Season 2 Episode 1 - Open Thread
Talk about Episode 1, "Seven Thirty-Seven."

Does anyone else here remember the movie, "Midnight Express"? It was about a young American man caught smuggling hash out of Turkey. I can see some of the same desperation in this episode of "Breaking Bad".
It seems like an odd comparison, perhaps, but it's just my first impression. More later.
I love this show!! The characters are very easy to relate with, they seem like real people.
I especially like the relationship between Walt and Capn Cook. In a weird kind of way they seem to be bonding in a way you would not expect.
Maybe I'm reading to much into the show, but I really like to see strong character development.
This is way better than anything the networks are coming out with. I hope they keep up the great writing.:)
great great show tonight ... one of the rare pieces on TV or the movies where what goes unsaid is as palpable and as important as what is said. So much is conveyed by all of the actors without endless dialogue a la shows like West Wing .
The "ricin beans" line is so out there and brilliantly unique, as was Walt's reaction which was to me barely concealed rage ....
DR, I would submit that this show defies any and all comparisons to any other work before it.
Awesome show! Great writing! Stupendous acting and directing! What else could you ask for?!! Keep it up.
I've been a fan since first season. I'm tellimg all my friends.I love the complexity of this character. I've been a fan of B.C. since Malcom. Great to see you in yet another well written role. Great character chemistry and acting all around. Can not wait till next episode.
I hate how Vince an the crew capture us and won't let go and then leave us hanging till the next episode.
Whatever this show is cooking I'm hooked, you guys have me addicted to your show!
this show is freaking awesome
Walt and Jesse have gotten into A LOT of trouble in a relatively short time period. Presumably this is because Walt is fast-tracking the whole thing with his 2 pounds, no, now 4 pounds commitment. I guess Walt and Jesse will do *something* about Tuco since we've seen a teaser about Walt and Badger (of all idiots) getting into an old woman's garage because she bought a vacuum where Walt was hiding money.
But as the Wicked Witch said, "It's how that bothers me. These things must be handled delicately." ;-)
When is yr 1,,ep. 5 - 6 - 7 going to air,,??
WOW ! This show is flat out AWESOME ! Thanks to all the folks responsible for putting together such a riviting drama ! Please keep up the GREAT work !!!!
I'll get around to more detailed thoughts in a couple days but I've got a rattle off a few "pop, pop, pop" right now.
~Whats up with the start scene? I expected it to be forshadowing of the end of the ep but now I'm wondering if its for the end of the season.
~Love the black n white
~Fabulous direction and stunning photography.
~Jesse can't open the gun BECAUSE HE WASN'T A REAL CRIMINAL TO YOU CAME ALONG, WALT.
~I usually hate pigs but I find piggy Hank oddly endearing. The hug was priceless.
~John Shiban? SERIOUSLY?! X Files old home week ;o)
~Love Hank and Marie's house. I want to see ABQ more and more all time time.
~I so knew Hank was aware of Maries problem.
~The end left my heart in my throat and I'd like TPTB to know its cruel to leave us like that.
~I think Hanks right and maybe Gonzo was an accident trying to take care of the non christian burial.
Guess thats enough for now.
Hope you all loved it as much as I did. Big long winded character by character ep thoughts ( those who know me know I roll on that front) coming on Wed sometime.
I loved Season 1 of this show, and was excited for Season 2 (a long wait!)
Unfortunately I think the first episode last night was pretty lame. The plot went in the one direction I was hoping it wouldn't go. There is so much more that is interesting and original about this series - why take it into the realm of bad guy tortures main characters? So predictable, and I just don't care. I'll give it one more shot next week, but please, c'mon....
Billy
Just a few thoughts :
--The plot has really heated up fast. It's painful to watch Walt barely holding it together that nut is gonna crack luckily he still knows how to cook up some ricin
--Skyler's tirade may have been a bit over cooked but Hank's reaction (a hesitant arm's length hug) was funny as hell.
-- the opening sequenceof the submerged crispy one eyed teddy bear was very creepy
Bill from Inland Empire man, you are in the minority here. Season 2 E 1 was fantastic. My only complaint is that neither one of my providers (FIOS and DirecTV) carry AMC HD. The video was all washed out and of poor quality, which is to be expected of an SD channel when you are used to watching just about everything in HD.
Anyway, put some faith in the show and let everything fall into place. Giving it one more chance next week and then giving up isn't the right attitude. Everything will come together as the season moves forward. I recommend you watch all the cool stuff on the AMC Breaking Bad website. The season looks like it is going to be fantastic.
I just have two questions about the episode last night. The symbolism of the bunny. What does that mean? I think it has something to do with the end of the season. That bunny unfortunately looks like it could belong to Walt's unborn daughter. It is obviously burned, but only on one half, which indicates a possible bomb? It looks like there is calm and the house is still standing when that thing is floating around in the pool. The worst thing for Walt would be to have his family hurt. He obviously doesn't worry too much about what happens to him, but he wants his family safe (of course). Hopefully, if a bomb goes off at the end of the season, Walt's wife and daughter won't be home when the bunny is blown into the pool. I really think this is symbolic of things to come. What is everybody's opinion on that opening?
