesse should try and smooth that over somehow...I dunno how but that is one helluva loose end
The end of episode 4 left me speechless!
I'm suprised no one has mentioned this yet but one of the side effects to smoking while pregnant is a premature birth which increases the likelihood for cerebral palsy, which is what Walt Jr has. So the questions is: was Walt Jr born premature, and was this caused by Skyler smoking?...Hank mentioned that everyone's got a secret, could Skyler's secret be 15 yrs old?
I love that they gave Jessie's mother more screen time, she plays the tormented parent so well...Walt and Jesse are starting to look like the 2 stooges, I think its hilarious how they can be so smart and yet so stupid at the same time!
Does anybody know what detail Skyler picked up on that made her storm out of the house while Walt was telling her his '2nd phone theory?' It seemed as if there was something he said that she knew was an absolute lie, or was it just that he sounded so ridiculous she just knew he was lying? I'm going to have to go back and listen to everything he said cause its killing me right now thinking about it....
Cheers to the BB team for another awesome episode!
B
Pink63 - They did cook a batch in the house, in Season 1 Episode 7 they were forced to when the RV in Jesse's driveway wouldn't start. Remember the realtor was showing the house right in the middle of the cook session and Jesse had to go upstairs and get rid of all the people. Crazy stuff.
I LOVE the show and am glad to have found a bunch of people on here who share my passion for it.
Robobret - I don't think it was anything particular that Walt said, I think just his bringing it up and his rambling on and on about it made it pretty obvious to Skylar that he was full of it....
I liked this show, while it wasn't as action packed as the shootout with Tuco the week before it did have it's moments, the meeting in the attorneys office with Jessie and parents, the RV liberation and mounting tension between Hank and Skyler. The tease scene of whats to possibly come was good too with glasses being laid out next to a singed stuffed animal floating in a pool. But who knows, it could be a dream sequence too. I also believe Clovis is gonna be a problem down the line. Great writing here Vince. Great acting from the whole crew on this one too. You should have Jessie and Walt have one of their meetings aboard the Albq Tramway high above the mountains that would be a site to see! (Production wise could be a tough shoot though)
Keep up the good work!
AlbqKid
This is probably not the right place to ask this but I'm a big fan of the show from the UK. Does anyone know if AMC are gonna release season 1 on DVD over here? And if so are the cuts of the episodes longer?
My hat goes off to everyone involved with the show, keep up the good work
ginja said "This is probably not the right place to ask this but I'm a big fan of the show from the UK. Does anyone know if AMC are gonna release season 1 on DVD over here? And if so are the cuts of the episodes longer?"
There is brief nudity and language that may or may not have been cut out from the TV broadcasts in your region.
For example, when I first got hooked on the show it was because it was being heavily promoted by my old cable TV provider Bright House Networks as being part of their Free HD On Demand. We didn't get AMC HD, but they had this show in the On Demand catalog. Thankfully, or I may have never seen it since I don't typically watch AMC. These episodes were in HD and uncut. I saw episodes 2-5 right after 5 came out and caught 1, 6, and 7 on the actual AMC cable channel. Six and Seven, I went back and watched on the HD ON Demand but loved the show so much that I couldn't wait the day it took to put them On Demand. I noticed that the profanity words like "shit" were cut out from the broadcast version and were included in the uncut edition. Same thing with a breasts scene and the scene where Jesse is doing Windy Wendy in the slum motel.
So there is a possibility that you had some stuff edited out but you didn't miss much. It isn't like there is ten minutes of extra footage per episode or anything.
Not sure if they will release it over there but they should. They should also release it on bluray in HD, which they didn't even do here.
I have just returned from living in Albuquerque during the last five months. Last night was the first episode of the new season that I saw and I was absolutely delighted to see the opening scene take place at the Tri-H Convenience Store. I lived in the house across the street from it that could be seen during Skylar's decision to smoke. My landlady's car was right there in the drive-way like usual. How cool to be 900 miles away in South Dakota, but able to see my little house one more time.
Wall Druggie-
That is pretty cool. Is it possible you were inside bumping uglies with the landlady during the shooting of that scene? Wouldn't that be really unique?
