Walt's Affair
.....well, the one Skyler thinks he's having because of the phone calls in Ep. 4 "Down". She's pretty obsessed over that cell phone, but does everyone think that Skyler believes Walt's having an affair? It almost seemed like they hospital psychiatrist had revealed Walt's confession about faking the fugue episode she had. Skyler was pissed, but would she retaliate over a suspected affair by harming her unborn baby by smoking? Would a woman do that to get back at her husband? What's everybody else think?

I don't know but damn damn damn at that ending.
I thought they would show her meeting up with another man, but then that would completely negate all of Walt's trouble to cook meth to support his family.
The whole premise of the show would have been gone if they had shown her cheating.
But to show her smoking whilst pregnant.
I never expected that.
Damn.
I don't think any reasonable woman would harm their child in order to seek revenge upon their husband lying to them.
That's just not rational.
But I think we are watching Skylar BREAK BAD.
She's drifting off course on her own.
I had to sign up here because i was so shocked at the ending.
Damn.
I don't think she's pissed off, and I DO think she believes Walt when he says that he's not having an affair, and the whole cellphone thing has turned into a moot point with her. After all, she didn't even want to hang around in the kitchen long enough for Walt's explanation of the ringtone/reminder buzzer thing. I strongly believe that she's simply just feeling the weight of all the stress of no income, baby on the way, Walt being sick and appearing to be emotionally whacked out with him winding up in his birthday suit in a supermarket, and of course her kleptomaniac sister Marie. A person can only take so much. Plus, as I noted in another post, I think she got a part time job somewhere to help make ends meet.
When Jesse was beating the crap out of a pay phone outside some store, I swear I thought it was Skyler's car pulling up in front behind him to the right of the screen (an earlier scene not the smoking scene at the end). Anybody else see that? I almost thought they'd have a run-in on the street.
I guess what's to consider is the amount of hormones pumping through Skyler because she IS pregnant. But alot times she seems irrational, like a bulldog who's got a bone and won't let go. As if no answer would ever satisfy Skyler.
The reality is that from the beginning, I don't know, the concern seemed to be about Skyler's feelings and how she was taking things and very little about how Walt is truly grappling with his mortality.
After their blow up in this episode, at the very end when Skyler demands an answer and Walt stonewalls her, it was the first time I saw Walt's meth cooker/drug identity persona answer in their family environment, and not family Walt. It was very subtle, but the hardness was there that he displays in his drug transaction encounters. I was surprised to see that side of him pop up with Skyler.....
I think Skyler disconnected when he lied about the 2nd cell phone and gave a shallow aplogy (they were both sitting on couch & she said . . . is that it?) That was followed by his continued insistance he had one phone. If this were real life, I think he should come clean. Tell her he's doing something illegal to make money before he dies / he won't tell her what / he wants to keep doing it but if she wants, he'll stop.
This is kind of out there...
but I get the feeling that Skyler has been "bad" for a long time.
I think she smoked during Walter jr's pregnancy leading to his condition.
Also is Walter Jr. gay? I think so
This show is excellent!
Skyler has been looking over her past for sometime, digging through old pictures of boyfriends, looking depressed at Walts old partners party last season etc. Skyler and Walt it seems settled for each other as Walt, had another flame when he was younger which was shown on a flashback last season. (I believe his old partners wife now). We are watching their relationship unravel. They have a love for each other but it's anyone's guess at how deep that love runs.
I think it is quite possible that Skyler is smoking to get back at her husband. I've known other women who did that sort of thing, but they weren't pregnant.
While it's definitely not healthy for either Skyler or the baby, it's not the worst thing she could do. To me, it's something she's doing to get Walt's goat in retaliation for his poor treatment of her. Like, "I'll show him...I'll cause his baby to have a low birth weight and potential health problems!"
I actually almost laughed when I saw her light the cigarette because there was just a hint of hesitation and she knows she's being a naughty girl. I like the character, but I'm seeing signs that perhaps she's not quite as mature as I had previously thought.
It's stupid of me, but wouldn't have been a scream if she'd had something like an addiction to Funyuns instead of cigarettes? "I'll get him back...I'll breathe Funyuns on him while he's sleeping!!"
Well, Ted, you throw that teaser out there and then leave us hanging! Other than the smoking, how "bad" or what "bad" things do you think Skyler was doing? Just curious.....inquiring minds want to know! LOL
LoL... It was just a thought... sorry for teasing.
I'm not sure, but I think Walter Jr. and Skyler have given up on Walt completely. Walt has spent enough time away for Jr to become gay (that scene with jr's friend was kind of weird) and Skyler seemed pretty familiar with smoking, only hesitating when another women blatently sees her.( I think that may be her only flaw, jamm54) I like the idea that all the characters have a BAD to break. I hope things get real raunchy haha
Walt Jr. swimming upstream? That's a possible twist that would fit into a show like this one! I got a weird feeling with his "friend" Louis as well. He's either gay too, or else he's turning Walt Jr. on to drugs and partying.
I still strongly think Walt Jr. will have a HUGE part in later episodes.
How many of you all think either him or Skyler found the money and gun Walt hid in the diaper box?
Oh god, bfn, I hadn't thought of that! Oh, that would be really devious on their part, and strange, too. You know, in the last argument scene between Skyler and Walt, it's like she knew. Can't describe it any better than that - it was more than just the "Yeah, I'm listening to your bullshit lies, Walt, now spill the goods". There was a knowingness there that seemed beyond a woman's intuition kind of thing. Skyler knowing about the $$ would fit that. Might explain why she took the ciggie step.
Okay, Ted, you're off the hook. Just curious about Skyler's "bad". I'm beginning to think she's either contemplating an affair or something going by other posters theories. After her longing look at the old boyfriend picture, I'm wondering if Skyler just wants to bail.
jamm54: If Skyler did find the money and gun, I can imagine how she would've freaked out if all of sudden it wasn't there, since Walt snuck in and put it back in the air vent. I'm still wondering why Walt even took it out of the air vent hiding place and put it in that diaper box to begin with? Did you also notice that the diaper box wasn't in the scene when Walt got that money out to give to Jesse, and that the gun he duct-taped down in the vent looks like it's in a different position. The money in the vent looked in disarray too, not in it's tight rolls like it was when he put it in there.
If Skyler DID find the money and gun, why doesn't she just come out with it and ask Walt "Hey there Walt - WTF??"
Skottey gave me a pretty good explanation for the money being taken out in the Ep. 3 thread. That was the night Walt stayed up all night with the gun, looking out the window.
Skottey's theory was that Walt had the money out (and the gun for protection) because he thought he might die from an attack by Tuco or his gang,. Walt was leaving it out for Skyler to find if something happened. As it was, Jesse called from the car with Tuco, and that prevented Walt from putting it all back because he was kidnapped.
I don't believe she's gonna seek out her old boyfriend to look for some sort of "comfort". She seems like a pretty rational person, and perhaps contemplated briefly about doing that, or maybe she was looking at the guy's picture thinking "What may have my life been like if I would've went with you?". She seems intelligent enough to realize how much she has on her plate right now, and the last thing she needs to really mess things up is an affair.
Well, the other thing, to put delicately, is who would want to have an affair with a 5-6 month pregnant woman, other than her own husband?
Jamm54> That person wouldn't have to worry about getting his lover pregnant! Stranger things have happened and there are some men who are turned on by pregnancy.
I don't even want to go there.....LOL