My other question is what is up with Walt practically raping his mud faced wife? Is it stress? Is it all those drugs he is taking for his cancer? Is he subconsciously trying to maintain some sense of control of his life? I mean, I've been spontaneous with my wife but never pushed her beyond the "not right now." He practically was about to rape her. What do you suppose the meaning of this is?
I'm watching the show again right now, seeing if I can pick up on anything I missed last night.
Great show!
Ron in PA-
All shows have aired on the network many times. You should buy the DVD set though, it is fantastic. I watched all the shows at least once last year when they were on and I sat here last Sunday watching the whole season and the extra content just in time for season 2. It was a great refresher for a great show.
As long as they keep up the good work with this show, I'll be pulling the seasons off the shelf from time to time and watching them over and over again over the course of my life. This really is a good show and to me, worth buying on DVD. It isn't a watch once and forget about it like so many movies/shows these days. This is a keeper. Great stuff.
This is the best series on television right now. I started with the marathon on saturday and now it is in the dvr forever. I can't wait for the next episode. We all know drugs are bad i'm glad they aren't preaching. BC is amazing! Who knew malcom's dad could be so intense? He is an ordinary guy that is in an extrordinary stuation. Keep up the good work, i can't wait till next sunday.
skottey, Well, I'm usually in the minority, but I really don't see the point of wasting my time with a show that's heading in a very typical direction. I thought this was going to be something new, and it isn't. The best show on TV right now is Life - Breaking Bad is going to have to come up with something a lot more original than bad drug dealer kidnaps Walt and Jesse to keep my interest. Like the opening black and white sequence, now that was interesting....
Billy
I'm so totaly enthused with this series!
As a man who walked that route of METH HELL for many years, I personaly had the opportunity to witness the INSANITY of the crowd, the attitudes of Dean - LEO - (DADDY was a Cop)...
And yet the ONLY time I have yet even came close to feeling a "trigger" for the "old days" and a shudder of that "chill" was in season 1 when "Tuco" did the first line of the WALT batch... His, "BOOOOYAH" nearly made me want to hear the clickity clickity clickty clack of a razor blade on a mirror!
Surreal drama for sure - but DEAD BANG on SPOT.
Aaron - Dude - I dunno where you found your "MOTIVATION" for the part - but you kinda scare me a tiche dawg.
This loox as if it will be a wonderful season!
(??? What's up with RJ ? R we having "issues" J, I dang sure hope you'll be returning SOON ???)
BRAVO!
Oh Dear GAWD! I'm HOOKED AGAIN!

Billy-
Maybe the show isn't for you. I don't watch a lot of series, but am more of a movie watcher. It seem like the best series always get prematurely canceled. I really enjoyed HBO's Carinvale, but it was trashed and thrown away with season 2. CBS' Jericho was great as well, but that too was canceled prematurely and given a trashy ending. I am sick of getting into shows and then having them canceled on me. I usually play it safe with movies. But there are some series I watch and I stumbled across Breaking Bad last year and love it. I am glad it was renewed and hopefully it will go on as long as it can and be given a proper ending. But again, this show may not be for you. I meant that you are in the minority in that most who watch it are hooked. I don't feel like this show lacks originality at all. Maybe it is because I don't watch a lot of series on TV. Maybe this has been done before. But for me, it is a new, fresh idea and direction. The content on the website describes season two as much darker but more humor thrown in there. Little stuff like Hank asking Walt's wife, "want me to take a look at that utility closet?" after her breakdown. That was funny in a dark twisted way. I don't know, I just really like this show. It certainly left us hanging for next week. Will Walt kill that nutjob? Will they escape? What will happen next? I can't wait for the next show. I like the direction they are heading.
I effin loved the season premiere!
Starting with the exceptional b/w opening, how amazing and creative was that?! I thought this was probably the ending of the episode, too. But now I guess it's the ending of the season, and frankly I also think it means something bad has happened to Walt and/or his family. But what? This is SO keeping me on the edge of my seat, I can't tell you how brilliant I think it was.
I also admire that every character's gotten his or her place in the story, we all see them developing, and are therefore able to really care about them, be that in a positive or a negative way. The scene where Walt comes on to Skyler is at the same time shocking and fascinating. I believe Walt doesn't know where his head is, he just tried to somehow gain control, even though that was a weird way. Skyler's clearly getting more and more suspicious, and apparently we get to see a lot more about that in the next episode..
Enough about that, there's just too much to say, I wouldn't be able to stop until tomorrow.
I can't wait to see what's going to happen with Tuco, I have a feeling it'll become a classic television moment, people will remember for a long time.
AMC has quietly become the channel with the best and most original series on air!
I was a bit disappointed with this opener as opposed to last years season one opener. Last years was so fast and action packed it kept you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end. This issue seemed to bog down more than several times. Since I had recommended the series to several friends who had never seen it before - I wish they had taken 5-10 minutes to re-cap last years series and/or at least introduce the primary characters as to there relevance to the series. Still one my favorite series on T.V. and one of the few that I watch. Any one else feel the same about the opener ??