I like the description of Skyler as passive-aggressive. That's exactly how she is behaving. She's pissed off, but too chicken to confront Walt in a mature manner. It seems she doesn't really want to know the truth. (It's beside the point that she wouldn't have gotten it anyway!)
I've always been intrigued by their relationship and this episode causes me to question more than I used to. In the first season, they seemed to have a fairly healthy partnership, but now things are majorly strained. I was always willing to pawn the fault off on Walt, but now I'm not sure. I don't think it can all be blamed on the stress of the baby, either.
After the incident in the kitchen in the first episode, I wondered how Skyler could ever forgive Walt and allow him back into her bed. (If I didn't totally kick him out of the house, I surely wouldn't sleep with him!) But there he is and it's a small bed! Still, it might as well be the Grand Canyon between them. They don't even accidentally touch each other. That's gotta be unpleasant!!
Because they are still sleeping in the same bed, I'm hopeful things will eventually be resolved in some fashion. It also makes me really glad I've never had these sorts of issues in my life!
Hi. Does anyone know which was the song that Jesse and his friend sing together.
jwh-
"Fallacies" by Twathammer
Never heard of it? Watch the minisodes on the Breaking Bad AMC website. They are hilarious.
I'm with Skottey. I think Skyler has her own secrets as well. I suspect she's having an affair and that she may be pregnant with her lover's baby. I didn't get those vibes until last night's episode. Perhaps she's being faithful to Walt and is just playing mind games, but when she was brushing her hair and was all made up to go "out" gave me the signal that she is up to something.
Actually... I made a mistake, the band is spelled Twaughthammer that sings "Fallacies"
My bad.
Not just Skylar, all of the woman characters in this serie are scary and disturbing.
Even Tuco was more rational and friendly.
Skottey- Thanks for quick response, appreciated.
Wow... twaughthammer.com is actually available for the taking. I'd register it if I had time to put together a fansite. Come on guys, that would make a great Breaking Bad fansite. I'm actually surprised that it hasn't been registered yet by the shows producers.
I see from the previews next week that Jessie appears to be taking the bull by the horns, and forming his own distributorship. I thought I saw Badger at the staff meeting. My prediction is that Badger is eventually going down. It could be via DEA arrest, but I'm thinking something more permanent. My logic is this: this show is often about bad decisions that lead to broken promises, and unfulfilled potential. Badger, for all of his kindof obnoxious personality, has generally been a pretty good friend to Jessie--perhaps the best friend we've seen him with so far. He stood up for Jessie in a time of need (as he himself reminded Jessie). My guess is that his involvement in Jessie's new plan and (potential) departure could be played up as a source of guilt for Jessie--who does seem to have a conscience, and is troubled by many things that have transpired thus far. After all, if Jessie is forming his own crew, and could somehow be considered responsible for Badger's (potential) exit, that would be troubling.
I really wish we could get back to the action of "cooking" and the dark humor that was so prevelent in Seasion I. I do think it is necessary to deal with the family issues that Walter and Jesse are creating, but if the writers are not careful, the show will delve into melodrama instead of the clever writing, fascinating characters, and black humor of Episode I.
my guess is Jesse going to get Badger in there cooking and Badger blows up the place
Not just Skylar, all of the woman characters in this serie are scary and disturbing.
Even Tuco was more rational and friendly
Typical of women in NM ;-)
Wow, BB never disappoints! Very clever writing. I loved how Jesse (or Jessie?) took back his RV and drove right through the gate--I was actually proud of him, the fictitious TV character that he is. And the pool sweep foreshadowing is delightfully teasing--I'm anticipating a mindblowing conclusion to those scenes.
And then, one more character reveals a dirty secret--Skyler's smoking while pregnant, even she's not squeaky clean. As much as he deserves it, I hate seeing Sklyer give him the cold shoulder--I'm rooting for him.
Could the 'explosion' have something to do with Skylar's smoking near something combustible? That would be my guess.
ginja said "Could the 'explosion' have something to do with Skylar's smoking near something combustible? That would be my guess."
I don't think Walt would be storing any of the stuff at his home. Not with Skyler onto him and a brother-in-law like Hank.
hey yall check out song #2 on my bands page
http://www.myspace.com/highintensitydischarge
see if you like it 4 one of the scenes
A thought occured to me where Skyler may be going to: Perhaps she is going to a church to pray, or seeking spiritual advice from a minister or priest? It could be that she might be figuring the only way to cope with all the recent craziness she's been having to deal with in her life is through God. This could be very possible, considering all the strange twists and turns this show has.
Episode 4 is the bomb. I love the fact that Hank is getting more screen time. I suppose he will continue to become more and more involved in the plot as he gets closer and closer to figuring this whole thing out. Very funny character.
I've got to give Jesse props. Not only did he stand up for himself when he went after Walt, but Wow can he take a punch. His mom really gave it to him. Nice work. Hope they were able to get that one in one take. lol
Great second season! Skylar is probably visiting the private investigator and going on stakeouts with him. We have not heard or seen the last of him! The hilarious parts of quite a few of these comments are the lack of compassion for people being killed/arms torn off/tortured/beaten and maimed but the outrage of smoking one cigarette while pregnant. We had a 3 generations of kids grow up with smoking moms..... BTW I dont advocate pregnant smoking ... I just find it ironic.
Anna Gunn's acting is incredible! All the actors are good, and some of the other cast members have roles where they can really let loose (Raymond Cruz/Tuco and Dean Norris/Hank must have had/be having a BLAST). But the subtleties Gunn puts into it...Her facial expressions during her slow realization, while Walt is cleaning up and yapping about his cell phone "alarm," that her husband is not who she thinks he is, is one of the best non-speaking acting scenes I've seen on TV in a LOOOOONG time.
This actress rocks.
So I'm new to the series... I've missed 1st season and 1st episode of this season, but - I'm hooked now.
Skyler just knows he's lying about the 'nothing'. I don't think she's cheating on him, just separating herself from the situation and being self-destructive, hence the cig. I think the gun from the vent was missing when he retrieved the cash for Jessie. Again, I'm new to the series, but it didn't seem she knew about the money, the gun, or the hiding place. I'm guessing she found it and has the gun now.
In some ways, that was the scariest episode so far. Those of us who have been married know that at present, Skylar is more frightening to Walt than Tuco ever was. LOL

You hit the nail on the head brother. I'm sure Walt would rather face Tuco again all day everyday and twice on Sunday than have to deal with Skyler's passive aggressive moods. At least with Tuco you knew the logic behind his madness. With Skyler there is no logic to it. Enough to drive you crazy and slam your head into a wall.....LOL
Incredible show. I think 'THE BELL' will go down in infamy. On the edge of my seat 1st two episodes.
Help! I missed episode 4 as I had to travel for work, and can't find any info on the website about rebroadcasts during the week. I'd rather see episode 4 for myself in its entirety than read a plot synopsis.
I won't read through the majority of blog posts this week until I see the episode, but I will skim to see if anyone replies to this inqiry?
Does AMC do rebroadcasts during the week? When? Their schedule doesn't seem to list anything after 8 pm for some reason. Help please!
john in portland. AMC rebroadcasts on Wed. and Fri. in our area. Check it out!
noha-
Since when does Portland not get a national feed of AMC? AMC is a national cable channel. Not that I pay attention to when they re-air the show, because I DVR it on all four DVRs with both providers, just to be on the safe side and then watch it halfway through or an hour later to skip ads, but if you get rebroadcasts on Wed and Fri, it is safe to say that the rest of the USA does. I'm not trying to be douchey, but it isn't as if it is a syndicated show like Oprah where you get a different time and station in each market (on local broadcast networks like NBC, ABC, etc). There may be a different national feed with a three hour delay between the east and west costs (like HBO East, HBO West, Nickelodeon East, Nickelodeon West) but there is only one AMC, at most two or three hours off if this particular channel has an east and west feed. The only reason that you hear "check your local listings for day and times" for a cable channel is because of the time zone thing. They used to say 8PM eastern, 5PM Pacific, but that got to be too confusing for Americans. It is the math I guess. Adding an hour in the mountain time zone or subtracting an hour in central, for stations with an eastern and western feed or even more complicated, subtracting 1, 2, or 3 hours in California. God forbid you watch the show in Hawaii or Alaska and have to subtract an hour or two more.