Even though it was a bit slow, I still dug last night's premiere. It actually reminded me a lot of horror movies--the long shots down the hallway, the making of a mysterious poison, and then when you-know-who emerges from the backseat like some kind of insane zombie. They got some really great tension going--especially when Walt walks through his house with the gun. And finally Skyler breaks down! She's previously been so insufferably cool.
OK...maybe someone can help. Remember midway through the episode when Marie Schrader (the shoplifting sister) was in the kitchen opening the packets of sugar substitute into a mug and then neatly folding the little yellow packets afterward? What was THAT all about? The camera was focusing on it, yet it seemed that there was some 'higher meaning' to what we were seeing. God knows I couldn't discern that 'higher meaning.' Can anyone else?
I have to disagree with the comments about the end of the episode being dissapointing. i dont think the ending should be viewed as a cliche. Yes, it was predictable, i saw it coming. But, what made it so poignant was the visible struggle on Walt's face. Obviously you're going to get in the car if a gun-wielding sociopath tells you so, but what about Skyler? I think for Walt, this is what is most painful. The chance of him ruining his family in order to protect and provide for them is very real. By getting in the car Walter saves his family but he loses them at the same time. Moments prior to being kidnapped Walter and Skyler were in a pivotal moment. I think seeing Walter going through the thought progression of " if I go I die, but save my family." is what makes the ending so impactful. this IS the best show on t.v. BC's Emmy is well deserved
This IS the best show on TV. I have been anticipating the start of Season 2 for what seems like forever ... I am literally on the edge of my seat for the entire hour of every episode. (Except for the family meeting passing the pillow in season 1 - that just made me laugh). Obviously, the star of the show is not going to die - so I cannot wait to find out how he explains the gun and money left in the diaper box in the nursery.
Maybe I am thinking way too far ahead, but I certainly hope Walt goes into remission or something, because I want this show to continue for a long time. It's been much too long since I've gotten "hooked" on a show. THANK YOU AMC!!!!!
I'm trying to put the best spin I can on these events, so bear with me.
1) RE the near rape scene, if you look at Walt's behavior immediately preceding, you can see that he's very emotionally fragile. Right or wrong, this is his attempt at comfort. I mentioned "Midnight Express" earlier? There is a very similar, graphic scene in that movie (except it's worse!) and I have never forgotten how it made me feel.
2) When I was re-watching the first season episodes on Friday, I noticed for the first time that Walt had written on his list of reasons to not kill Krazy-8, "post-traumatic stress". I think he's got it...
ChrisNH> There are all kinds of "red herrings" in this series/show! That's the thing, you don't really know what is important unless/until it is developed. I thought the point of Marie's little ritual was so we would focus on the slogan on her water bottle: We can see right through you. And it could mean we can see through Marie or Hank or just about anybody.
Oh Yeah - Chris, I, too, wondered about the obsessive way Marie handled her Splenda. Her and Hank's troubled marriage was a surprise to me, I dont really remember there being any turmoil between them in season 1. I foresee Marie playing a much bigger role in season 2.
Someone mentioned Walt nearly raping his wife. This happened when he came home from seeing a man beat to death. If you remember in the beginning of season 1, Walt came home and had pretty intense sex with Skylar after he killed the guy in the RV or after he strangled the guy they had captured in the basement. But obviously these brushes with death spark intensity in Walt.
This episode was very good. Although I must say it was quiet and slow moving. Everything comes crashing down at the end. But overall it was great. Pumped for next Sunday!! How are they going to get away (kill) from Tuco? Can't wait!!!
I cannot believe the number of people calling this episode "slow moving." Is this what we as society have evolved into? Everything has to be one intense moment after another, topping the last intense moment. I liked the pace of the show last night. It moved along nicely and has me anticipating next week's show. My suggestion for anybody that finds this to be too slow moving is to get a DVR and record and save the entire season, wait until all 13 episodes are rolled out, and then boom boom boom, watch them all right in a row so it all comes together for you.You are the type of people that will drop off after a few shows and will totally miss whatever is building up. I'll admit, I hate waiting a week after an excellent show and cliffhanger like last night. I would love to have seen what happens next, right away. But I will watch week after week and savor the show. I like it. Best drama on TV right now, it is.
Once again the writers must be commended for this episode; so well done.
While Walt's wife is going ballistic over her "bitch sister" and eventually breaks down crying, the DEA guy is trying to comfort her. But considering the
stage of her pregnancy, he doesn't want to get too close and is completely befuddled for such a "macho" guy, and kind of pats her back from a distance. I laughed so hard, I had to rewind, because I missed the next scene.
Hard to believe; this is television. Almost every episode could be an Oscar winning movie in it's own right.
It's all been said before but bravo to the entire crew. Superb!