Great show! Make sure you catch any repeats on the national feed.
Thanks. It looks as if the rebroadcast is Wednesday at midnight (actually Thursday), so I'll be staying up late.
Skottey, it's not that we don't get a national feed, it's that I was at a hotel that didn't have cable - they had satellite, and a range of stations, but AMC wasn't one of them.
I think you would all enjoy this

Fo realz...
This was a great episode. I think it may have been Aaron Paul's best performance yet. I truly felt bad for him when he lost his house and was forced to sleep in the RV wearing a gas mask. He was truly at rock bottom there. I loved his scene with his mom too. She's a good actress, and the whole thing was very believable. It was cool to hear Jesse singing "Fallacies" at his friend's house. The look on Jesse's face right when his friend's wife said "Can you help me with these in the bedroom?", that was perfect, because he knew right away that she was going to tell him Jesse can't stay there. The final blowup between him and Walt was great. When Walt was yelling at Jesse and repeatedly calling him stupid, does anyone else think he may have been taking out his frustration with his son on Jesse? Earlier when he was teaching Walter Jr. how to drive, you could see he was upset, but he contained it. Maybe his blowing up at Jesse was kind of what he wanted to say to his disabled son, but never would. We also got to find out in this episode that Walt is a fan of Steely Dan and Boz Scaggs!
Also, did anyone hear the song playing in the store when Jesse met Walter in there at the beginning of the episode? It was "Into The Night" by Benny Mardones, one of my favorite songs from the 80's! Great musical choices on this show!
Just re-watched Episodes 1 and 2 online on AMC's website (thank you AMC for those of us who don't have On Demand on our cable provider).
What I noticed in both episodes on the close-ups of Jesse's lowrider back license plate is that it reads THE CAPN.
When Hank mentioned they were looking for someone with license plates that read CAPN COOK, I always thought it meant Jesse. So, does that mean the DEA is looking for somone else (and not Jesse) as far as the whole Capn Cook license plates are concerned? Was Jesse just copying someone else that he'd run across in the meth world?
Also, looking for Jesse's lowrider in connection with his brother-in-law (as Hank told his DEA superiors in the post-Tuco shootout debriefing) really puts Hank in an awkward position with the DEA. Wouldn't they be curious to know WHY Hank's missing brother-in-law would have even a remote connection or link with a low level meth dealer?
For some reason, regarding the glimpses of the singed pink bunny in the pool and the evidence bags being laid out next to the pool by the suited HazMat guy, I tend to think that's a glimpse of the very last episode of the whole series, and not the finale for Season 2. It would almost make sense or seem fitting that they'd all be blown up in the end (the White family) either by the cartel, Skyler's smoking or some other reason. Maybe because all of them will break bad before it's over.
jamm54: You are correct saying Hank is in an awkward position with the DEA upper echelon, and it would be common for them to wonder why Hank's brother-in-law is tied to a meth dealer, had to take time off in the middle of an important investigation to look for him, and ultimately getting into a gunfight by himself with the exact notorious drug dealer they were looking for!
But not only will the DEA brass be a bit perturbed by the above mentioned incident, they are really gonna be pissed when word trickles up to them about Hank, 15 year old Walt Jr. and meeting Windy Wendy the skank hooker.
Oh yeah, I forgot about Hank's klepto wife, who can't seem to contol her mouth and what exits from it. The DEA guys aren't gonna be amused with her either.
bfn do you really think the DEA would be more upset over Hank's corruption of a minor's morals or is it just his interaction with a junkie (Windy Wendy)?
When I re-watched Eps. 1 and 2 today, yes, Marie, does have a big mouth. Hank kept trying to get her to shut up with all these facial expressions, but she wasn't buying it. Hank wasn't ever going to mention the second cell phone to Skyler or anything about Jesse Pinkman.
hey yall pinky willard reading all yalls blogs i think yall are over thinking this **it its a dark comedy and if i had to guess what is going to happen next walt and jessi are going to cook up another batch of crank that is kick ass and they will find another buyer that is more crazy than the last guy but they won't know it until its too late. then you'll have season three.i still don't understand what br and ba element table has to do with meth?