To Chris nh-Re: The Splenda thing, shows she's an
compulsive/obsessive. Probably part of the reason she's a shoplifter. She's not a thief of need, they have money. It's a power thing, excitement, can she get away with it?, the adventure. But she's also compulsive, so she didn't just steal something practical, she took a tierra. Again, it's a power thing. Look at what "I" gave you.Neat and tidy
with the packages is obsessive. Not to mention the fact of about 6-8 of them in one cup of coffee.
The DP on this show is great. Movie quality workmanship.
I swear, if I was Walt, I don't know who I'd be more upset with: the psycho dealer or the nagging wife?!? Is she unreal or what?
Glad the show is back. My thoughts on the episode mostly pertain to Tuco. I gotta tell you his character is dead spot on. Im almost positive they used my friend (former dealer) Elmo as the inspiration for the role. Elmo would go crazy and beat the shit out of people that worked for him too. Accuse them of stealing and so forth. Tuco brings back some bad memories..LOL. The only thing I don't think is realistic about him is that he just snorts whatever is offered to him without question. No dealer in his right mind and even one as psychotic as Tuco would ever do that.
Other than that small flaw...this show is awesome....
RCH2288,
You seem to know the lifestyle pretty well. I often wondered how people that run/ran with this crowd and use and buy/sell such drugs would respond to the show. According to the behind the scenes footage on the website, they went out of their way to design the meth lab look and feel to match up to a real lab and researched the type of person. You have confirmed that somebody from this world does in fact see Breaking Bad as realistic. That makes the show that much better. Thank you.
Unforgiven, Sky has always come across as a clueless, controlling shrew as far as I'm concerned. She was finally given a moment as a sympathetic character in Ep. 1 when she told off Hank. Her rant pointing out her problems compared to his seemed to bounce off that hard head, though. I have a good friend whose brother-in-law is like him (not in appearance), but sort of a loud, braying, jackass sort.
As for Walt, man . . . what a way to spend the last months of your life, always looking over your shoulder (or out the window), gripped by paranoia and justified terror. He seems so much more concerned about his family than they've been about him. Sky just expects robotic behavior--yes, you'll have treatment, where have you been, yes, you should take Elliott's money, etc., etc. I'm really eager to learn the backstory on this couple because obviously, something went off-track and sent Walt, a protein x-ray crystalographer (my roommate's brother is one--very rare field), into teaching. And to any teachers here, please do NOT take offense. We need you desperately. It just doesn't seem that high school science was part of his original plan.
Possibilities: Tuco forms an alliance with Walt and Jesse. Did Walt still have the revolver in his belt? will Tuco fall for the ricin-laced meth?
Did I understand correctly that Season 2 has a whole lot more episodes than Season 1 did? And if Walt's medical condition is terminal and he's this 'far along,' can the show plausibly go beyond this season if some sort of medical 'divine intervention' doesn't occur?
Hearty applause for AMC is striking gold with their 'original programming' in the form of this show and 'Mad Men.'
ChrisNH-
I can see the show going on beyond this season because a week of realtime and a week of what is happening on the show are two different things. A year has past in our world, yet only days or weeks have passed during the whole course of events in this show since he found out he had cancer. They also said on the outside (before he found the best doctors) that on the outside he had a few years to live at most. Well, the show could run for ten seasons and only weeks or a couple months could pass in show time. Think 24, the whole season takes place in 24 hours, yet it is spread across 24 weeks on your TV. For some shows, like The Simpsons, time stands pretty much still too. Just don't look at it like it is happening as we go along in time. It is fictionally something maybe that has already happened over the course of say a six month stretch and they are now taking say four seasons of episodes to tell the story. Nobody expects the time line to match up to ours. Usually they don't.
One thing I learned last year was to trust that all the pieces would come together eventually. I'm not a big TV series watcher at all, but I happened upon "Breaking Bad" last year and I'm definitely hooked.
The confidence I have in everybody (actors, writers, directors, et al) doesn't stop me from trying to guess (and sometimes second-guess) what happens next, but it's a very comfortable feeling. I don't have any fear they'll jump the shark.
BOOYAH!! I love this show!! MAn I think Walt snorted some shit so he could stay awake and be sure that whoever was in the truck if they tried to come back to kill him or his family he would be ready. You would have to be really spun to jump the way he did when that phone rings.Thats why I be turnin ringer off LOL
Well-------------we waited a year, and BB did not let me down. With out a doubt Breaking Bad will be one of the classic drama's of all time. A drama like this has to have some time to flesh out the characters, to get to know them better. I look forward to getting to know R.J & Jesse better. For that to happen it must be more thought provoking rather than bang, bang, bang, you're dead.
Skyler is very self absorbed-----can get on my nerves. Wonder how she is going to handle Walt disappearing almost in front of her eyes.
Jesse I believe will continue to bond to his new father figure Walt, and Walt will continue to seek Jessie's street wisdom, even though it is not hard core ---------------------------YET!
Great Chemistry between Walt & Jesse. When they are on screen together----enjoy their banter very much.
Our boys will take care of Tuco-----maybe not next episode, but soon. Can't wait!!
Skottey.
This show is definitely very realistic when it comes to the drug aspects of it and the seediness of it all. I remember last season watching and was going to begin to doubt the validity of the show when Walt promised 4 Lbs of Meth to Tuco and I yelled at the TV "Where in the hell are they going to be able to get that much Pseudo Ephedrine to make that much meth?" No way would they be able to Smurf that much in a weeks time, and then they go in a different direction and steal the drum of PLP to make the old school Meth which solved the Pseudo issue. Very well done on the writers part to keep it real like that! Bravo!
RCH2288-
That is cool because while average people like myself know Pseudo is required for cooking regular Meth, and we know that it is a pain in the butt to get a box of cold medicine from behind the counter from our own experiences (I just bought allergy meds yesterday and waited while the clerk rain my license against the state database), but most of us wouldn't know how hard it would be to smurf out that much Pseudo. I always figured that the laws put only a minor hindering on the production of this drug, like so many laws that fail to do what they intend to do. So it sounds like putting Pseudo behind the counter in all 50 states (if I am not mistaken) has really hurt manufacturing of the drug? Interesting.
I am surprised that that law actually works. I am a chronic pain sufferer and only recently did they start checking my ID when filling a script of painkiller, but six months ago when I bought cold medicine it was just as difficult as the allergy medicine this time. As if they make it harder to get Pseudo than it is to get Oxycodone or Oxycontin. Reminds me of high school where it was easier to get LSD or cocaine than it was to score a case of beer.
What a twisted world we live in.
This show is great to be so real to life. But I think most of us wouldn't realize without being told on screen that "how are we going to get enough Pseudo for four pounds?" I am pretty street smart but that still would have gone over my head and I suspect most people wouldn't realize how much of a roadblock that really is these days. I know now though from the show and comments like yours.
Gosh I can't wait for Sunday. I am going to go nuts week to week waiting for this show. I feel like I should have just DVR'd it and watched it all at the end. It is too much anticipation for three months, haha. This show is too good.
Skottey,
I've watched it thrice already this week. Sunday night and twice yesterday. Although I'm thinking of DVRing it on Sunday and watching it Monday instead because I find it hard to go to sleep after watching because it does get my heart rate up then I have a hard time waking up on Monday morning for work.
But I have a feeling If I decided to do that then I would lay in bed on Sunday night and wonder what I was missing, get out of bed and go downstairs and watch it and the cycle would continue.
My meth days are well behind me. Mostly used during college to help with studies and am glad I never got hooked. Its been over 10 years now, but watching this show does bring back those memories but not to the point of ever using it again...no sir.
I admire Walt, the family man. He puts it all on the line for the well being of his wife, son, and unborn daughter. Family should come first but this guy has taken it a little too far. He is starting to realize his impact on society now (especially after the beating to death caused by Tuto high on his product). But the important thing to him is that his family is secure. Will that happen? Will he get the $750K he needs for them? A good plot twist would be if somebody close to him (wife or son, sister in law) took up a Meth addiction with his product, unbeknownst to him.
I'm recording Jimmy Kimmel tonight. Bryan Cranston will be promoting the show :)
Thank God for TiVo
It's nice to see the show is getting some recognition.
Alexis - thanks for the conformation. I didn't know if it was just me or what. I agree, there has to be some background between those two that we haven't been privy to yet. You may have just given the writers a new episode down the road.
Dean (Not Norris) - The gun's in the box with the money. The ricin-laced meth ... maybe *grin*
I haven't read the entire thread, but I just want to congratulate AMC, Cranston and the gang on finding a way to get this show back on for a second season. I hate most TV shows, but Breaking Bad gives me faith in the format. Vince Gilligan has a winner here. I appreciate the free offering of the show online at the AMC site, and the minisodes to catch up on Episode 1. Very generous of them. The writers, the actors, all avoid the easy cliches of TV drama, while still stirring in just enough of that soap-opera leisurely paced hook-style to rope you in good. It's never likely to have a HUGE audience, but I support this show wholeheartedly, and talk it up to my friends every chance I get. Great work! I will be checking out AMC's other shows as a result of Breaking Bad, which I've heard equally good things about. Here's to good, quality, intelligent entertainment. Stay true to yourself, don't sell out, and stick with it AMC! You're doing TV proud.

skotty
If you watched the beginning of the show the cop
showed the breakin (using thermite) and commented on the theft of large barrel of p2p (phenylacetone) and methylamine
They are the 2 major precursors and the ORIGINAL method of making methamphetamine as the bikers used to have it made for them
LONG before the trailer park redp/.iodine and pseudo or effy process
NO ephedrine or pseudo is required to make meth
and there are several methodologys to making it
It still is fake in that p2p is not available in the USA anymore anyway
but that was the relevance of that shot--it showed
what TYPE and method of manufacture walt was doing and a 55 gallon drum of p2p would make
at least 200-250 lbs of pure meth --I would guess
and only available in countrys like poland and some eastern block ones
Just read all the comments about ep. 1,season2.