Hey billy, now YOU'RE over-thinking a little -- JK! The Br and Ba have nothing to do with meth. It's just the producers' clever way of inserting different element symbols in the credits, just like they do for all the credits at the start of every ep. Just their way of showing the whole chemistry theme.
For robebret, there was also a hint during the first season that Sklyer took some kind of anti-nausea drug during her pregnancy with Walt, Jr. aka Flynn. If you remember, he was explaining a chemistry concept (I forget which one) to his high school class in which certain chemicals are "mirror images" of each other and can be easily confused. One chemical can help, and it's "mirror" can be harmful. That may also have been a reason for Walt, Jr's birth defects. I don't think there was any one thing that mad her storm out when Walt tried to explain the 2nd cell. I think it was just the way he sort of "sandwiched" the explanation in amongst other hum-drum stuff.
I'm a little disappointed that we may not find out anything more about Walt's relationship with Gretchen and what happen with Gray Matter. Probably saving it for season 3.
For anyone who doesn't think there's as much dark humor I have to disagree. The whole thing with Tuco's father and the bell for one. OMG that was great! It was typical of this show. One minute you're crying, next minute you're laughing, next minute your jaw is on the floor in shock. Keep it up BB!
Absolute genius. Eventually, I think we all have to hit, or are going to hit rock-bottom. I can't wait until next Sunday!! See you then.
jamm54: Even though that DEA dept. thinks Hank walks on water for getting rid of Tuco, I think all three of the things I mentioned are going to be scrutinized by Hank's superiors. If they choose to go further with this, they are going to find it awfully strange that the same hooker Hank was toying around with in the presence of a 15 year old minor, is the same hooker tied with Jesse's alibi in the hotel room, who they're figuring is somehow tied to Tuco since he was killed by Hank right next to Jesse's lowrider out in the middle of nowhere, and all of which is somehow tied to Hank taking "Personal time" off work during a crucial investigation to help find his missing brother-in-law.
And the icing on the cake will be when Hank's wife Marie is caught stealing something, then starts shooting off her yap.
All of this is going to be viewed by the DEA bigshots as potentially damaging to their integrity. That's why I'm predicting Hank is gonna end up being shitcanned.
All this commenting on this gripping TV show is really cool! I've never been into a program like this before, and I love it! Borrowing Hank's words I'm "Tumescent with anticipation" for episode 5!
Jamm54-I don't know if the pink stuffed animal thing is from the very final episode, because who knows how long in the future that will be? There could very easily be at least a few more seasons after this one (there should be anyway). It wouldn't be a good idea to show something from the final episode right now, because that would completely limit the amount of things that Vince could write for future seasons. I think the pink animal is from the end of this season, and somehow, I don't think it will be quite as tragic as it seems. Someone may die, but I don't think it will be everyone.
GREAT NEWS!! Just read that AMC has renewed BB for a 3rd season. This is cause for great celebration. I don't know, but AMC must really know they have a brilliant show to renew so early in the year. Congratulations Breaking Bad.
Im really enjoying the show--I dont know if its quite on Par with the first season so far, but Down was a great episode. Walt did turn into a complete dick--though hes just under his own personal stress.
I really hope this season can live up to the first season of the show. seriously it was some of the best TV I have seen in a very long long time.
noah-That is GREAT news!!! I'm so glad they officially renewed it for a third season...it's a relief too, because it means everyone doesn't die at the end of this season! :)
dannyboy-I think this season is already just as good as the first. The first two episodes were intense as hell (especially the second one), and even though the last two were a little calmer, they still featured the best acting and storytelling on tv right now! I think "Down" was the perfect name for this episode, because that's exactly what everyone was. They were all "down" for their own reasons.
I think only one person caught that there was no gun in the vent when walt gave his half of the money to Jessie.. either Flynn has it or his scary wife skylar has it.