We just love the show.
All the characters,the story,the idea.

I have watched all shows multiple times with great detail. If you read my back and forth with the other guy you'd see that I was referring to meth cooking with pseudo as people commonly think of it now days. Paying attention to real world detail, they realized that nobody would be able to get enough pseudo so he got that other stuff, which you are saying is not available in the US. Most viewers would not know that he'd be unable to get that stuff either. I think they covered the bases pretty well. Yes, I did catch Hank laughing at them saying they know the chemistry and have no street smarts, and that he hopes those guys get caught by them (DEA) before the guys on the street stop them. I got all that. I didn't miss anything. If anything I like the show so much I have over-analyzed it and spend too much time trying to figure things out. That is why I am here involved in this thread. Great show.
Absolutley fantastic season opener!! I was on the edge of my seat the entire time! I cannot wait till the next episode, Tuco has totally lost his mind, he is one dangerous individual. Walt and Jessie are in some serious trouble, and i cant wait to see what happens next. this is by far the best show that has been on tv in a long time, most new tv series are just total crap, but this series has raised the bar, and then gone over the top of it!
skooter-

Dudes - get a hit, put on some porn & give the board a break! heheh
I want to make a comment about Tuco snorting Walts meth which isn't very realistic, but I understand the show has time constraints so Im willing to overlook it.
As many people know or for those who do not know, You can snort, it smoke it or Inject it. I myself was a snorter. First off when Tuco does snort it, it is barely crushed meaning he is taking in giant rocks so that is very unbelievable that he would react the way he does..."Tight!, Tight!,Tight!"
Secondly he would be puking his guts out if he were to get some of those rocks up his nose as they eventually would start to disolve and be swallowed. The meth drip and taste in your throat is god awful, which is why you want it chopped up into a fine powder with as little chunks as possible.
And if it was any good his eyes would be tearing up and watering like someone carved raw onions underneath his face for 10 minutes to get that kind of reaction. I used to call this the "Two Eye Cry"
The high you get from snorting it isn't as sudden as smoking it or injecting it.Snorting it doesn't hit you that fast. It takes a couple of minutes for the high to come over you. So for Tuco to say that the stuff is primo so quickly is a little off base.
Again not complaining just trying to give a realistic viewpoint....
i aint gonna give anything away, but episode 2 is by far the best episode of the series.period, point blank,no discussions about it.episode 3 is also good but not as strong.cant wait for the new storylines to begin on episode 4.this is by far the best show on televison right now......

how do you know this? are you a tv insider? are you with the media and fortunate enough to get previews of this stuff so you can write reviews for a newspaper or something? just curious? a little background please.
well wouldnt you like to know. naw i aint no tv insider but i've seen it and its excellent.like i said episode 2 is the best of the series.and episode 3 ties up the lose end's from episode 2. so expect new storyline's and developments starting with episode 4.

Way back in the olden days, I knew a guy (now long dead) who was what we then called a speed freak. It was his drug of choice, although he'd do just about anything and plenty of it. (The US Army in its grand wisdom sent this kid to Vietnam where he became a regular heroine junkie--low, low, low prices). And he was a mainliner.
I've wondered, though, what the difference is/was between the stuff he did and what is now called meth. I learned he was 43 when he died, and frankly I was surprised he lived that long.
In Oregon, you can't get OTC meds of any kind with pseudo without a doctor's Rx. It's kind of a hassle if you've got bad allergies, but it's cut W-A-Y down on the number of cookers around here, and I appreciate it.
thats crazy because where i live in south florida. you can get pseudo over the counter, and they dont ask for i.d or anything. but i guess its because south florida doesnt mess with meth. ive lived here all my life, and ive only known 1 kid that has ever done that/sell it. we get coke over here so i guess thats why...

I wrote a longer response but it somehow signed me out so I'll make it brief rather than retyping the whole thing.....
I live in Florida too and they run my ID whenever I buy anything with Pseudo in it from behind the counter. The stuff out on the floor like Contact Cold has been reformulated without Pseudo but doesn't work as well.
This reminds me of buying lotto at Publix and getting carded with a cart full of groceries, including beer on the bottom (which I didn't get carded for) and my children in tow. The oldest is 12. If they think I am possibly not old enough to buy lotto that would make me 17, which would mean I was 5 when I conceived my 12 year old. I am 33. By any stretch I don't look under 18 and like I said, I wasn't even carded for beer and wine on the same trip. Things are twisted in Florida.
I find it more of a hassle buying allergy medication than the "narcotics" I buy for my chronic pain at the same store.