Oh, also I think the series will lean towards Walt going into remission. The baby will be born, someone will bring a toy bear to the hospital.. most people will assume a meth lab explosion but I think it'll be one of their smaller slip ups coming to bite them in the behind, not the tow rv guy but the person on the other end of the phone.
Guys, the only way the big shots in the DEA are going to know about Wendy is if Hanks partner Gomez rats him out. I don't see it happenen. Those partners are tight.
DEA isn't going to put the finger on Walt, it's going to be Skylar. She knows something is up. She knows for a fact Walt is doing illegal drugs, so it will not be a reach for her to suspect he is capable of more. The rest of the clan I don't think believes Walt is up to something that evil, (murder, meth & who knows what else).
Hank has his sights on poor Jesse. So he will continue to put his focus there. Yikes!
The fight scene in the RV was not only Walt taking his frustration with Walt Jr. on Jesse, but Jesse taking his pent up anger towards his parents out on Walt.
Congrats to Breaking Bad for winning a Peabody!! Great show.
Bryan Cross:
I'm with you on the toy bear. I think some of the foreshadowing at the beginning of the last episode and last season, with the stuffed animals being skimmed out of the pool and the evidence bags, will come into play by the end of this season.
My take on it -- Skylar and Walt's newborn ends up dead in the pool courtesy of the yet to reappear "boys from Juarez".
Noah-Yeah, I thought the same thing about Jesse seeing Walter as his father in the RV. They were both taking out personal family issues on each other, but ultimately in the end, they both realized that they need each other.
I'm into the whole "experience" here in the BB world. I've listened to the podcasts, watched the minisodes, and read every post (you all should check out the interactive video with Walt!) and it seems that the one eyed bunny is definitely in this season's finale.
James26, I completely agree with you about Aaron Paul's performance. It was worthy of an award. He had us howling with laughter when he fell in the port-a-potty and feeling depressed with him when he cried himself to sleep with the mask on his face. I screamed all by my lonesome when I saw him climbing the fence in the background to get the RV! I knew he was going to blow up with everyone after coming so close to death in Tuco's hands. Walt needed to smacked around a little.
Freek, I seen the episode where Walt looked puzzled at the vent with the money, but I didn't catch that there was no gun. Thanks for that.
In the land of the blind the one-eyed man is king.
Hey laz, good to meet you! Glad you agree about Aaron! :)
bryancross: I went back and checked - the gun IS still duct-taped down in the vent, BUT it is not in the same spot where Walt taped it down at when he left the hospital to sneak into his house to put the money and gun back in the vent. Also, at that time when he put that money and gun in there, the money was all in real neat, tight rolls. When he got that money out for Jesse, a lot of that cash was laying there loose. It appeared he even paused a second or two and took notice to that the money was't in rolls anymore.
Walt Jr. or Skyler found that money and gun when he had it hidden in that diaper box, and then when they went back to check and found it wasn't in there anymore, they started checking around the room for the next best hiding place, which would've been that vent. Whoever found it probably brike open the rolls to count how much was there.
bfn oh, oh...I thought the money looked different. May explain Skyler's weird behavior. Again, oh oh....the jig is up, a little....
Noah,
With regards to your comments that "Hank has his sights on poor Jesse"...I don't believe that Hank sees Jesse as a major player. While Hank is a generally good agent, his shortcoming is the fact that he is looking for puzzle pieces to fit a profile. (1) He has reasoned that Crazy 8 was dealt with by Tuco. (2) He even told Jesse that he believed that he (Jesse) did not kill Tuco--only that he knew something about it. That is why Hank is on the wrong track. I believe that Hank will continue to come close, but just miss what is actually going on, as this provides suspense, and keeps the show interesting. I suspect that as new evidence comes in, Hank will continue to find reasons to believe it is the "Boys for Juarez", or other such Latino gangsters. After all, that explanation fits a profile that matches Hank's experience to date. That is not to say that the writers won't tease us with situations that come very close to exposing Walt and Jesse. That's just good storytelling.
As I said before, nothing is going to be made of the Windy Wendy-Hank-Walt Jr connection. I also said that Hanks is appreciated and somewhat of a hero in his department.