This is a rare gem in the mix of absolute garbage on television. I have been waiting for months for season 2 to begin. The opening episode was good (not fantastic) but certainly Gilligan keeps us on the edge. I did not like the wife/forcible rape seen in the kitchen. That is way out of place and I simply don't want to see the characters I like performing hideous horrible acts of violence. It was disturbing. However, looks like the wife is going to get informed soon. I expect she'll find the money (and gun) in the diaper box and get the full story. That will be interesting how it plays. Long term, I see the character beating cancer and becoming a major drug distributor in the ALQ metro area and beyond. The longer term story is slow but many of the scenes sizzle with intensity and satisfaction. Go Gilligan Go.
well i stay in broward county . i cant speak for central or northern florida. i assume the meth problem upthere might be worse then it is down here. cause there really is no meth around. and if there was it would be in secluded area's of south florida like the everglades or south miami dade county.such as homestead ,florida city all the way down to monroe county.no one round here is into that. make sure you check out episode 2, thats 1 you dont wanna miss...........

your not even close episode 2 and 3 will blow your mind. especially episode 2. just wait for the twist that comes.
in the beginning of episode 2. pay close attention to jesse's car it will be hopping up and down, thats a clue of things to come.
i eventually think walt will beat the cancer, but if u think u know whats coming next. the writing team will throw you a 180 and u wont know what hit u.
Dean, if I'm not mistaken, I believe walt plopped the revolver in the cardboard box with the cash..
Residing in OREGON here too, yes - cold meds are tougher to get - helping to slow down mom n pop ops, but the market is as wide open as ever - and expanding daily; just opens it up for the cartels is all.
We truly have no "effective" programs that shut this crap down, and one program here in Central OR to help the FAMILIES is about to be debated towrds a funding cut - absolutely, absurdly astounding!
"get a hit and grab the porno"...
HA! Too rich, that slays me !
i placed a post under "HANKS Blog" on a theory for a cliffhanger - but - as someone mentioned - maybe I'm "overposting"... or is there another "scooter" something here, so - I'll just leave that for intrigue (if anyone cares)... Informing Sky of the true "weight of the soul"...
great show - great conversations... good on everyone!
goodnight...

ooops, nope.. Jesse's blog... darn...maybe I'll take u up on the porno afterall!
I love this show, I think its one of the most interesting, best written and acted shows ever on t.v.. I think the very first scene of this episode was very reminiscent of a David Lynch movie, particularly Blue Velvet. I love the show, but I was a little disappointed that there wasn't much humor in this episode. Also, I was disappointed that Walt doesn't come out on top in this episode. I will comment on Tuco's snorting. I don't know how fine the meth he snorted was, but I have snorted a lot of meth at a time and not experienced any of the affects that were described above. You definitely get far more of a rush smoking and especially shooting up any drug including meth.
The New season started out with a bang. I cannot believe how incredibly suspenseful it was it had me sitting on the edge of my seat the whole time. Keep up the great work. GREATEST SHOW OF ALL TIME
NHBigO -RE: Blue Velvet/David Lynch/Dennis Hopper --yes, Yes, YES -- that was such a cool movie! Thanks, I'll have to check that one out again.
To some of the others of you; this is just a show, not a documentary. Maybe you're just trying to show your street creds - whatever. Well hell - I got arm scars, Hep C ... Just let it go. It's just a show!
Oh yeah - I watched the (marathon) first season, and now have to wait for each Sunday -- but thank gawd SouthPark has a new season on Wednesdays!!!
Thanks AMC,
You have one of the finest show on TV right now.
You have done a excellent job of showing how things can be out here in NM, certainly Abq.
The meth wars have been going on out here for a long time. DEA runs them away, they go to another state, then they are back.
Season Opener was excellent, what a hook at the end. So many loose ends for Walt & Jesse.. my oh my what's mama going to think when she find that box of diapers... Walt robbed a bank? :-)
So my take is that Tuco got Walt & Jesse, not to kill them but for them to help him, even though he took them at gunpoint.
After all Walt is smart, Tuco's main bodyguard didn't show up as he died at the junkyard, Tuco probably thinks the competion took him out and
he can't trust any of his homeboys.
Just a thought... eagerly waiting for the next show, to see if I'm right.... :-)
Again... great job AMC !!.

she doesnt find the box. ive seen the next 2 episode's and believe me you wont guess what's coming up next. episode 2 is the best of the whole series not just this season. and episode 3 ties up the lose ends from episode 2.
expect new story lines to start at episode 4.
oh, pay close attention to jesse's car at the beginning of episode 2, it i'll give you clues on whats 2 come........
peace

that's just not right ... what do you want to go and be a spoiler for :-)
I saw the mention of the car in a earlier thread..
How did you get to see the upcoming shows ?
I do think the DEA guy.. Hank's crib would be a little out of his price range... from the looks of the location... he'd already have to be on the take.
Looks to be off La Luz Trail which would put it in the multi- million dollar range easy.
just a comment from someone from around there ;-)
zia
cause i got connections. and lets just say it's obvious that some1 working with amc, got greedy and really needed some money
Cool Nicklez,
Florida?.... I lived over in St. Pete for awhile.
Too flat for me, I need the mountains so I can keep my bearings ;-) But I did like the climate, too darn dry out here.
You ever been out here to Breaking Bad country ?
I really didn't catch up on the series until about 6 months ago, then got caught up on all the episodes. I wasn't even out here then, was in the midwest, but the scenery just pulled me in, I'd see something and know exactly where it was. NM is like that very distinctive and visual.