I am not sure why some of you get the impression that Hank was really trying to hook Jr up with a blowy. He was merely trying to teach him a lesson about the seedy side of life. This could easily be explained away by Hank if it ever came to be an issue. The average person cannot just go up to a hooker and ask how much for a blowy, but Hank can. He is inside the department. This is no different than a cop getting away with going 55 in a 35, while we are stopped for going 42 in a 35. They all know Hank in the department. You and I, and anybody watching knows that he was trying to teach Walt Jr. a lesson. He was not trying to get him laid. Who do you think the superiors would believe? Hank, whom they already adore, or a skank hooker Windy Wendy?
People keep bringing this up like it is going to be an issue for Hank. It isn't. I cannot believe the number of people speculating that it is going to go in that direction.
If Hank is fired over the Windy Wendy- Walt Jr. connection, I will immediately lose all respect for the show. I think this is one of the best shows on TV. They practically stick it in your face that Hank is trying to teach Walt Jr. a lesson, yet some of you come off thinking he was really trying to get Jr. laid. It isn't even worth mentioning again in the show. I'm surprised they brought Windy Wendy back at all. It made sense how they brought her back, but they aren't going to make an issue of it.
I think the most annoying thing I have read on this forum is the idea that Hank will get in trouble for "trying to get a blowy for Jr." That didn't even happen. The whole issue should be seriously forgotten. I am annoyed every time it comes up here. Give it a rest. There are 1,001 predictions of how the show could turn and that is about the least likely thing to happen.
To finklemen, Posted March 30, 2009 1:46am (To answer the 2nd phone *69 questions)
First, I was thinking....why would Walt start chirpping? He had the perfect out, talking too much can only get you in trouble. As he tried to come up with one of his great answers, he slips and says, "probably just as well that I lost the phone anyway, maybe we can stop and get a new one". Remember, Tuco threw Jesse and Walts phone parts into the desert. (don't u think Hank and the DEA will be out there at the farmhouse in future episodes looking for evidence?) anyway, after Walt made the comment to just get a new phone, Skylar was gone. WOW. Then he calls and the phone is right there, vibrating. You could see in Skylar's eyes that she knew Walt was begging to cover up a lie. Then, pow, the lost phone. That is the point when Skylar knew Walt and his/her life is now a complete lie. She was the perfect stay at home, pregnant mom, enjoying her husband making breakfast, right up until the point the lie was confirmed.
Skylar has no clue about anything other than Walt is hiding something. She is acting like any concerned pregnant wife! She needs Walt the miniscule income he makes. True life actions...brilliant. Will be interesting to see where it goes.
Now Walt, JR. Who ever wants to be JR. Changing or taking his real name to show independence like any teen. The father son relationship between Walt and "Flynn" is awkward to say the least and obviously has been for 15 yrs. Skylar knows her son and Walt has been working two jobs his entire life. He is trying to make things right knowing time is limited. Taking "Flynn" out to drive is a true father son activity. Didn't really work out like Walt wanted. Now his marriage is also on the rocks.
But, he has the true heart of a caring loving father. Don't you find it ironic that Jesse's father and mother could care less about him. Walt tells him he is a loser, drug addict and and idiot. Then, he does what any father would likely do, he offers him food and his money. Walt and Jesse are building a father son relationship.
4justice said-
"anyway, after Walt made the comment to just get a new phone, Skylar was gone. WOW. Then he calls and the phone is right there, vibrating."
I think you might be confused here. Since Skylar left so fast he tried to call her on her cell phone, and there it was, vibrating right there. That wasn't his phone vibrating, it was her phone.
Skottey, you may be correct. I was assuming the White family only had one phone. If Walt and Skylar both had a phone, then when Walt said he lost his, it would make sense that Skylars phone was ringing and she left without it....or on purpose! :)
But if they only had one household phone, then Walt got caught in his own lie.
Thanks for the comment. I am ready for the fifth episode Sunday. Lot's of loose ends for Walt and Jesse to clean up.