It's becoming sort of a new film mecca, they call it ......
TamaleWood ...lol .. the term bugs a number of people but I think it's a great name myself.
In this show they seem to be very up on the way things are here and with their technical expertise also.
I'm up north , not in Abq. I do go down there, but to tell you the truth I stay away also. I see enough of the Mexican mafia tooling around in their decked out Escalate being driven by some mid 20's year old to know what it about. This is a pretty poor state, big gap btwn the haves and have nots. Doesn't take a rocket scientist or a chemist to figure it out.
In the first season, when they were cooking in the motorhome, that is so proper for this area. There are so many places that aren't very far off the beaten path that it made too much sense, that could really happen and more than likely has happened. People out here don't go poking around, they leave well enough alone.
guess I get to wait out the next 48 hours and see what happens.... cheers
wow... so, are you sayin that you have an associate at AMC in a position of JUICE who allowed you the pre presentation viewing of the series, because they were in an economic pinch?
Damn - how much did you have to plow out?
Hmmmmm..
I guess the world of GLAMOUR isn't any different in the day of the economy crunch, that's interestingly off topic, not bitchin' just intriegued.
Ahwell.. Hoping if I ever get the chance to rub an elbow it's with the JUICE guy who wasn't so in need of money.
what is a juice guy
Juice... c'mon!
POWER, in the know, a decision maker, CONTROL, someone who had the "stuff" to get you the primo... Or am I misunderstanding the concept here?
No worrries, I wasn't harshin on you, not in the least, was just dreaming about what it would be like to have an IN to actualy get a point across, the ol' foot in the door thing...
Sorry for the public display, I searched for a way to message privately and then tried to find a way to delete.
I'll leave it at:
It's apparent you run with an much INNER circle that I... Kudos!
just when i thought Damages was the most unpredictable show on TV Breaking Bad trumped my csi:miami/vegas/ny addiction, with a tarantino feel this series feels more like 1 huge movie and i love everything about it. Intriguing, mind altering/blowing/f**ing show i stumbled onto the series 3 weeks before the new season and watched the first episode to see what it was all about ended up staying up all night watched 7 episodes back to back, and i agree with some folks after watching s2 ep1 at the end when the 3 of them leave in the car all i could think was "Already?? jeez the season just started" which reminds me and everyone of the intensity of the series. One thing i have to point out from season 1 the guy with the BMW that wouldn't stop talking is from the show "Worst Week" great analogy but i cannot see him playing this role after so much bad luck in his prior but was glad to see him anyhow, and does every breaking bad episode havee to end with an even bigger cliffhanger?? i can only chew 10 nails lol
oh 1 more thing for the people asking about Walt almost raping Skyler remember when they had sex in the car next to the police car and she asked "why was it so good?" and he responded "because it was illegal" that should answer your question i guess since he was always a nerd he feels powerful and uninhibited and also he usually does that after somebody dies and him knowing he'll die soon just makes him want to have the best sex ever before it happens, anyways i wish they could squeeze a few seasons before he dies or i hope he gets cured lol
i would be very pleased if hank (the dea agent) hooked up with skyler and walt had a little something with hank's wife the personalities match more this way
so you reckon the pink stuffed animal in walt and skyler's home had a good trip, hahahaha???? i bet he would rather have stayed home!!!!! hmmmnnnnn
a boeing 737....hmmmnnnn nice aircraft huh???
On the blog that announces the rerun schedule, I mentioned that it should be accompanied by Eric Clapton's song, "After Midnight." "Breaking Bad" has always had kind of an "after midnight" vibe, and watching the episodes for a second time at that sort of subversive time of night, offers some unique pleasures. The viewer gets a chance to look at things from a new perspective, pick up on things we hadn't noticed the first time around. As one of the lines in "After Midnight" goes, "We're gonna find out what it is all about."
A couple of things I noticed last night -
Somebody (Linda 555, I think) had asked which episodes were directed by Bryan Cranston, and that was the case with this first episode of Season 2.
Secondly, we'd talked about the famous green face cream near-sex scene, and I'd mentioned that Walt was being "rough and brutish." Seeing it again, it was more like "needy and feral."
And thirdly, seeing an episode for a second time gives one a chance to really appreciate the acting. The whole cast is uniformly amazing, but especially the Bryan Cranston/Aaron Paul combo, which is more than the sum of its parts. Those guys absolutely bring out the best in each other.
I'm confused.. I thought last season Skyler had the baby. How come in the first episode of the second season she is still pregnent? Maybe I missed something. Can someone help?
Maybe the new season hasn't started yet and it was a rerun?? I'm talkiing about the episode that aired 8/19. Was that a rerun and if so when does the new season begin?
imbarbra6, we won't get Season 3 for awhile, but meanwhile we are launched on the adventure of savoring Season 2, one episode per week, Sunday nights...after midnight.
Cue Clapton!
rockmama - thank you, thank you. Do you happen to know when season 3 is scheduled to start?