Skottey-THANK YOU for trying to clear up the "Windy Wendy" thing once and for all. It was also bugging me that people thought that was going to be an issue. If you go back to that episode, you can clearly see that Hank only said "How much you charge for a windy, Wendy?" because her name, Wendy, sounds like "windy". It was a simple throwaway comedy line, NOT something that will come into play in the future. The whole point of that scene was Hank showing Walt Jr. how horrible Wendy looked, especially her teeth, because of doing drugs. I hope people can just let that rest now!
OKAY skottey! You don't need to go postal - I'll drop talking about how I think Hank MIGHT get into trouble! Sheesh!
When I was watching episode 4 last Sunday, I initially thought that it was Walt's cell buzzing on the counter she had set there to show him that he was full of shit and lying. But THEN I remembered that Tuco busted up their phones and tossed them. Plus, I realized why would Walt call his own cellphone if he knew Tuco destroyed them?
Does anybody think that the DEA will find Walt and Jesse's cell phone pieces out at Tio's place? How about Tuco's gun Walt and Jesse buried nearby?
I'm getting seriously geeked for S2-Ep5 Sun. night!
.
I missed 4 and don't have time to watch the video - is there a written synopsis anywhere? - can't find one. Thanks
merrywriter: you can read the episode synopsis on the Breaking Bad Main page.
Sunset Boulevard came to mind with the opening credits. That classic movie did not end happily; although it did end as it should have in the good vs evil tradition of old Hollywood movies.
Anyone else notice there was absolutely no appearance from either Hank or Marie in this episode? Just occurred to me.
I've loved this show from the beginning and Season 2 continues to impress me on many levels. However, well done as it is, I feel a certain ennui setting in in regards to a couple aspects. One is the excellently handled, but (by the creator's own admission) unplanned early snubbing out of the whole Tuco storyline and character. The outcome of that set Walt and Jesse all the way back to square one. Now, that'd be okay, but bear in mind, this is the SECOND TIME (maybe even third?) they've been set all the way back to square one, and it's a process of numerous episodes to allow the story to build back up from that.
Given that this is the second time they've been set back to square one, I'm starting to feel a degree of irritation with Walt and Jesse's inability to evolve. I understand that a big part of the point and appeal of the show is that they are not professionals, but I'm getting a little weary of watching the pair bumble through everything as if they haven't learned anything from their experiences; and it's leaving me with a distinct sensation that the show's writers, while they are aware they have something very good, aren't exactly sure where the hell to take this story overall. So it starts suffering from a vague undertow of that "we're making this up as we go" syndrome. It's getting a bit dawdling.
Mind you, I do like the show's very gradual pace. But that gradual pace makes it frustrating when we start seeing soap opera-like repetitions in the various ups and downs, without anything significant really changing. They've still got no plan, no distributor, and are hampered by an inability to let anyone else in on their secret. It is time for the show to shift gears slightly and move into some new territory, I feel.
The problem the writers are going to face is the paradox of their own novel concept: how to reconcile the dramatic desire to see Walt and Jesse succeed and evolve as dealers to at least some degree, while adhering to the high bar of human realism they've set for themselves. The two are an intriguing pairing, but no matter how much the creators might shake the bottle, these elements may remain like oil and vinegar, unable to fully mix.
My main feedback to the creators as a viewer faithful from s1ep1 at this point, would be that I'm beginning to find Walt's family annoying as a constant, unchanging impediment to the drug-dealing side of the narrative, and Walt's repetitive ups and downs to be getting slightly tiring. I'm still on board 100%, just saying -- it's creeping in, especially after this new episode, which I felt was a bit 'meh.' I don't want the creators to rush through all the great story elements they've created for themselves to play with, but at the same time, I DO want to see the characters change, learn, and grow (for better or worse), to become a little more competant, and I have to admit, I want to see them continue to "break bad."
Possibly the best show and acting on TV today. You never know where this thing is going, but you hold on with all your might. I need someone's help. In "Down", Jesse and Walt are talking in the mini-mart, and an old R&B song is on the radio. It's not listed in the credits, or elsewhere, and I'd love to know the name of this song, as well as the artist. Can anyone help?
Thanks,
